Wendy The Wicked Witch

A classical point-and-click adventure: explore, find stuff, use it and talk to people.
Locate any item your might have use for. Find out how to use those items. Learn how to travel around. Study your spells. Gather and trade for ingredients. Talk to the townsfolk as a well as your customers.

Your goal is to guide Wendy, a young witch of barely 60 years, through what may be the most important day in her life.
Will she be able to prove to her peers that she's got what it takes to be called a real witch?
Will she learn how to handle her magic, learn how to create potions and scrolls?
Will she be able to help her human customers?
Will she earn their respect?

Or will she fail?

NOTE: this game has been written for the "Theme Roulette 2" event and thus is pretty short ...

It's based on the picture from this post and the word "cute" from that post.

Anybody interested in me working on an improved version? Or even a sequel?

Any suggestions what could be improved?

Or some bugs to report?

I have =O that it so point and click... get suck at home :( .
It seems like an interesting game, but the interface is a little buggy. Trying to leave the village, get back to your bedroom, or enter the woods doesn't seem to work very well. I'm not even sure how I finally left the village, I had to read the grimore before I could get back to my bedroom from the hallway, and I still don't know how to enter the woods. Using the hand or broom just says "You fly to the woods", but then nothing happens.

The game is not very complex and it's meant to be funny but it's not meant as a "joke".

So, if your stuck at home you should try a different approach. Hint: Wendy's a witch. What would she use for transportation?
Spoiler:
There's a broom in her bedroom. And her hat is in a box in her bedroom. Take both, then you can click select the broom and click on the window to fly through it.

That never happened to me. And I tested it like a billion times. You should be able to use your hand on the exit in the hallway with or without reading the grimoire. And if you got the message that you fly to the woods, you should enter them just fine.

Where did you download the game and when? Right here from the game page or from the event? (Both should be the same version ...)

EDIT: I just downloaded it from both location, and they're byte for byte identical. So, as long as your download is named wtww_1_1_pc.zip it should be fine.
For those having problems with the interface:

There's a line of icons at the top of the screen. The first looks like an eye, the second represents a hand. If you take other objects, they might appear in this iconbar, too. (Some don't)

Every icon in this bar has four different states: idle, selected, hover and selected+hover. The state is symbolized by changing the icons' outline: if you move the mouse above an idle icon, it should get a teal outline to. If you click on it it should get selected - which is indicated by a thick yellow outline. If you place your mouse above and icon that's been selected before the outline will turn white (selected+hover).

How to get stuff done?

Move your mouse over the screen. You should notice that some areas get a teal outline when you put the mouse over them.

If you just click on one of these active area on the screen you'll get a short description like "A small piece of burlap." for the rag in the bedroom.

If you want to take a closer look, you should click on the eye-symbol (selecting it), and then on the rag (in that case you'll get a short conversation with your cat, indicating the rag might be useful).

Let's say you want to take the rag. Easy: just click on the hand symbol, then click on the rag. The game tells you "You take the rag", and now there's a rag symbol in the iconbar, too.

Soo ... what do we do with it ... hmm. Suppose you'll find a pair of scissors somewhere ... you can take those and they'll appear in your inventory too.

Let's say you now click on the scissors (thus selecting them) and then on the rag. This tells the game to "use scissors on rag" ... surprise, surprise ... you cut up the rag.

Hmm ... let's have a look at that cut-up-rag, shall we? (click on the eye, then click on the rag).
Oh. It tells me something like "all it needs is some sewing" ... Hopefully you'll find some sewing kit somewhere ...

Most of the game works like this. Click on anything that highlights when you move the mouse over it. Use the "eye" icon on anything that might be of interest. Use the "hand" icon on anything that might be worth taking with you.

And in some cases you can combine stuff like cutting a rag by using the scissors.

Or you could click on something in your inventory and then on a container (like one of those drawers and boxes at your home) to put the item into the container.

For example: if you'd feel putting the scissors into the fridge ... go ahead and do it! (click scissors to select them, then click the fridge. Answer "yes" when asked if you want to do it).

You always can take them back out.

Okay, weird. After restarting the game it is working fine now. Sorry, I should have tried that first.

I don't know about EgyLynx (too early in the morning to parse that phraseology), but, I played this twice when it first came out. I never found the broom in either play. I swear, I clicked on everything in that room everywhere. Yet, from what I'm seeing, I had to have overlooked something to have missed it???

For what it's worth, I do like the look of this game. Thumbs up on the use of Heartache tachie outside of Heartache. Or, maybe I should say Yu's "medium build girl" template?

*grin* Believe me the broom is in this room.
Hint:
You can't see more than just it's handle and no sane mortal person would place their broom where she put it, but it is there.

Seems stuff like this is unavoidable with games like that. In most "Sierra" adventures I ever tried I never was able to leave the starting area either.

Speaking of hiding ... there's a reference to a Simon and Garfunkle song hidden in my game ;)

Glad you like it ;)

Franky, that template and what people like Kevincalanor had contributed to it is my best shot at getting good looking tachie (or sprites for those who prefer that term). So it's mostly "use what you have".

Edit: By the way, I'm hardly the only one using this template outside of Heartache. I know at least one game by Kevincalanor that does too, and I've seen sample graphics that seem to hint at other projects as well.

Oh, right. I totally forgot about that! Aaaaand that. Though, speaking of sample graphics, I have seen a few things from Zakariya...
