Legend of the Mystical Deer is a turn based strategy game made for the Seasons of RMN IV event. It features winter and a deer.

Your hero, Soy, must prove himself at a skill validation test: hunt The Mystical Deer. He starts the hunt with four companions. The first dialog lines include jokes and reveal that the game doesn't take itself too seriously. It would be legit to give a comedy tag to the game in its description.

Early on the first map, two very useful charters join the hunting team but you will not recruit anyone after that. This perfectly fits the narrative and boosts your team efficiency to meet the challenges ahead. The game doesn't have a tutorial and its difficulty is high. I like the challenge it presents to me and I must admit I reloaded my same several times to keep every party member alive. First-timers won't probably enjoy this game targeted to strategy enthusiasts. If you've finished another Dyhalto's strategy game (especially Fire RMNblem) you're well prepared for this one.

They are 3 maps in the game. They all force you to fight under time pressure. Dyhalto managed to introduce some variety: on map 2, you can remove the time pressure by taking down the gargoyle flying threat. You need to be a versatile hunter to succeed: Tiered to chase after a running animal? Let's play some duck hunt! In general, enemy placement offers a good set of tactical options. In map 3, Dyhalto created extremely efficient enemy combinations that take full advantage of the terrain and creatures abilities.

Graphics combines the excellent use of well know sprites and adds some custom ones to emphasize the comedy effect.

Music is good and matches the action on screen. I really like the fun surprises coming from the sound effects associated with the deer iterations.

Summary
* Great challenge
* Excellent humor
* Not for first-timer tacticians

Thanks for the review, Irog. You're way too generous with that Star rating :P I added a Comedy tag as you suggested.

Was it really that difficult? x) I need to learn to dial things back a bit. It's worth noting that if someone dies, they return as-was for the next map. I probably should've mentioned that in-game though.
I have sweet spots for strategy and humor. You did a great job combining these two aspects in your game hence the generous score.

It wasn't that difficult. I did a few mistakes, especially when my healer got paralyzed on map 3 (she is the only one able to cure "paralyze"). I probably rushed too much: the deer had more than 50% HP left when I reached it on map 1 and 3. On map 2 it had 100% HP.

Yes, you should mention that defeated party members return for the next battle.
