This game is part of the Repent Loci series.
-------------------------------------------

Alphonse is a rather old man. Working in a mirror shop, he loses his job and apartment within 6 months, leaving him with only a phosphorescent orb he stole.

He hides in an abandoned cellar, and starts going out at night, stealing vegetables from the locals and their vegetable patches, lighting himself thanks to the orb.
But as he does so, the weather goes bad, animals starts behaving erratically, and the orb doesn't seem to go dimmer...

The Orb is half story-driven horror, half board-ish puzzle game.
The gameplay involves sneaking into vegetable patches, pushing boards in order to avoid walking on leaves, and reaching vegetables.

Warnings:
1 - this is a horror game. It contains depictions of violence against animals and mental degradation.
2 - the game is presumably rather difficult.
3 - as part of the Repent Loci series, the game isn't standalone, and makes better sense in a broader context.

Additional credit:
The game contains custom scripting made by OldPat.

I just finished this game and it was pretty good! I liked how the protagonist slowly loses his mind as the nights go by. The puzzles were also nicely balanced, though slightly too hard at first because there isn't a proper tutorial (How are you supposed to know that you can push boards that are positioned one after the other?). But I discovered the mechanics by just playing the game and trying different things so I guess it's not that cryptic.

There's one very important bug, one that almost made me quit the game. When you finish a puzzle a dialog box will appear (Sometimes mid-puzzle too) and of course, in order to skip it you have to press the confirm button, right? The problem is that the game isn't paused when these dialog boxes appear, so while you innocently push the button the game will also detect it as if you were trying to push the boards. This can be devastating as there's a chance of accidentally ruining your "escape route", making you do that section all over again. This happened to me both in the first puzzle (Where it was annoying) and the last one (Which almost made me rage quit, because it's a pretty long one) I had to cheat here and use a walk through walls cheat, because I didn't want to drop the game so close to the end.

There were some things that I didn't understand though (Possible spoilers ahead?)

Why is that orb so special? I thought he just stole from a regular store, what does it represent? What was killing the squirrels and making the bad weather? Was there something else going on on that street? And who's the woman in the end? And it's just me or there was a garden that we never visited? I guess many of my questions would be answered by playing the other -repent loci- game, though just at a glance at its game page, it looks like the games aren't really connected.

Overall, it was a nice game. A little hard but definetly worth a try.
Damn, someone liked it, I didn't expect that. Thanks.

You're right, that's a pretty annoying bug. I had no problem with it because I was always turned towards a tree, but... I might be able to make a fix and reupload. I'll look into that.
The lack of tuto, I want to keep it that way, keep the "you're homeless and must patch a solution for yourself" vibe yknow.

As for the spoilers...
These are excellent questions, they're even the whole point of this short game. I'm glad you asked them.
The Repent Loci games (and even the non games) are absolutely connected, and things like "what the orb really is" are questions of a wider scope than that of this short game. I promise you, each one of these has at least one explanation~.

Ah, I see... Well, in the end, I discovered the mechanics by myself without too many problems, so I guess it's ok to leave it like that. And hey, it looks like I have to play the other Repent Loci game someday! I assume that there will be more games in the series, right?
Yeah, plenty more. Including my main, big horror game, which will also belong to Repent Loci.
(and Severed Waters is entirely story driven and very easy, may I inform xD)
