Available June 2nd, 2016!
Steam | Humble | Itch.io*

"Long, long ago, the elven sorcerers cast a spell to save the floating world of Ara Fell from destruction. Instead, they doomed it to fall from the sky. By chance, the fate of the world has been placed in the hands of a young woman. Join her as she and her friends endeavor against all odds to save their homeland, all while the clock ticks ever nearer the final hour..."

Ara Fell combines the best parts of Japanese-style roleplaying games with the best parts of western RPGs, as well as including elements of visual novels and adventure games to create a truly unique experience. Atmosphere, emotion and surprise lie at the forefront of Ara Fell's story, driven by deep and accessible characters, each with his or her own past, their own desires and their own motivations for joining Lita's quest. Relive the golden age of the RPG with a game that both pays homage to the past greats, as well as blazing its own trail.

  • EXPLORATION - Ara Fell is a world meant to be explored! Jump, crawl, swim and even fly through the air to solve puzzles and discover new locations filled with hidden treasure, secrets and adventure! Every corner of Ara Fell is designed with exploration in mind.
  • OPEN WORLD - Most of the world can be explored from the moment you leave Aloria Village, the heroine's home town... provided, of course, you're strong enough. A clever explorer may be able unlock secrets and discover powerful equipment early in the game if he or she commits to taking advantage of the open nature of the game world.
  • TACTICAL COMBAT - Ara Fell may be a story-heavy game, but the world is still fraught with danger. Choose specialized equipment and statistics, customizing each character to best suit your play style, and to best thwart each boss battle's unique mechanics.
  • CHARACTER DRIVEN - When you join Ara Fell's unwitting heroine on her quest to save her homeland, you'll discover a world filled with vibrant characters who laugh, cry, crack jokes, lose their tempers, and even their will to go on as the size and scope of the curse that plagues Ara Fell becomes apparent. Friends and villains alike are not who they seem as the stakes grow ever higher...

Just Kidding! Ara Fell epilogue is available now on Steam. Also DPad support!

We were going to release it after some testing at the end of the month, but testing went smoothly and we decided to just go for it. Enjoy!

EPILOGUE

By popular request, I've added an epilogue to the end of Ara Fell as a free update. This brief addition will hopefully make for a much more satisfying ending, and give closure to those who felt the original ending was lacking in that area.

There are two ways you can access it.

1) You can defeat the final boss, view the original ending, and then stick around for the epilogue. A save game right before the fight with story mode enabled is provided below. If you're coming back just to view the epilogue, I recommend viewing the original ending again along with it!

END GAME SAVE WITH STORY MODE ENABLED

Just drop this into your Ara Fell Folder and rename it to Save0X.lsd, where X is a number. This is the default path, but yours may vary. C:\Program Files\Steam (x86)\SteamApps\Common\Ara Fell

2) or you can jump right into the epilogue by pressing the ESC or gamepad B key several times (about 5 or 6) on the title menu. This will bring up an option asking if you'd like to view the epilogue.

NOTE: If you're deciding to give this another playthrough, be advised that the transition from the end of the game to starting a new game hasn't been fully tested yet... the code is without error and should work, but the engine is finnicky sometimes, and I'm worried it might skip over parts of it...

D-PAD SUPPORT / VOLUME CONTROL

D-pad support should now be enabled for most gamepads. You may need to make sure the gamepad is powered on prior to starting the game in order for it to work.

For volume control, you can adjust this by selecting "Settings" on the title screen, by using the "UTILITY: Options" item in your inventory or by pressing the F5 key on your keyboard. This will bring up the usual video options, with a new button on the right to adjust volume.

BUG FIXES / BALANCE CHANGES / COLORBLIND MODE

A variety of small tweaks and fixes have been applied to the game; too many to list here, but nothing major. Thanks to everyone who took the time to point out some of these issues!

We've also included a colorblind mode in this update, which addresses a few issues colorblind people may run into, including updated an keyboard guide which can be accessed via the UTILITIES: Information item, as well as altering the color puzzle in the Ruins of Arei.

FALSE POSITIVES FOR ANTIVIRUS SOFTWARE

It seems RPG_RT.exe may bring up false positives for some overzealous anti-virus software. We've tested this thoroughly and are confident that there are no issues, but as always, we can't be 100% sure... Please let us know if you get any anti-virus hits and we'll continue looking into this. Thanks!

Lastly, please leave a review if you're so inclined! I've said this many times before, but it's worth repeating... we worked really hard on this game, but it's often difficult to get taken seriously on a big market like Steam. Every review makes us seem more legitimate, and even brief reviews are helpful! And besides that, we love reading them.

Okay, thanks everyone! As always, let us know if you run into any issues. Have fun!

@Trihan, awesome! Definitely let me know when you do that!

@VicWhite Thanks! Don't feel obligated or anything, but if you do get a chance, that would be great!
Will do it, for sure! I did not play a lot still, just won the shooting prize.

