"This is good...I think." ★★★★★ - hbgames.org (2021)

"Well Seymour, I made it, despite your directions"

I saw a bunch of rpgmaker games based on the Steamed Hams meme,
and was bummed that none of those games used footage from
the show... so I decided to take a shot at it.

"Steamed Hams, but it's an rpgmaker2003 game" is a tech demo that utilizes:
Cherry's new picture-in-battles feature
hedge1's spritesheet creator (revised/updated this method)
and converted videos with methods used from the rpgmaker2003 video thread.

Download now available

If you liked what you played, Be sure to nominate/vote on this tech demo demo during the 2019 Misao awards for:
"Punniest Game Alive"
"Lawsuit Waiting to Happen" Award
"Trippiest Game"
The "How the Hell Did They Do That?" Award
"Best Game Title"

EDIT: Honestly, this game works better as a video, but I thought I'd upload it anyways for those curious.
Please, only play this in window mode/or GDI rendering turned on.

If you wanna see a game that uses the same tech but without the memes.
Please check out SideWinder's Bounty Angel and Psi Dogs: Suns of Antares

For more traditional jrpgs:
please check out IGCM winner LRD's game: Theia - The Crimson Eclipse (Now Avaiable!)

and vistorsfromdream's Shooty and the Catfish (Episode 1 now available)

Also Grimps: a Christmas Puzzle is the Diehard of Arcade Christmas Puzzles!

It's a great time to be an rpgmaker!

Special Thanks to
TheGameArchivist, Darken, anyon175, and Tau. This game was made possible by
using various methods and techniques found in old rpgmaker games from the rpgmakerarchive thread.

When I'm not making silly tech demos, I'm usually playtesting through EASYRPG or archiving them through RMARCHIVE.TK. By contributing to these sites you are ensuring more cool games like this one can be made in the future. So, please check it out RMARCHIVE.TK and EASYRPG.org when you have the chance.

Steamed Hams but it's SilverGunner?

Special thanks to business snek illy for bringing this to my attention.

I don't normally post stuff like this, cause i'm not much of a social media mongel, I have no idea how this works.
This actually happened earlier this year, but I'm posting it now so it won't fade into google search result obscurity.
I've been silvegunner'd:

Special Thanks to Luineny/Lu9. It's actually their work.

Back in 2018 when the Steamed Hams meme was in full swing. I was looking over a bunch of steamed ham vids. and I stumbled upon this midi they created. It was brilliant. You got this really great midi track that perfectly encapsulates the Skinner & Superintendent theme song in all it's sweet early 2000-ish internet rm2k3 soundtrack glory. But after watching a bunch of rpgmaker steamed ham rpgmaker games on youtube, it made me kind of angry no one was using it? Like, no one was using this in an rpgmaker game, when it should be in an rpgmaker game. How could you not use it? it's perfect! So, like a lot of the stuff that's in SH I decided to steal it/include it.

please check out Lu9's youtube channel and give them..."props"?
look esby, I'm sorry, I don't know what the kids do these days. I'm not "cool" anymore.

But seriously, this was great. Kind of bummed they took down their midi music site cause there was a lot of great stuff on there.
Anyone still creating midi music in 2018 is probably at the top of their craft. No joke.

Thank you Lu9, you're a cool guy! ♥

This is a million dollar comment. I could make 200 games for 20 years with this comment.
Thank You ♥. (...I wasn't quite sure if anyone would pick up on that joke)

+1!

I've never been a "huge" fan of the simpsons: I couldn't tell you what my favorite episode is or go into extraordinary detail about the shows history - but the shows cultural impact is so huge, even my life drawing teacher at the time, would constantly refer to examples from the show on how to construct perspective in effect ways. He never watched cartoons, he was a heavy smoker and traditional painter, but he loved The Simpsons, loved the writing. Really cool that scenic simpsons was mentioned, cause that's what my teacher was always referring to. Really fascinating video, everyone should check this out.

EDIT: I had no idea they completed BARTKIRA. Incredible.

But yeah, my friend Edward and I, have been trying to figure out for years, why The Simpsons make such great memes, and I think it's because it's one of the only, handful, of animated shows that focused on a wide range of subject matters including, not just the extraordinary, but also the ordinary and mundane, which is why it's such a great jumping off point for so many of these memes - cause we've all been there and felt or experienced these things at one point or another and it's those moments, those scenes from the old episodes, that are being re-purposed and turned into memes - It's almost like a language at this point.

I had a friend in school, couldn't speak a word of English. But he watched the Simpsons and we bonded over that and laughed at the same jokes, it was like, the great cultural equalizer for us - We may not have spoken the same language, but we understood The Simpsons. XD

Great Vid. Thanks for sharing this Darken! Very very cool! ♥
Thanks J-Man!♥
Yeah, I saw this one the other day. XD
This dude's impersonation of Dan Castellaneta is nearly spot on! Holy shit!
I guarantee you, you guys won't be able to keep a straight face if you watch this.
He even throws in grandpa near the end. This was really impressive.
Hey guys.

