Sacred Reviews: Dog Herds Sheep

Introduction

I decided to take a look at "Dog Herds Sheep" in order to take a short break from the daily grind that comes from working on half dozen RPGs at the same time. Sadly, this game barely even qualifies as a break considering you can beat the entire game in under five minutes. That being said, I suppose I should try to dig into the meaty details concerning Mireia's first completed project.

Story

You play as a nameless dog whose job is to move sheep from one enclosed area to another enclosed area. Seriously, why would you need to herd sheep contained within a fence already? Are you moving the sheep to market? Is this part of some sort of sheep herding competition? If it is part of a herding competition, then where's Babe? After all, he is the world's foremost expert on sheep herding.

At any rate, I will admit that I enjoy watching the dog getting thanked for his efforts. Even if I don't really understand why he/she is herding the sheep from one area to another.

Gameplay

A simple puzzle game about pushing around furry blocks into an enclosed area. As such, I really don't have a lot to say about this aspect of the game. After all, there isn't all that much you can say about pushing blocks from one point on the map to another in order to make it interesting. Though, I suppose I should thank the developer for having enough foresight to include an object for resetting the level if you manage to screw it up. After all, I've run into my fair share of games that forgot to include such a device.

Graphics & Music

As far as I can tell all of the music and graphical assets used in this game are from various RTPs. As such, there isn't anything that really stands out in a positive or negative light. Outside of the usual complaint about this game lacking a unique identity.

Bugs

This dog is obviously Jesus in disguise!

As you can see from the image above, it's possible to walk on water in the first map and then use that mapping error to get on top of the fence. Though, I imagine you can also get on top of the fence from the area you can disembark from as well.

Conclusion

"Dog Herds Sheep" is a such a short game, that you'll miss it if you blink. As such, I really can't recommend this game. After all, it lacks the length and challenge of a good puzzle game. In fact, if you really want to test your skills when it comes to solving block puzzles. Then, I'd suggest you check out "KiYoKi" by dandorf.

The Jesus-dog bug would almost be hilarious enough to keep if it weren't such a big one. I should probably take care of it before I go to bed, because I'll probably forget again if I don't start on it.

Anyway, sorry it wasn't a very enjoyable experience, but I do appreciate the time taken to review and stream. And Babe is not here because he exists in a normal world where Border Collies are the ones who do the herding and not this bizarro one where it's the job of labs.

It's not like it's game breaking. And, I've run across far worse bugs in other games.

this game is adorable

It does have that going for it.
