Available June 2nd, 2016!
Steam | Humble | Itch.io*

"Long, long ago, the elven sorcerers cast a spell to save the floating world of Ara Fell from destruction. Instead, they doomed it to fall from the sky. By chance, the fate of the world has been placed in the hands of a young woman. Join her as she and her friends endeavor against all odds to save their homeland, all while the clock ticks ever nearer the final hour..."

Ara Fell combines the best parts of Japanese-style roleplaying games with the best parts of western RPGs, as well as including elements of visual novels and adventure games to create a truly unique experience. Atmosphere, emotion and surprise lie at the forefront of Ara Fell's story, driven by deep and accessible characters, each with his or her own past, their own desires and their own motivations for joining Lita's quest. Relive the golden age of the RPG with a game that both pays homage to the past greats, as well as blazing its own trail.

  • EXPLORATION - Ara Fell is a world meant to be explored! Jump, crawl, swim and even fly through the air to solve puzzles and discover new locations filled with hidden treasure, secrets and adventure! Every corner of Ara Fell is designed with exploration in mind.
  • OPEN WORLD - Most of the world can be explored from the moment you leave Aloria Village, the heroine's home town... provided, of course, you're strong enough. A clever explorer may be able unlock secrets and discover powerful equipment early in the game if he or she commits to taking advantage of the open nature of the game world.
  • TACTICAL COMBAT - Ara Fell may be a story-heavy game, but the world is still fraught with danger. Choose specialized equipment and statistics, customizing each character to best suit your play style, and to best thwart each boss battle's unique mechanics.
  • CHARACTER DRIVEN - When you join Ara Fell's unwitting heroine on her quest to save her homeland, you'll discover a world filled with vibrant characters who laugh, cry, crack jokes, lose their tempers, and even their will to go on as the size and scope of the curse that plagues Ara Fell becomes apparent. Friends and villains alike are not who they seem as the stakes grow ever higher...

Just Kidding! Ara Fell epilogue is available now on Steam. Also DPad support!

We were going to release it after some testing at the end of the month, but testing went smoothly and we decided to just go for it. Enjoy!

EPILOGUE

By popular request, I've added an epilogue to the end of Ara Fell as a free update. This brief addition will hopefully make for a much more satisfying ending, and give closure to those who felt the original ending was lacking in that area.

There are two ways you can access it.

1) You can defeat the final boss, view the original ending, and then stick around for the epilogue. A save game right before the fight with story mode enabled is provided below. If you're coming back just to view the epilogue, I recommend viewing the original ending again along with it!

END GAME SAVE WITH STORY MODE ENABLED

Just drop this into your Ara Fell Folder and rename it to Save0X.lsd, where X is a number. This is the default path, but yours may vary. C:\Program Files\Steam (x86)\SteamApps\Common\Ara Fell

2) or you can jump right into the epilogue by pressing the ESC or gamepad B key several times (about 5 or 6) on the title menu. This will bring up an option asking if you'd like to view the epilogue.

NOTE: If you're deciding to give this another playthrough, be advised that the transition from the end of the game to starting a new game hasn't been fully tested yet... the code is without error and should work, but the engine is finnicky sometimes, and I'm worried it might skip over parts of it...

D-PAD SUPPORT / VOLUME CONTROL

D-pad support should now be enabled for most gamepads. You may need to make sure the gamepad is powered on prior to starting the game in order for it to work.

For volume control, you can adjust this by selecting "Settings" on the title screen, by using the "UTILITY: Options" item in your inventory or by pressing the F5 key on your keyboard. This will bring up the usual video options, with a new button on the right to adjust volume.

BUG FIXES / BALANCE CHANGES / COLORBLIND MODE

A variety of small tweaks and fixes have been applied to the game; too many to list here, but nothing major. Thanks to everyone who took the time to point out some of these issues!

We've also included a colorblind mode in this update, which addresses a few issues colorblind people may run into, including updated an keyboard guide which can be accessed via the UTILITIES: Information item, as well as altering the color puzzle in the Ruins of Arei.

FALSE POSITIVES FOR ANTIVIRUS SOFTWARE

It seems RPG_RT.exe may bring up false positives for some overzealous anti-virus software. We've tested this thoroughly and are confident that there are no issues, but as always, we can't be 100% sure... Please let us know if you get any anti-virus hits and we'll continue looking into this. Thanks!

Lastly, please leave a review if you're so inclined! I've said this many times before, but it's worth repeating... we worked really hard on this game, but it's often difficult to get taken seriously on a big market like Steam. Every review makes us seem more legitimate, and even brief reviews are helpful! And besides that, we love reading them.

Okay, thanks everyone! As always, let us know if you run into any issues. Have fun!

I remember seeing this on r/rpgmaker and being blown away. Will definitely pick up soon.
Awesome, I'm glad! If you get a chance, please leave us a little review on Steam or RMN or both! They really help with exposure.

