No I am not going to finish that game on time, Yes I am taking this game seriously

It is with great pleasure that I would like to announce that this game will not be finished on time for the fairy tale event.

Yes you read right, "with great pleasure", why is that?

Well for a few reasons, the main one being that it removes my need to rush making this game. I originally planned to just make a pretty looking but rather quick game for the event. Unexpectedly, this game has suddenly become a lot more important to me than I had originally intended.

Now don't get me wrong, I am not turning this into a 40+ hours open world RPG. I am still aiming at making a 30-50 minutes horror experience, but making custom graphical assets as well as custom musical assets has proved a little more challenging than I thought... if I want to maintain a certain level of quality acceptable to myself.

A lot of the game is done! I've finished the combat system (oof, I won't say more but let's just say it's a surprisingly fluid action-lite oriented on struggling and running away), part of the stealth system, a bunch of nice scripts that I had to write to make development easier, almost all my charsets (some animations left to do, though not many, the worst is behind), some music...

...but a lot is also not done! Mostly have to do a lot of tilesets (thx for the help zDS, hopefully he'll have some more slack while Cope Island is getting tested), some story progression points I am not 100% sure about, and, you know, a lot of actual game making :)

I realized that if I wanted to give this game the seriousness it deserves, a month was not going to do it. I am carefully evaluating and iterating over story decisions, gameplay mechanics, the general experience to make sure this isn't some sort of half-baked poop. I am very careful about what I am making here and very little is an afterthought.

On this topic thanks again to zDS for being my sounding board for ideas and his suggestions. With how much I spam him daily I am honestly surprised he hasn't yet straight up just asked me to go to hell.

I added a bunch of screens to prove that I am indeed making progress and working on this almost every day (and have been since the event started), my ideal release date at this point would probably be later in 2018 or January 2019 at the latest. There are more but here are a few cool screens to hint at some (but not all!) of the mechanics implemented thus far:

can you go to hell
The problem is that coming from you it's not out of character.
It doesn't provide that sweet thrill I seek.
