Fragment of a larger story

Fragment is an entry to the Trials of MZ event, with no plugins allowed and only MZ RTP (and self-edits of such) allowed in the game. Also, the time for making the game was only about nine days.

Fragment focuses mostly on story and presentation. It features very nice visual novel style cutscenes and a pretty decently told story, which is basically a prologue to what would have been a larger game. It centers around Reid and his two friends living in a fantasy world, with hints that this might be an Isekai scenario. I won't talk about it further so as not to spoil anything else.

The environments are beautiful and definitely show great care put into them and along with the cutscenes, the presentation is definitely great. The actual combat is on the easy side, unless you decide to totally forgo the character's skill tree.

And speaking of that, this is the one thing that makes the game stand out the most. The game features an entirely evented skill tree, where different characters can unlock different skills. Something one wouldn't necessarily expect in an RPG Maker games that didn't have the limitations imposed by the event.

As was said before, the actual combat is prettty easy all things considered. You almost always have a 3 person party with their own unlockable skills while the monsters themselves seem to be balanced to be beatable without you using your level up points in the skill tree at all. This is fine for a tutorial section of the game and also for a short event game, but if there were to be something more included beyond that, it would be a high time to up the challenge somewhat. Still, this clearly isn't a combat-focused game, so it works alrigh as-is.

Fragment is a very nice experience. Here's hoping that maybe one day, there will be a sequel.

Thank you so much for giving Fragment a review! I'm glad you enjoyed the experience, as I set out to make something short, sweet and completable (I usually design battles a bit into the harder end, but I wanted the game to be on the easy side due to it being for an event.)

I have considered making a sequel, but I've got a couple of other projects in the pipeline that are more important. We'll see ;)
