Available June 2nd, 2016!
Steam | Humble | Itch.io*

"Long, long ago, the elven sorcerers cast a spell to save the floating world of Ara Fell from destruction. Instead, they doomed it to fall from the sky. By chance, the fate of the world has been placed in the hands of a young woman. Join her as she and her friends endeavor against all odds to save their homeland, all while the clock ticks ever nearer the final hour..."

Ara Fell combines the best parts of Japanese-style roleplaying games with the best parts of western RPGs, as well as including elements of visual novels and adventure games to create a truly unique experience. Atmosphere, emotion and surprise lie at the forefront of Ara Fell's story, driven by deep and accessible characters, each with his or her own past, their own desires and their own motivations for joining Lita's quest. Relive the golden age of the RPG with a game that both pays homage to the past greats, as well as blazing its own trail.

  • EXPLORATION - Ara Fell is a world meant to be explored! Jump, crawl, swim and even fly through the air to solve puzzles and discover new locations filled with hidden treasure, secrets and adventure! Every corner of Ara Fell is designed with exploration in mind.
  • OPEN WORLD - Most of the world can be explored from the moment you leave Aloria Village, the heroine's home town... provided, of course, you're strong enough. A clever explorer may be able unlock secrets and discover powerful equipment early in the game if he or she commits to taking advantage of the open nature of the game world.
  • TACTICAL COMBAT - Ara Fell may be a story-heavy game, but the world is still fraught with danger. Choose specialized equipment and statistics, customizing each character to best suit your play style, and to best thwart each boss battle's unique mechanics.
  • CHARACTER DRIVEN - When you join Ara Fell's unwitting heroine on her quest to save her homeland, you'll discover a world filled with vibrant characters who laugh, cry, crack jokes, lose their tempers, and even their will to go on as the size and scope of the curse that plagues Ara Fell becomes apparent. Friends and villains alike are not who they seem as the stakes grow ever higher...

Just Kidding! Ara Fell epilogue is available now on Steam. Also DPad support!

We were going to release it after some testing at the end of the month, but testing went smoothly and we decided to just go for it. Enjoy!

EPILOGUE

By popular request, I've added an epilogue to the end of Ara Fell as a free update. This brief addition will hopefully make for a much more satisfying ending, and give closure to those who felt the original ending was lacking in that area.

There are two ways you can access it.

1) You can defeat the final boss, view the original ending, and then stick around for the epilogue. A save game right before the fight with story mode enabled is provided below. If you're coming back just to view the epilogue, I recommend viewing the original ending again along with it!

END GAME SAVE WITH STORY MODE ENABLED

Just drop this into your Ara Fell Folder and rename it to Save0X.lsd, where X is a number. This is the default path, but yours may vary. C:\Program Files\Steam (x86)\SteamApps\Common\Ara Fell

2) or you can jump right into the epilogue by pressing the ESC or gamepad B key several times (about 5 or 6) on the title menu. This will bring up an option asking if you'd like to view the epilogue.

NOTE: If you're deciding to give this another playthrough, be advised that the transition from the end of the game to starting a new game hasn't been fully tested yet... the code is without error and should work, but the engine is finnicky sometimes, and I'm worried it might skip over parts of it...

D-PAD SUPPORT / VOLUME CONTROL

D-pad support should now be enabled for most gamepads. You may need to make sure the gamepad is powered on prior to starting the game in order for it to work.

For volume control, you can adjust this by selecting "Settings" on the title screen, by using the "UTILITY: Options" item in your inventory or by pressing the F5 key on your keyboard. This will bring up the usual video options, with a new button on the right to adjust volume.

BUG FIXES / BALANCE CHANGES / COLORBLIND MODE

A variety of small tweaks and fixes have been applied to the game; too many to list here, but nothing major. Thanks to everyone who took the time to point out some of these issues!

We've also included a colorblind mode in this update, which addresses a few issues colorblind people may run into, including updated an keyboard guide which can be accessed via the UTILITIES: Information item, as well as altering the color puzzle in the Ruins of Arei.

FALSE POSITIVES FOR ANTIVIRUS SOFTWARE

It seems RPG_RT.exe may bring up false positives for some overzealous anti-virus software. We've tested this thoroughly and are confident that there are no issues, but as always, we can't be 100% sure... Please let us know if you get any anti-virus hits and we'll continue looking into this. Thanks!

Lastly, please leave a review if you're so inclined! I've said this many times before, but it's worth repeating... we worked really hard on this game, but it's often difficult to get taken seriously on a big market like Steam. Every review makes us seem more legitimate, and even brief reviews are helpful! And besides that, we love reading them.

Okay, thanks everyone! As always, let us know if you run into any issues. Have fun!