I think Ara Fell will be the next game I LP after I'm done with Dragon Fantasy.
Awesome, I'm glad! If you get a chance, please leave us a little review on Steam or RMN or both! They really help with exposure.
I remember seeing this on r/rpgmaker and being blown away. Will definitely pick up soon.
This is a great game :D
You do need walkthrough but it's great.
I wish I would side along with the Vampires though
Thanks, Addit~

I think I have leveled up from all the experience in AF... XD
Well hopefully you guys manage to do so. You can’t have Ara Fell be your only success and then crash and burn soon afterwards. That’d be horrible, lol.
Thanks! Very flattering, Addit.

Incidentally, Caladium and I are trying to outdo Ara Fell as we speak.
…Well it’s about f**king time that this game got the featured treatment, hahaha – yes! (And it even has that cool animated background effect too.)

Congratulations, Ara Fell, Badluck and company for not only fully completing this sucker after almost being left for dead for so many years but also getting featured and becoming the very first commercialized game to be featured here on RMN! That’s quite the accomplishment, and it will forever go down in history (...or at least until Kentona manages to blow up the site or hits the reset button, lol).

I’ve been trying to feature this game on here for so very long, and it’s about bloody time that it finally does. Ara Fell is not only a classic but one of the best games made on 2k3 on here over the years. This is a very proud moment for us all.

Graphically, this is as good as it gets for RM2K3.

Never say never, my friend. You just never know what 2k3 is still capable of.
thanks for the kind words, Jparker

Okay, just finished this game.

Overall, I am kind of disappointed with the ending. Felt anti-climatic and rushed. The final boss is anti-climatic too for all he's worth.

In the end, I should have known Ara Fell would fall to the ground because of its name. That still felt like it came out of nowhere now, because there wasn't any real development leading to that.

Anyway, here are my "goods" and "bads" of this game:

Good:
- Nice title screen
- Like the leveling up of characters (stat increment and such)
- Story as a whole is decent, save the ending.
- Decent music, though it felt repetitive at times.
- Great level design (this is probably the game's strongest point)

Not so good:
- Gameplay was too easy, especially as the game progresses. Would have preferred a Hard Mode.
- Would have preferred that there are actually cutscenes of flashbacks, which this game seriously needed.

Bad:
- Many strange wordings, grammatical and spelling mistakes especially in the 2nd half of the game (makes one wonder if the testers actually tested the game properly. I would have overlooked this if this isn't a commercial game. But this is a commercial game, and so I would be stricter when it comes to commercial games)
- A number of minor bugs (for example, there are some guards in some buildings like in Castle Atana and the tower at Apple Orchard who weren't stoned when the Stone Curse is activated)
- Anti-climatic final boss and ending. Ending felt pretty rushed too.

If I would rate this, I would give it a 3/5. Sorry, but while I did enjoy the game to some extent, it doesn't really blow me away in the end. And this is coming from someone who has played the old Ara Fell (yes, I was from that era).

Still, this is a game that I would encourage people to play, though it doesn't deserve to be at a price of US$9.99. Buy this only when it's at a large discount (probably 50% or more discount).

That being said, I expect a lot more from the creator's next game, Rise of the Third Power. The creator should seriously hire testers who can actually work on the proofreading.

Anyway, I've just uploaded a video of the final boss battle + ending here. It should be up anytime soon pending moderator's approval, so for those who have completed the game, enjoy my video when it is uploaded here and see just how I pretty much overwhelmed the final boss :)

I probably might post this as a review later, but I wanted to just get this out as a comment first.

You'd see the irony in this if you could see all of the spelling/grammar cards I made on the Trello board. :P Unfortunately I only had the time to test the first half. :(
"Many strange wordings,"

Is it in poor taste to playfully point out the irony?

edit: Also, you ought to post that as an actual review on RMN!
@Corfaisus:

Yeah, I get what you mean, and I'm all for endings with despair. It depends on how well it's executed, though, and so my problem with it is that it just kind of came out of nowhere.

It's probably just me that I didn't see it coming though now that I think about it (with the deaths of the 3 elves, the title? and whatnot), but still, I feel that more could have been developed to show the despair that eventually leads to this. From what I see, the ending just feels so sudden that it just doesn't seem believable to me.

Besides, most of the story doesn't give me the vibe that this is going to be a dark game. Rather, it mainly gives the light-hearted feel of a heroine who's destined to save the world against her will and out of dumb luck, and so for Asari to suddenly say that the Sunstone is not meant to be saved and that Ara Fell is not meant to stay in the sky forever kind of confused me, because I seriously don't know where that even came from unless I'm missing something.

Harsh.

And I just watched your final boss + ending video.

I love it. It hurts, it hurts so bad, but I love it. It's the kind of ending we need more of in these games; the no holds barred, kick in the teeth, despair everywhere you look because, when it comes down to it, you can't expect to get your way ending.

Finally got around to playing this last night, and ah, the memories...

1st boss battle, died 1st time, tweaked my strategy a little and won. I like the game's challenge so far.

Here's looking forward to more :)

Unfortunately, we don't have a good way to translate the game at this time. We're hoping the folks over at EasyRPG can create a way to export all the text in the game for translation, but that's not something we're currently capable of.

If you need a good tool to extract the text for translation, there's this: http://rpgmakertrans.bitbucket.org/

It supports all RPG Maker engines except MV and has been pretty handy for me so far when it comes to translation :)
