Quick! A cat need to be rescued!

A... cat in ghost town?
Hmmm nice title isn't it?
Oh first, before starting the game I recommend you to check if you have the RTP...I didn't and the game crashed on the first combat (on the first attack!)...

Uhm ok, fixed this little problem I was ready to begin! The story is rather simple: Leila the cat goes through the bedroom mirror and the two protagonists, Sophie and Damien, follow her into a parallel, dark dimension of our world.

Here people have red eyes... but are quite normal for the rest, since they provide useful hints or sell services of various kind. And there are monsters, of course!

This game for some reason is dark, even too dark if I compare the portraits and facesets to the rest...

Enemies will be our source of money and experience, and most of them respawn (only those inside the school do not, if I remember correctly), so grinding is an important part (and necessity of the game).
But here's where the game is different from the others: experience isn't very useful at all, since there are no new skills (and the two party members also have almost no difference), you just need money even to improve permanently the two brothers. Most buyable items, consimables and equipment can also be looted after combat, along with some rare coins that are worth 600 gold coins!
There's also a guy that lets you increase the difficulty of the encounters (from 1 to 4), letting out characters earn more money by fighting more and/or stronger enemies. Nice!
Oh and you can also earn a ton of gold defeating bosses (there are tour of them), the important thing is learning to spend it wisely!

Combat pretty standard but has some clever gimmicks: the first is that there is no mana (the two brothers are just normal guys even if they haven to kill monsters to save their cat!), just Tp(s)that increase when the character attacks or is attacked (even if it starts with a random quantity, but not much). The second gimmick is that these Tp are used to perform aimed attacks that are different from the (boring and standard) torso attack: you can attack the head for an high damage at a cost or a reduced precision, or the arms to reduce the opponent attack. Hitting the legs can instead reduce the enemy speed, but wait there is more! Some enemies have weak points (the spiders have weak legs, remember this!), others have strengths (the Lion is armored so only some body parts are exosted and can be hit effectively). They also possess various skills, special attacks or the annoying ability to put your characters to sleep!

Monsters are all dark creatures and fit well the Ghost Town. Unfortunately, while charsets and portraits are nice, mapping is instead not as interesting as the rest, the map is quite simple and bland, but ok, this was made for an event, anyway I expected a bit more. Also I was expecting some more events about Leila the cat that plays a very marginal role despite being mentioned in the title.

Oh yeah, thanks a lot. And I guess you won't help us with that... I's sure, we're the heroes of this game!

FINAL VERDICT
I liked this game for some interesting concept like the use of tonics to increase the characteristics. Unfortunately you really need just to raise the hitpoints since the powerful elemental scrolls are all you need to prevail (and I got half of them killing enemies. I admit I finished the game underlevelled (characters had about 2000-2100 hp, 9th level) compared to what suggests the game, and it took me about an hour or a little more to reach the end.

It's an ok game, with some seriously interesting features, a cute simple story (that left some details and questions unanswered but ok!), and a heavy focus on combat encounters that you may or may not like. I don't mind but I found this a bit repetitive (could have been shorter), anyway it's not bad and it is a solid concept without errors or bugs (I have nothing to report from this point).

I think 3/5 is appropriate. An ok event game, Now I am curious to play something else from this developer, really.

I thank Maggie for the help during this review.

Oh that's a nice score!
(I can say that my mission "Getting a better feedback for my game compared to 50 Days" is now completed.)

Time to give my opinion:

Oh no... I screwed up AGAIN the compiling! I was really sure it'd work without any problem. I think I really should check some tutorials on how to export properly my games.

At first, I wanted the game to be a very classical RPG with more towns, more places, etc. But the balancing would have been harder.

Well I'm not surprised for the mapping. Abandoned town means empty places. I could have added some vegetation but I was so afraid to be out of time I've put aside the mapping.

Ohhhhwell never played the other game but this is good considered it was made for an event. It stands between 3 and 3,5 anyway maybe someone would like combat more than me, I know that I usually play for the story and for me combat is just a "filler/time waster". But uhm ok!

And concerning the Rtp... heh I usually have only the Rm2k3 installed anyway it was a problem easily solved!

Oh well as I wrote before I didn't mind even a shorter game considered the contest, so it's ok! Funny that the game suggested 3500 hp and 100 STR just for the penultimate enemy, but as I said in the review I finished the game (in about 1 hour and 25) at level 9 with 2000-2100 hp each and 53 STR! ^^

Oh yeah, I know the setting is barren, but I meant just details and decorations, such as... I dunno, skeletons, rocks, ruins, more houses (since there are some characters wandering around... these could have been just locked buildings you cannot enter). That's not much else I'd have changed from the visual point of view, by the way! ^_^'