Now that would have been different compared to the original. I wonder how many people, if released, would have appreciated the change or not?

Considering how dull the battle system was originally, I can't imagine people would have minded too much. But I didn't expect the primary audience of AFXP to be the RPG making community.

OUTSTANDING!!! I can fly :)

I wonder if Papa is still alive :(

This is actually my 2nd shot at playing Ara Fell.
First time I could not find my damn cat and gave up cause you had not shown yourself for some time so I thought....game over :(
Glad I decided to try again.....

Looking forward to the new and shiny version :)
Glad you're enjoying it!

I'll be interested to see what the people who just got done playing the old version will think of the new.
Hey, where you announce the final version of this game?
I'm anxious for him because the Ara Fell: the Legend of Dirisetsu Hollow changed much my life... Because of him I created a YouTube channel focused only for RPG Maker games reviews.
@Chitaum

Not sure. Any suggestions?
Please excuse me if this isn't the place for this, or if I'm in the wrong (this is my first time ever commenting on anything)... but this is the only game I'm having this problem with!

When I try to begin the game by clicking on the application, I get the message "RPG Maker 2003 Run Time Package is not present or is not registered".

I didn't know if I was the only one having this problem with this game or if anyone else did. Or possibly if anyone knew how to fix it? I have downloaded the RTP (and uninstalled and re-downloaded twice), so I'm not sure where to go from here? I've been reading what an amazing game this is, so I'm actually really excited to try it!

Thank you for taking the time to read this!!
@starrysonata

I'm not sure, unfortunately. That's the error message that pops up when the RTP hasn't been included in the game, but it definitely has for this game. I'm not sure what the issue is. I haven't heard of that happening. You might have better luck asking in the forums, as it sounds like it might be an issue not specific to Ara Fell.

There will be a demo. And I'll leave the current version up until the new release is ready.

As for the pony tail not suiting her... well, fair enough, but that woman in the AFXP screenshots isn't Lita. She's Alaia.

Ohhhhh.

I recommend putting on Steam Green Light. This will make it easier for people from other countries are able to buy your game for a good price.
I definitely will (among other places) but it's tough to get your game green lit.
Well, if (practically unknown by comparison) Incitement 3 managed it (though only after several months), then you should have no problem. Other games from here, like Stray Cat Crossing, basically got greenlit in a couple of days.
i'm glad to see this project reborn, i've played the original you released and enjoyed it (bugs and all) i wish you the best and if poss upload a demo when it is ready.
Hey, first of all great game, I've explored around the first town and i really enjoyed it but i hit a snag.
First of all I'm aware that i need the RTP installed and i have it. The only way I've managed to get rid of the "no Rtp" error is to add the line: "FullPackageFlag=1" to the .ini file.
It's all good and dandy till i have to crawl under the bed to find the cat, at that point i get an error that the "Object2" file can not be opened and it is indeed missing from the CharSet folder so i copied it over and moved on.
On the first combat, with the lone snake, i got another error, this time "spear1" was missing. I couldn't find it in the Battle folder so i copied and renamed the "spear" file and guess what: error, "spear2" missing.
Now, I'm no RTP expert but I'd wager that the new RTP on the rpgmakerweb.com site either has different files or the game has some missing files in it.
Any chance you could upload a version that does not require any additional RTP files?
Thanks

That is absolutely what it is. The version uploaded to Rpgmaker.com is the oldest version, and there was a newer update to fix the RTP issue. The new version won't require any RTP.
Good for you that you decided to finish your precious game. :-)

One question: Will the battle system in the final version - assuming it's turn-based - have a (at least optional) wait function? A wait function will probably enlarge your potential circle of customers.
We're (hopefully) going to be using dynRPG to edit the battle system, so I'm not entirely sure how we're going to do it. I'd like to get rid of the action bars and have an enemy phase and player phase for battles, and when each side goes, that counts as a turn.

We'll see how doable this is.

edit: It's not.

Overall
?
Man, this game looks great. Graphics remind me of the old Lunar games.

Just voted for you on greenlight and will be waiting to play the full version on steam once it is released.
Well, I just played the Ara Fell Prologue demo, and it was decent at first, but then I found two (game-breaking?) bugs:

1) After Lita fell into the hole, there's a magic barrier. When I tried to interact the magic barrier a 2nd time (after Lita said the barrier is stupid or something), Lita is stuck and I can't move her at all, nor can I open the main menu.

2) "Cannot open Cred4 file" error. This error occurs after the cutscene where Reamor is talking to Adrian as the group of people are heading back home:

Well, so much for the prologue. I guess the prologue will be included in the final game? If so, gotta fix these bugs first.
