Introduction

Carol is a prodigy matchmaker, a person who helps other people find the loves of their lives. There is nothing she likes more than to make people happy, and in her talents as a matchmaker, she found a way to do just that.

As a special day of celebration draws near in the lovely island of Tropicalia, the island's mayor asks Carol to serve as a matchmaker for the island's eight young singles.

The mayor is adamant that Carol only pairs men with women, and women with men, but as Carol will eventually find out, the only way to truly make all singles in the island happy is to convince him to break that rule.

Features

- Exploration and puzzle based gameplay, where puzzles with actual mechanics are favored over pure inventory puzzles.

- A map screen to help players find their way.

- A custom inventory menu, and a custom menu to review the information acquired about the island's singles.

- Many cutscenes are skippable by holding SHIFT and spamming Z (I know, clunky, but I couldn't come up with a better way).

- A few secrets for people who like to explore.

- Project files will be included, in case people want to crack the game open in RPG Maker to see how I made some stuff. There's nothing super complex, but even then.

Other Information

I'll be using mostly REFMAP/FSM and other royalty-free sources for my graphics, and the RMN music pack along with a few Kevin MacLeod songs for the soundtrack.

This game was originally planned to be released in the 50 Days of Representation jam but, unfortunately, I will not be done with it in time for the jam. It is larger than I thought it would be, and I'll be very busy before the jam ends.

This will be the first of what I hope will be many games featuring my original character Carol. I hope you will like her as much as I do. If she comes off as rather "Mary Sue," please let me know, and I'll try to characterize her better next time.

Patch notes, version 1.0.1

Hey there. The game is still pretty much the same, but I corrected a small (but game breaking) bug.

Patch notes:

- Corrected a bug where it was possible to get softlocked in Bruno's restaurant.

Oh, I decided to return the favour and play your game. I was originally planning on doing a full review, but I'll hold off until you can get more content ready and just give you my impressions.

- The intro was really creative. Haven't seen anyone do a texting thing in RPGmaker before.

- Block puzzles were good. I liked how the difficulty gradually built up and getting to Ana stumped me a few times. Nothing ever felt unfair - just required me to think.

- Exploration was fun, even if it was somewhat limited in the demo. I wasn't expecting to play a Metroidvania so that was a pretty welcome surprise. Disappointed I never got the machete, though.

- Carol didn't strike me as a Mary Sue. Wouldn't have minded learning more about her as a person, but she definitely wasn't obnoxious.

Yay, thanks! :D
Once I don't have the deadline of the contest on my shoulders I'm playing this because we love a good matchmaking game!

Nice! I played the demo and I liked the puzzles. Easy but nice and cute, different from nostro games I know, goood maps and graphics... I will wait for the complete release!

Not going to lie, I want to see Carol matchmaking with the power of EXPLOSIONS. Though, that might be cause I'm thinking of the RTP character of the same name, and how I envision her personality as a basis for a certain character.

Crazy coincidence that one of the RTP characters is called Carol, haha! I never knew this, and now I'm super curious.

I tried creating a new project in RM2K3, but none of the characters had that name, so I'm assuming it's from another version of RPG Maker?

This was a fun game to watch, and wasn't sure if it was completed? If so, I'll see if I can't give it a spin?

I finally played this, and it's an excellent game!

Here's a link to the video: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1463560466

It's probably the best RPG Maker puzzle game I have ever played. Emotionally resonant story (sometimes a bit obvious, but obvious in a way that's totally empathic), great message, backed up by interesting puzzle mechanics and some stuff I've never seen in RPG Maker before! Truly excellent, well-made, and slick. I'm looking forward to whatever Gretgor does in future.

Hopefully I'll gather myself together to write a coherent review to submit about this. If not, I would say I'd give this game a 4.5/5 in terms of my enjoyment. Loved this a lot.

Love ya, Gretgor! And everybody, do play this great game :D
