Lord Zadigan has summoned the dreaded Tower of Venaitura from the depths of the Dark World of Radunga and is using it to spread his evil influence across the the land! He has dispatched his finest combatants, the Six Purveyors of Doom, to retrieve the only six artifacts capable of stopping him.

Summon four Champions from the Realm of Heroes and lead them across Tsufana on a journey to thwart the malevolent Lord of Monsterkind. Shall you banish Zadigan and his vile conjurings back to Radunga in a bid to restore peace to the world forevermore? Or will the forces of darkness at long last overthrow the realm of light?

In this harrowing tale of Good VS Evil, you'll assemble a party of Four Champions from Nine available Character Classes and lead them on an arduous journey to topple Lord Zadigan's forces. You'll conquer six distinct lands wrought with monsters and other nefarious ne'er-do-wells as you aim to destroy the Six Purveyors of Doom and end the misery brought in their wake.

As it has always been, my latest project has taken a page from Dragon Quest/Warrior's book and focuses on the journey more so than the destination. Each continent and island you'll visit while traversing the vast world of Tsufana is complete with its own self-contained tale involving one of Zadigan's Purveyors of Doom and a Heavenly Artifact.

"Venaitura" builds heavily upon what I attempted with both "Dragon Fantasy 2" and "Dragon Fantasy: Heroes of Tsufana". Unlike its predecessors however, you're given free reign over how to assemble your party; the "Hero" class is no longer mandatory! There's also slightly more focus on the story and character interaction/dialogue than my other "retro/classic" projects, but the adventure and exploration will (as always) be at the forefront.

Halfway There!

... Well, just about, anyway.

With the completion of the latest area, the sword-shaped continent of Ragna Rock, I've essentially reached the game's halfway point. There are a total of 7 major locations in the game:

Kammlot
Land-Ho
Ragna Rock
Montopia
Insidious Isle
Kingdom of Lispen

and
VENAITURA.

Although Venaitura is one massive dungeon, so I don't really count that towards being a main "area" that the player will be able to explore complete with optional caves, dungeons, towns and villages, etc.

My routine thus far is this:
  • Plan on what will happen in each major location and the key goals and objectives.

  • Create basic outline for area/continent on World Map.

  • Fill in said continent with detail such as mountains, tress, etc. As well as any optional areas I plan on implementing as I go along.

  • Create all major towns and dungeons for the area. Place a Treasure Chest graphic where I want to place future items/equipment.

  • Add important, story-related NPCs.

  • Add non-important NPCs and discoverable items and equipment.

  • Design the monsters for the area. First the World Map encounters, then for each dungeon the player should tackle (in the order I mean for them to complete them, as to maintain a balance in enemy difficulty).

  • Create and fight boss.

  • Create additional dialogue for NPCs reflecting on events that have transpired or the current state of the world.

  • Move on to the next area.

I find this approach keeps me tackling something new in decent intervals so I don't get bored creating a TON of maps, or writing endless NPC dialogue all in one go. It breaks up the monotony, and that's always a big plus!

So I'm getting there. I couldn't have gotten as far as I have without the incredible talents of TruthHarbinger or Mirak! So a BIG shout-out to these amazing people who have directed their talents towards this project. YOU GUYS ROCK! :D

Just a random RMNer once again.

Nice to see you back in the swing of things :P Looks like we're the only two people using RPG Maker 2000 in the year 2019 :P
Maybe this will be my last project using RPG Maker 2000. I wanted to go as retro as possible with this project, and there was nothing quite like the classic RM2K to make that possible! =B
How did I miss this?! If this is even just remotely as good as tsufana or tsufanubra, count me in. The non-generic class roles have my interest piqued too.

more rpgs need battle dogs
I'm hoping this project will absolutely blow Heroes of Tsufana out of the water! Also, if all goes well, we're hoping to go the commercial route. We've already got a pixel artist, so if a composer would just somehow fall into our laps that'd be absolutely fantastic. =O
Hopefully the experience will match (or surpass) how it looks in screenshots! Everything’s coming together quite wonderfully, I have to admit. Got some awesome people on board :D

Everything looks fantastic! In love with the graphics <3
He does have a fantastic style, doesn’t he? It reminds me of a fine blend between the NES and Gabeboy Color.
Yes! And Mirak's working on the background for this Game Page. Still a WIP, thus the, uh, super-dark text. =P

Stand back. Artist at work. I paint with enthusiasm if not with talent.

Dark text is no longer! Long live pretty gamepages!
PLACE HAS GONE ALL SUPER-STYLIN', YO! Mirak, you've done quite an outstanding job at making this page into something truly spectacular. Your efforts are greatly and truly appreciated! =D
I approve this game page so much because damn this game page is sick! I'll check the game out soon.
Mirak definitely has more than one creative bone in his body!

Also, the main download's been updated with some QOL lmprovements (like increased walking speed in towns and dungeons).
I gave up after 3 Huntsmen in the battle. LOL
Oh no?! You're supposed to show those punks that you're the GREATEST HUNTER(S) OF ALL TIME?!?!?
Slightly updated the demo, because apparently I forgot a few things along the way. I think I'll be catching things forever at this rate!