I think Ara Fell will be the next game I LP after I'm done with Dragon Fantasy.
Will do it, for sure! I did not play a lot still, just won the shooting prize.
@Trihan, awesome! Definitely let me know when you do that!

@VicWhite Thanks! Don't feel obligated or anything, but if you do get a chance, that would be great!
Thanks ^^

Well I liked the game so far, I am loving the pixel art and the story concept. It got my attention on Steam before I watch it on the forums. And I come from the book world which means I am sensitive to the importance of a review.

I just need to finish the game first! haha
I've seen this game on youtube before, I didn't realize it was made in RPG Maker... This is freaking impressive. O.o
I've rescued Seri Kesu and now I'm well and truly stuck. Sorry, but I can't find the spoiler button and the usual code doesn't seem to work for me.

I have found 4 paintings, 5 prophecy fragments and one key. I used the key on the first door, pressed the 2 blue switches so that the pillars went down, but now cannot find any other keys. I have wandered around for ages, gone up a few levels in the process, and cannot think what else to do.
Thanks.
And I'm really enjoying the game - until now, when frustration is setting in.

EDIT
As so often happens, 10 minutes after posting, I've got the lot. On we go, then.
lol, isn't that the way it always happens? Glad you figured it out, and also that you're enjoying it!
Hi, I finished this, and enjoyed myself.

Just reporting a few things you might want to look at if you do an update.

  • Because I spent a bit of time leveling up around Springs before going up to Miranda, I discovered that a couple of enemy sprites occasionally simply vanished if you interacted with them. No battle or anything, just gone. The 2 most common were the one immediately east of the town, near the junction of the path going up to the castle, and one a little to the south of it. There might have been others, but I didn't specifically notice. It was always with white cats, the other sprite never did this.

  • I am fairly sure that I had 11 of the wings needed for the poison cure. However, Hannah took the lot instead of just 10. In itself no big deal, but if the player has fought extra battles to get some for sale, it seems a pity to just lose them.

  • The transfer event north from the first map after Orlion (Dian's Gully?) that brings you to a narrow bridge has the sprite facing down instead of up.

  • During the fight with the octopus, Lita moved position in the battle HUD from 1st to 4th position.

  • Because I wasn't sure if going to the Holy Land would seal off any chance of completing the final 2 bounties, I went to Silvara before going there. The NPCs were already talking about a man in blue going up to the temple, even though that hadn't happened yet in the story. Maybe a switch on the dialogue?

Thanks for a great game.

I went back to the Octopus fight to see if I could recreate the place switching. Instead, I got the following error message

A description violation of address 0000000C occurred in address
004B2D36 of module 'RPG_RT.exe'

On the next attempt, one party member was grabbed into a tentacle, so it couldn't just be that, unless there are specific circumstances where that action would generate this crash.
Well I loved the game but I hated the ending, it left too many questions unanswered, I hope u can answer them
1-what is the fate of the elves, did they survive baramon's attack or no ?
2-will arafell vanish after falling to the ground ?
3-are there any vampires remaining ? or Nash was the last ?
4-the whole thing with lita and adrian ?
by the way, is it getting a sequel or sth ?
Edit: This comment originally contained spoilers for the epilogue when I wasn't planning to make one, but now that I have, I've edited out the info.
Thank you, I'm glad!

If you get the inclination, please leave a little review on Steam (if you bought it there) or here on RMN. We're still struggling to be taken seriously and every review makes us seem more legitimate.

We're still struggling to be taken seriously

How so? It isn't because you made this in 2k3, is it?
To put BadLuck's concerns into perspective: I don't recall any other RPG Maker JRPGs comparable to Ara Fell that received nearly as much (positive) reviews on Steam as Ara Fell did - apart from Skyborn maybe.
>How so? It isn't because you made this in 2k3, is it?

And that we use a lot of free-to-use graphics, I think.

> I don't recall any other RPG Maker JRPGs comparable to Ara Fell that received nearly as much (positive) reviews on Steam as Ara Fell did - apart from Skyborn maybe.

I was very concerned that the various flaws in RM2k3 would sink us. I was ecstatic to see us above 80% positive on Steam, let alone currently sitting at 94%
Common steam users don't even know the difference between RPG Maker VX Ace or RPG Maker 2003. They might recognize the graphics to be "stock rpg" seen in other games but not everyone on steam does their research or are informed on DIY makers. We complain about rm2k3 constantly and know all the ins and outs of the limitations by now but like, it's still an above average SNES RPG system to most common people.

I can def see the stigma around games with RPG Maker somewhere in the description as a detriment, but still. What I find about the steam user base is that the people making reviews/commenting are generally the same kind of people seeking out indie RPGs without really caring what engine they're in. It does make me appreciate and understand what kind of mini ecosystems Steam is trying to foster, although specific niches like this aren't really able to sustain every game they overlap. Ontop of all this it really just comes down to marketing which sadly requires a crapton of money and a bit of luck.
