Announcement

Moonsong v1.3 update is here!

The third update is here! And it's a doozy. The end of the game has been completely rebalanced to increase difficulty and the mid game has been changed to be more challenging, as well. A new type of equipment has also been added!

There will be small save inconsistencies with earlier versions, but only because the light armour characters (Siegfried, Amelia and Elle) can no longer equip shields. Saves should load fine, but shields will need to be unequipped to update correctly. Khalid can equip both shields and the new book-type item which replaced shields for magic-focused characters, so he'll be fine either way.

One major thing of note: please uninstall the old Moonsong.fon font after downloading the update and then reinstall the one included in 1.3's folder. The font must be deleted before installing the new version, otherwise it won't update correctly (a restart might fix this, but this is a Windows bug so I have no control over this). The new version of the font fixes certain unicode characters and adds Spanish text support. If this is your first time installing the game, simply right clicking on the Moonsong.fon file found in the main directory of the game and selecting "install" will fix the font in game!

Anyway, please let me know if you have any problems with old save games other than the shield thing!

Change list:

  • Fixed font to show NoĆ«mi's name correctly.

  • Added unicode support for Spanish text.

  • Rebalanced mid- and late-game monsters to have more HP and deal more damage. This change is especially noticeable in the desert and snow areas. (thanks to everyone!)

  • Changed some resistances for late-game monsters to make monster groups harder to eliminate with a single poweful attack.

  • Removed shields from the light armour characters.

  • Added a new off-hand slot item for Amelia, Khalid, Elle and Siegfried: the book. Books act like shields, but offer less defense. Instead, they increase intelligence and give a small attack boost.

  • Added new merchants in all cities in the game to sell the new books.

  • Magic gear (light armour, books and staves) can now be found for sale in all towns at new merchants denoted by a moon icon on their vendor sign (except Ebora, where it is sold by the quartermaster).

  • Updated one of the NPCs in Ebora to give you your first book for free if you find her.

  • Added a small number of extra equipment pieces for balance.

  • Fixed a difficult to trigger but serious pathfinding issue in Karnev. (thanks to grayshadow)

  • Changed the contents of a small number of chests.

  • Changed font to be brighter and more readable.

  • Finally added a custom icon (it's simple, but it's something!).

If you notice any issues with this new update, feel free to let me know! Any feedback on the updated balancing would be especially helpful.

Moonsong v1.2 update now ready!

The second update is now here! There should be no save inconsistencies between this update any any older versions of the game so once again you can update the game just by extacting the contents into the same game folder and overriding the old files.

If this is your first time downloading Moonsong, please make sure to install Moonsong.fon, which is located in the main game directory. This is necessary to make the fonts appear normal in game. All you need to do is right click on the file and select install and that's it! Fonts fixed!

Please let me know if you have any problems with old save games!

Fix list:

  • Fixed Aria's scaling (reduced its effect by 1hp per level but correctly scaled to level IV) (thanks to Deckiller)

  • Fixed Quartermaster item rewards for Khalid (if you took the Contender ring in v1.1 it is now a working item)

  • Fixed Quartermaster item rewards for Siegfried.

  • Tweaked AP rewards in certain areas (most notably the blue jellyfishes, Man-o-Wars, now give 1AP. The pink jellyfish, the Man-o-Peace, still gives 2AP).(thanks to Deckiller)

  • Removed a major pathfinding issue on the Merchant's Coast (thanks to Punk_Kricket)

  • Kindle now does a small amount of fire damage in addition to inflicting ignite to better balance Elle's early game skills. Although the damage is low, with multipliers it can be a nice bonus. (thanks to Firefly84)

  • Removed a strange, misplaced testing event in Marahas (thanks to Firefly84)

  • Fixed several small encounter issues (thanks to Firefly84)

  • Corrected several graphical mistakes in the skill trees (thanks to Firefly84)

  • Minor tweaks to some sidequest rewards.

  • Added several crates and barrels scattered around with minor loot inside.

  • Re-added (and tweaked) a very small new area just south of Ebora that had been dummied out.

  • Tweaked some dialogue, especially around Ebora.

  • Changed Elle's starting items (added one Energy potion, removed one health) to give her an easier time in her introductory scenes.

This update fixes all the bugs reported so far, but I'm sure there are still some floating around. If you spot anything (even a typo!), let me know!

  • Fixed a potential game breaking bug in Marahas if you backtracked at the wrong time (thanks to Frogge).

  • Added Siegfried's Tomb Sludge, he will now show up correctly when summoned (thanks to handalfed).

  • Removed several minor potential sequence breaks.

  • Corrected some minor pathfinding issues.

  • Changed Erik's portrait to be the right one in the intro area (thanks to TheRpgmakerAddict).

This update should address everything found since release- so good hunting, and have fun!

Moonsong v1.0 download has arrived!

Version 1.0 is out now. Special thanks to my testers who helped me smooth out the last of the bugs I missed! Play it and let me know what you think on the main gamepage.

Please install Moonsong.fon, located in the main directory of the game, before playing.

A minor caveat: due to the DBS being... argumentative, there are some combat bugs which I cannot fix. None of them effect gameplay too much, they're mostly just jank. A complete list can be found below:

Sometimes, Elle's battle commands don't update when she sings. Fixes itself after a turn.

Enemies sometimes survive their death condition and die only after a delay. They will sometimes take a turn and then die.

Battle cursor gets hung for a split second sometimes (happens when animations are queued).

Summons often take several actions to arrive.

Setting combat to "Wait" doesn't stop enemy ATB bars (though they won't attack while the player has a menu open).

Dealing more than 2x an enemy's HP will yield no AP (this is a janky feature to prevent grinding low-level enemies).

Occasionally, the death sound for an enemy plays twice, especially when high damage is dealt.

Sometimes the last enemy in a large group doesn't yield AP.

Outside of combat, the game should be completely bug-free, though, so don't let these scare you off!

Again, make sure you install Moonsong.fon, which can be found in the main directory of the game, before playing!

Request

Alpha August (testers needed!)

Hello RMN chums, I will be moving to a stage somewhere halfway between Alpha and Beta testing stages and I need some help (say... three help?) with testing. My eyes can only see so much.

If you're interested, send me a PM! You can also PM me on Discord (I'm in the RMN server) if you'd prefer. I'll try and check both regularly.

I hope to be ready to send the Alpha on August 5th and the testing period will likely end two weeks after that. Even if you're strapped for time, feel free to message me; even a partial test is better than nothing! The game isn't very long (maybe around 4 hours?) so it shouldn't be a massive time sink.

Thanks in advance!