Thanks for the 300 downloads. I did not expect this to get 300 downloads.
This number means a lot. Especially since... I lost access to my studio again awhile back.
I'm currently working on a small non-game thing, it may take a little longer to put together because of the lack of studio.
But yeah, keep your eyes peeled for that. It's nothing special, but like steamed hams, I had fun making it.

Thanks again guys. This means a lot.

EDIT: Before I forget, special shout out to Kaempfer!
A real stand-up guy who doesn't get enough credit!
Honestly, I was expecting this to have more than 300 downloads by now. I mean…come on, it’s Steamed Hams, what’s not to like? Still, 300 downloads is still pretty good for a quick joke game that’s been on RMN for about, what, 5 months now?

I still want this game to be featured for next year's April Fools Day, though.
While I have sometime, I just wanted to say thanks to everyone who nominated Steamed Hams this year. You can now vote and check out this years nominations here When I started this tech demo, it was originally just meant to be a fun thing, to kill time with, cause things aren't so hot where I live. But I never imagined this would do so well this year.

I was hoping more games would get nominated, but misao blues aside, getting nominated at all, will always mean a lot, more than you know!

But yeah, Thank You guys for making this year worthwhile.
I'm very happy with the turnout this year. I've been apart of rpgmaker.net for more than 10 years now
and I don't think I've ever seen so many wildly creative games.
2019 was a really great year for rpgmaker!

From the bottom of my heart, to everyone involved, who took part this 2019.

Thank You! ♥
As a thank you for the 600 downloads, I decided to add a small easter egg that I wanted to add originally, but didn't have time to, cause I thought no one would see it - watching nightmargin's stream showed me otherwise - Now if you decide to not buy anything from Krusty Burger, this clip from season 4, Ep22, will play:

it's a continuity error, (It's actually from Gulp 'N' Blow, not Krusty Burger) but I always thought it was pretty funny, lol. One lesson I learned from working on this, is that, when you make something people like, they naturally expect more from it - which I wasn't expecting! But yeah, I'll try to add more stuff next time. Thanks everyone.

...Now check out BeetleNinja.
Hahahahaha, that’s great!

Yeah, adding more stuff to a game is good and all that, but just don’t be like me and so many other countless fools and keep on adding in more stuff until there’s no end in sight. You don’t wanna start heading down a slippery slope that you can never come out of, believe me.

Either way - I love the little Easter Egg. I was wondering, since a new download appeared in my notices feed what it was all about, and then being pleasantly surprised to hear about this awesome little addition. Good stuff.
And here I was, thinking you couldn't cram more any more in there. Looks like I was wrong, again! Just awesome. I think there's already more content in there then people expect, leaving them pleasantly surprised whenever they find something, so this will be another in a long list of (potential) pleasant surprises!
This needs a sequel: Kent Brockman welcoming our new insect overlords.
You have the plot, you just need to make the magic happen.
(adding a secret ending where the master race of space ants actually takes over the world would be a touch of class by the way)

(sorry about the late reply!)
LOL thanks for this! yeah, I've actually thought about this for awhile actually. The problem is figuring out the structure: - the reason why steamed hams worked so well is because it's already in a 3 act structure in 2 minutes. While working on new stuff, I'm finding out that it's very hard to create something similar that follows this interactive structure because most of these episodes are very linear and don't account for player interactions?
Like, i.e. If bart does this, what clip or episode could I use if the player does this, but if bart does something else, what other clips could I use to make it convincing, funny, but not break continuity - So it's very hard to break away from that.

Like, not only do you need a really extensive knowledge of the Simpsons, but you need to remember each of the clips and the episodes in order to create something new and make it work. Like I'd love to do something like this video below, but it'd be a lot of work, lol:

But yeah, the good news is I have plans to do other ones and maybe eventually a tutorial
so everyone can start making their own; it's actually very easy to do once you know how to do it - but naturally it's difficult if you're just starting out. I really wanna go back to doing this at some point, I'm just tied up with rpgmaker archive stuff at the moment. But yeah, thank you for the kind words dude, your comment more than any other, made me want to do more of these, cause it made realize someone was paying attention to all the jokes. XD

Thanks dude!!!❤

I know it's not the same thing but, if you're looking for something to tide ya over till then, probably check out Yeezy RPG I know it's not the same thing, but I love the fact this guy is working on stuff like this. XDD "...After all this time, I'm still Ye."
Not mine, but the same spirit. I've watched this at least 5 times already.

The ending is also pretty cool.
vinesauce, snesdrunk and WTSdubs(DuboftheNorthStar) show up in the comments.
holy shit I wish I could do stuff like this, lol.
