Available June 2nd, 2016!

"Long, long ago, the elven sorcerers cast a spell to save the floating world of Ara Fell from destruction. Instead, they doomed it to fall from the sky. By chance, the fate of the world has been placed in the hands of a young woman. Join her as she and her friends endeavor against all odds to save their homeland, all while the clock ticks ever nearer the final hour..."

Ara Fell combines the best parts of Japanese-style roleplaying games with the best parts of western RPGs, as well as including elements of visual novels and adventure games to create a truly unique experience. Atmosphere, emotion and surprise lie at the forefront of Ara Fell's story, driven by deep and accessible characters, each with his or her own past, their own desires and their own motivations for joining Lita's quest. Relive the golden age of the RPG with a game that both pays homage to the past greats, as well as blazing its own trail.

  • EXPLORATION - Ara Fell is a world meant to be explored! Jump, crawl, swim and even fly through the air to solve puzzles and discover new locations filled with hidden treasure, secrets and adventure! Every corner of Ara Fell is designed with exploration in mind.
  • OPEN WORLD - Most of the world can be explored from the moment you leave Aloria Village, the heroine's home town... provided, of course, you're strong enough. A clever explorer may be able unlock secrets and discover powerful equipment early in the game if he or she commits to taking advantage of the open nature of the game world.
  • TACTICAL COMBAT - Ara Fell may be a story-heavy game, but the world is still fraught with danger. Choose specialized equipment and statistics, customizing each character to best suit your play style, and to best thwart each boss battle's unique mechanics.
  • CHARACTER DRIVEN - When you join Ara Fell's unwitting heroine on her quest to save her homeland, you'll discover a world filled with vibrant characters who laugh, cry, crack jokes, lose their tempers, and even their will to go on as the size and scope of the curse that plagues Ara Fell becomes apparent. Friends and villains alike are not who they seem as the stakes grow ever higher...

Just Kidding! Ara Fell epilogue is available now on Steam. Also DPad support!

We were going to release it after some testing at the end of the month, but testing went smoothly and we decided to just go for it. Enjoy!

EPILOGUE

By popular request, I've added an epilogue to the end of Ara Fell as a free update. This brief addition will hopefully make for a much more satisfying ending, and give closure to those who felt the original ending was lacking in that area.

There are two ways you can access it.

1) You can defeat the final boss, view the original ending, and then stick around for the epilogue. A save game right before the fight with story mode enabled is provided below. If you're coming back just to view the epilogue, I recommend viewing the original ending again along with it!

END GAME SAVE WITH STORY MODE ENABLED

Just drop this into your Ara Fell Folder and rename it to Save0X.lsd, where X is a number. This is the default path, but yours may vary. C:\Program Files\Steam (x86)\SteamApps\Common\Ara Fell

2) or you can jump right into the epilogue by pressing the ESC or gamepad B key several times (about 5 or 6) on the title menu. This will bring up an option asking if you'd like to view the epilogue.

NOTE: If you're deciding to give this another playthrough, be advised that the transition from the end of the game to starting a new game hasn't been fully tested yet... the code is without error and should work, but the engine is finnicky sometimes, and I'm worried it might skip over parts of it...

D-PAD SUPPORT / VOLUME CONTROL

D-pad support should now be enabled for most gamepads. You may need to make sure the gamepad is powered on prior to starting the game in order for it to work.

For volume control, you can adjust this by selecting "Settings" on the title screen, by using the "UTILITY: Options" item in your inventory or by pressing the F5 key on your keyboard. This will bring up the usual video options, with a new button on the right to adjust volume.

BUG FIXES / BALANCE CHANGES / COLORBLIND MODE

A variety of small tweaks and fixes have been applied to the game; too many to list here, but nothing major. Thanks to everyone who took the time to point out some of these issues!

We've also included a colorblind mode in this update, which addresses a few issues colorblind people may run into, including updated an keyboard guide which can be accessed via the UTILITIES: Information item, as well as altering the color puzzle in the Ruins of Arei.

FALSE POSITIVES FOR ANTIVIRUS SOFTWARE

It seems RPG_RT.exe may bring up false positives for some overzealous anti-virus software. We've tested this thoroughly and are confident that there are no issues, but as always, we can't be 100% sure... Please let us know if you get any anti-virus hits and we'll continue looking into this. Thanks!

Lastly, please leave a review if you're so inclined! I've said this many times before, but it's worth repeating... we worked really hard on this game, but it's often difficult to get taken seriously on a big market like Steam. Every review makes us seem more legitimate, and even brief reviews are helpful! And besides that, we love reading them.

Okay, thanks everyone! As always, let us know if you run into any issues. Have fun!

I agree with you, Darken. To my mind, if there are toxic gamers out there, you will find them on Steam. "This game doesn't feature exclusively custom graphics, so it's garbage" and "WTF: x.xx $ for a RPG Maker game?" are two of the most commonly seen statements these people make. You can't win (against) these people. Instead, a developer has to focus on people like me who play (and gladly pay for) every decent RPG Maker (2003) game they can get their hands on. Having played so many JRPGs that have been published here on rpgmaker.net, I still don't take it for granted that a quality classic JRPG can be played for free.

