hey yall, ko cupid is under RECONSTRUCTION.

it's still the same basic idea but fleshed-out and more linear. it's basically a craze take on a proper jrpg. that... probably means it's more along the lines of a Tales game than an FF or DQ, if you're curious.

if you thought juneau was an idiot already, then boy do i have news for you!!

old description:

Train, equip, and upgrade your guild... with love!

The Shoreline War's three-year span has come to a close, with the land-dwellers of Cydrel successfully fending off the aquatic Tritons' fearsome attacks. Although Port Clancy itself was left mostly unscathed, the surrounding lands cannot say the same. Many soldiers and guild mercenaries were lost.

In this period of renewal, two guilds have been granted the right to form and begin to replenish the ranks: Guild Pegasus and Guild Cupid. Our protagonists, Kacey and Juneau, take their new roles as guild captains seriously.

...okay, Kacey does. Juneau just wants to date cute girls and undermine Valorie, the leader of Cupid, at every opportunity.

---

KO Cupid is a game about training your guild members, investing in the recovering economy of Port Clancy, and going on hot dates.

Back of the box bullet points:
Nine guild members to train, equip, and utilize against many interesting and varied enemies
Oodles of dialogue between both your guild members and the citizens of Port Clancy
An overarching story about flawed heroes and the challenges they create for themselves
Partake in steamy love affairs -- or turn on the "cute version" if you want a more PG experience

So... what is this, now?

RAMBLE INCOMING

So, you might've noticed I've been using the same characters in all my recent games (even two almost none of you have seen)... and I think I've finally refined them to a place where I'm really happy.

Originally, I was gonna sit down and go over the timeline/connections between these ideas, but what's the point? You never saw them in full. Basically, I just wanted to tell two stories:

1) Juneau as a failure of a hero, who causes disaster before eventually growing to fill the role
2) Kacey overcoming his bastard birth and leading a disparate group of people toward political change

But then, I'd get bogged down in the melodrama of everybody else. And, sure, some of that is still present where it aids the story -- but specifically, where it aids Kacey and Juneau's story. The focus is on them. Kacey's goal has also changed some, now. I'm now considering him like a 'main sidekick'; Juneau is absolutely the main character, but she won't get anywhere with Kacey. Kacey and Juneau also get their own sidekicks, so it's a pretty muddy term. Oh well.

Because I'm actually insane, KO Cupid has fourteen playable characters to the original version's nine (ten, but... sssh, that secret's intact). That said, there are five optional characters, although most play key roles in the story regardless. When and who you collect will change the story slightly in ways I think are meaningful enough to warrant their sorta-exclusion.

I'm also gonna say it now, that the big twist of Greenlands is that Erina was going to actually replace Juneau as the main character. That won't happen anymore, especially since Erina is fully optional, but that it should be kinda obvious from my latest screenshot... Velston is also a major character, to the point where he co-opts the end of the game. Is that weird to say now? It's in the intro. Nobody reads RMN blogs anyway.

I feel like if you see this scene and don't go "well, we're either going to play or kill him" then you're a fool.

Well, we're either going to play or kill her, huh?

I don't have a sick nautilus or anything. Maybe I'll come up with one. Right now, here's what the critical path looks like:

...is this spoilers too? I don't even care. It's about the journey, kids. jrpgs always spoil everything in the first hour anyway. Have you ever seen a Tales intro? You just assume every word is a lie. I'm going off on a tangent, aren't I?

Anyway, the beach and swamp are mapped, and I've started on the catacombs. Game only has four towns and I have one finished and another partially done.

I'd like to do bios for each. Hmm. Anyway, most skillsets are done (there's some tweaking from KO Cupid the OG, but not much. Juneau and Kacey got nerfed lol.) Claude and Lyre have skillsets on paper. Salle and Tallis are pretty up in the air. Valorie is the secret character from the original KO Cupid. Shocking. You don't actually kill off her Cupid guild. What the fuck is the point of that title then????

i need to finish this. i want to finish this. it's the conglomeration of all my ideas of the past few years, in one LINEAR and STRAIGHT-FORWARD package. i can do this i can do this i can do this

Been playing the Rainbow build for the last two or so hours, and I absolutely love it! The characters are all charming and funny (Juneau is my fav) and I can't wait to take them on dates, the quest-based progression is a lot of fun, and the battle abilities are varied and make you want to try out all the characters' skills :DDDD

A ton of awesome ideas here, like dating characters to raise level caps. Also a lot of cool polish, like dialog displayed at the top of the screen during battle and fun scenes you get sometimes when resting for the night.

Only thing I don't like is that the skip text button is mapped to the same button as dash, which means sometimes I skip text that I wanted to read (and I don't wanna miss any of the character's witty quips).

PS: The "cute" and "sexy" modes were an awesome idea, letting things get steamy if you want or just staying cute (tho I haven't gotten to the dates yet so I don't know how exactly it works out, but I'm looking forward to seeing). Gotta remember that idea for some of my future game ideas if I ever decide to make something more sexy that usual XD

i was worried people might dislike juneau since she starts off as kind of a bully... she's more self-aware than she lets on though, and i hope her development through the actual main story (of which there's basically none in-game now lol) keeps her likeable instead of going flat.

heh heh... but yeah ultimately the game is meant to be "grindy guild game" than romance sim, especially since (spoilers? lol?) the end results for Kacey and Juneau are story-related and canon.... though i think the first dates set that up pretty clearly anyway (i mean, erina's straight, for one.) so yeah, i didn't wanna force the naughty bits on anybody who just wanted a goofy guild game.

Okay, I have now gone on all the dates and I have to say, I adore this game :DDD So good!

The fact that you can't influence the end results for Juneau and Kacey would normally be kinda a negative for me, but really, the characters are so charming that just interacting with them and seeing how they bounce off our two leads is reward enough! I, like Jeneau, also wanted some flirting with elf girl, but if she's not comfortable with that, it was still very cute to have a picnic with her and with Kacey.

I find this game inspiring in several ways, especially in that it broadens my horizons for how you can do a romance game. It's also a fun game to chill out and grind some levels/ingredients. Really like it and I hope you'll continue it! :DDDDD

Also, after about two dates, I was like "Where are the steamy dates?" and then the next three were extremely steamy XDXD Very nice!

I find her personality likable despite being kind of a jerk. She's still so fun and gung-ho. Plus the fact that her guildmates don't let her off the hook for her actions/comments helps a lot, too. Also any heroine who wants to date all the girls is an A+ in my book XD

Thanks for the continued comments, unity!!

Yeah, I think I'm gonna stick with this one for now. I already did a few more maps and have planned out the next five levels of quests. the big block right now is that i'm working at a camp in the middle of the woods so no progress for three weeks... but i'll get back to it after!

and yeah, some people are steamy... some will become steamy XD

thanks again for the inspiring comments. at least for you, it's checked off the things I wanted to check off (fun characters, ability to "idle"/grind optionally, goofy romance).
