Hello there!

I've released a new version of Wonder Robot D. It was pointed out in the previous version of Wonder Robot D you couldn't enter the tower of trials without the game softlocking. I've made a change to avoid the softlock.

Whoops! Embarrassingly the game will have been this way for a few years as I moved onto other games. But it does make me happy 4 years on the game is being enjoyed by new players. Thank you!

If you're interested in another RPG I'm working on check out reindeer story, Wonder Robot D was using RPGMaker MV however Reindeer Story uses Gamemaker Studio where I've developed my own RPG systems.

I've also been practicing my pixel art so I feel Reindeer Story will be a graphical jump from Wonder Robot D with more expressive characters and action!

Thanks for Playing.

Good luck! With this game, I like your art in this game from the screenshots, as it looks really good. Some, or many, of your maps, may be simplistic (probably, just guessing based on the review and a few screenshots) but the art is pretty good. (I know the review said that too, just adding some feedback to the fact I also like the art).

Maps don't look too bad to me overall, overall sort of average maybe? It's a mix for me on screenshots. But I think I agree it can have more detail or more to it to visually stand out, in some parts. Some look really good, like the tower.

Still good art and all.

Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it! I've finished Wonder Robot D at the moment, this new version was mostly a fix to an overlooked issues.

I agree that the maps are a bit simplistic in design. I was teaching myself both map design and pixel art while I made it. The Tower was one of the last things I did for the project, by that point I was getting better at pixel art.

I'm taking the feedback from Wonder Robot D into account while designing Reindeer Story. With better pixel art, a bit more action to the maps (since you can jump around and stuff) and more interactive gameplay.

From the screenshots, I wouldn't say they look bad though.

The layout and structure of most of the maps look good. And they do have a bit of detail.

I think though, they could do with a few more detail items that could be placed in some of them. So a few more custom art ideas. For example, flowers or other details. Then those could be placed in the different maps, where they sort of fit the theme of that map. In the right sort of positions as well, not too many, just some. (I know you have some flowers on some maps, I just mean a bit more variety of details on some of the maps and a bit more detail at times. So that example could be a different set of flowers).

That would probably be enough for the maps to change from a simplistic perspective a lot.

It's more that they just can be improved in some ways, as the starting ideas for the map structure and paths are okay. Some space for the character is nice to have and I think your spacing is pretty good.

I do see a lot of creativity in them as well, not just in the art direction but definitely in the art too.

Anyway, yeah, mapping for most people requires practice and learning the skill. I feel like it did for me long ago, and it definitely does for me at the moment.

Good luck with your next project! :)