With regards to marketing, Ara Fell was in a unique (albeit well-earned) position compared to other indie RPG Maker games. If users of this community had to name one game on this site they would like to see completed, they usually said "Ara Fell". BadLuck and his team have made the most out of this situation and thus deserve their success. I will undoubtedly rise for a third time and do everything in my power to buy their next game. :)
I'd say fully half the people I've read commenting about the game recognized it as an RPG Maker project, and half of them recognized it as rm2k3. Tons of people added the qualifier "this is great for an RPG Maker game."

I have to think that if it wasn't made in rm2k3 and/or not with free-to-use graphics, a good chunk of the people who instantly dismissed this as an RM game would have been more inclined to give it a shot. Nevermind that much of the video games news media we contacted turned us down explicitly for that reason.

It definitely had a significant impact. Just how significant, I'm not sure, but significant nonetheless.

Unfortunately, I think your assessment is dead on. As much as we all like to beat the "graphics do not a good game make" drum, seeing the same assets over and over again in multiple games will eventually start to wear down prospective players. The Unity engine is also chest deep in that mire of scorn and sinking quickly.

It's like fishing. Visuals are the bait to draw players in, while the game's content is the line. Crappy games with great visuals will get a bunch of bites, but the line will break before the game can reel players in all the way. Eventually fish will begin to recognize the bait and swim away to avoid getting their face impaled, even if you have a strong enough line to reel them in.

Just... don't get too bummed about not being able to catch all the fish.
Making commercial RPGs is... a fishing minigame :O

So meta.
The folks dismissing your game as "just an RPG Maker game" were never a potential sale. And in many instances, these types of players tend to be the most vocal, so i'd like to think there aren't as many of them as it appears.

Everyone is having this problem, not just RM devs. "lol game maker" and "lol unity" are phrases I see all too often these days. And I think if people had a better understanding of how much work goes into making a game, regardless of engine, we wouldn't see nearly as much of it.
>The folks dismissing your game as "just an RPG Maker game" were never a potential sale.

What makes you say that?

>And in many instances, these types of players tend to be the most vocal, so i'd like to think there aren't as many of them as it appears.

That may be true, but it's hard to know to what extent it actually happens. I think the times this was brought up probably is over-represented, you're right. But there's no good way to tell what the hit rate actually is.

Well, that's true, but the instant dismissal because of which engine something wasn't made in certainly isn't spread out evenly across engines. To be fair, it's hard to fault customers for feeling that way about RPG Maker.

Well, perhaps not "never". But if "the game was made in RPG Maker" is among someone's mental checklist of reasons not to buy something, it likely won't be easy to turn that around. Everyone's different, though!
You have to think that you have literally hundreds of options to choose from. Commercial RM games are generally pretty bad (not to mention ugly), with obvious noteable exceptions. I have that reaction to anything published by EA; if I see a cool game but then notice it's made by EA, I just roll my eyes and move on.

That may not be a perfect analogy, but I don't think it implies I won't be easy to turn around. And I think that's more or less true for people who just roll their eyes and walk away from RPG Maker games.
I really enjoyed this game. It's graphics are stunningly beautiful, and the mapping and eventing are top notch. I waited for this game to come out for a while and I was not disappointed. Very well done, and suggest that everyone should pick it up. I only wish the game were longer because I enjoyed it so much :)
Man I just discovered you were working on Era Fell again (well, for three years allready lol). It's great to see you found the time to make a commercial version out of this game!

It brings back real feels to see a game like this being updated. I remember the good old days when we worked on our games side by side and shared screenshots on the forums.

I'm really happy to see you making a commercial succes out of this! Meanwhile I've got three projects on permanent hold and some crappy ones linked to my profile haha.

Just out of curiousity: was it hard to convert your 'original' game to the legal rm2k3 version? And how did you get around using these graphics, weren't they licensed or something?

Hey Trujin! No, it wasn't difficult at all. I just opened it up, clicked "ok" when it asked me to convert it, and started working again.

And thanks for the compliments Owlbear! If you got this on steam, please leave us a review! Feel free to copy/paste it here to RMN as well!
Hello.
Do i need to download some updates if i downloaded the game today?Or is it only for older versions?
Heya! Where'd you download it? If it's from Steam, you're good to go. If it's on itchio or gamejolt, those versions aren't presently up to date.
I'm stuck at the beginning. I bought this on steam. I really cannot find the secret door no matter what. I can see something on the left of the map that looks like it, but I cannot get over there. I am sorry I really cannot find the secret door, and I really want to get farther.
No worries! It's on the flat part of the cave wall on the far right side of that map.
Thank you! So far this game is a lot of fun.
I'm glad you like it! Please leave a little review on Steam if you get the chance!
I've seen ara fell appeared on GOG the enhanched edition which is nice.
Is the engine still in rpg maker 2003?
Do i need 2gb ram if i am on win xp?
Since i only have like 1gb ram.
Also have an android tablet pc with 1gb ram. Or a even better adnroid phone.
Congrats on the Enhanced Edition!
Playing it right now on Steam. It's such a blast to explore areas, loot materials and find secrets.
