Sacred Reviews: Vindicators 2 - Rainbow Diamond

Introduction

"Vindicators 2: Rainbow Diamond" is an entry in The Rainbow of Positivity event. An event that took place between June 21st, 2019, to July 14th, 2019, in order to celebrate gay pride month, but this game also marks a follow up to "The Vindicators" a parody of The Avengers, a British TV series, that was released for the Swap in the Middle with You event. Apparently, the people behind this series really love competing in game making events. And, I'm rather thankful for that after getting through "Dreams Do Come True" and "Rosarum Boarding School".

Story

The story of "Vindicators 2: Rainbow Diamond" appears rather straight-forward at first glance. After all, the game starts with you and your partner being called in to solve a rather routine diamond heist. Or at least as routine as mission can be when The Avengers need to be called into solve it. Of course, the mission goes a bit off the rails when a fellow operative is kidnapped by a group of ninjas after the rainbow diamond decide to reveal themselves. After all, why should they do the dirty work when they can send Jack & Daniels off to do it for them?

Of course, all of this is a ruse for the game's real story, but I can't help but try to up sell the distraction a little bit. After all, you'll spend the bulk of this game listening to witty banter and thugs bemoaning their insignificance as Jack beats them rightly with his umbrella.

Gameplay

The "Vindicators 2: Rainbow Diamond" is a rather solid games in most areas but notably suffers on the combat side of things. This is because the bulk of the engagements in this game boil down to a simple three step process. This process kicks off with Daniel casting haste on the party, Jack then adds onto this buff with an attack boost for himself, and then proceeds to unless Ryoga Hibiki's umbrella on anyone foolish enough to get in his way. In a way I suppose you could consider this series of steps to be a bit like a waltz of death. Though, I suppose it could also be a bit romantic as well considering Jack and Daniel's love for fighting.

Thankfully the game isn't seriously maimed by possessing such dull combat for a few reasons. For starters, the enemies being weak and easily dealt with does make sense from a story perspective. Secondly, the game keeps the player engaged during combat with Jack, Daniel, and their enemies exchanging witty banter during combat. And finally the game is rather short. As such, the player doesn't spend enough time engaged in combat in this game to get really frustrated about the lack of challenge.

Graphics & Sound

On the graphical and sound side of things the game is on par with what you'd expect from the first game. As such, I really don't have anything new to say about it.

Conclusion

"Vindicators 2: Rainbow Diamond" is easily one of the better games to come out of The Rainbow of Positivity event. And easily the best game to come out of that event based on the entries I've looked at so far. As such, I'm willing to be a little generous on the rating side of things, but don't get me wrong. This is legitimately a good game and a solid follow up for those who were a fans of the original game. In fact, I'm hoping future contests lead to more entries in this series.

I wonder if they had Jack Daniels at the reception?
