Available June 2nd, 2016!
Steam | Humble | Itch.io*

"Long, long ago, the elven sorcerers cast a spell to save the floating world of Ara Fell from destruction. Instead, they doomed it to fall from the sky. By chance, the fate of the world has been placed in the hands of a young woman. Join her as she and her friends endeavor against all odds to save their homeland, all while the clock ticks ever nearer the final hour..."

Ara Fell combines the best parts of Japanese-style roleplaying games with the best parts of western RPGs, as well as including elements of visual novels and adventure games to create a truly unique experience. Atmosphere, emotion and surprise lie at the forefront of Ara Fell's story, driven by deep and accessible characters, each with his or her own past, their own desires and their own motivations for joining Lita's quest. Relive the golden age of the RPG with a game that both pays homage to the past greats, as well as blazing its own trail.

  • EXPLORATION - Ara Fell is a world meant to be explored! Jump, crawl, swim and even fly through the air to solve puzzles and discover new locations filled with hidden treasure, secrets and adventure! Every corner of Ara Fell is designed with exploration in mind.
  • OPEN WORLD - Most of the world can be explored from the moment you leave Aloria Village, the heroine's home town... provided, of course, you're strong enough. A clever explorer may be able unlock secrets and discover powerful equipment early in the game if he or she commits to taking advantage of the open nature of the game world.
  • TACTICAL COMBAT - Ara Fell may be a story-heavy game, but the world is still fraught with danger. Choose specialized equipment and statistics, customizing each character to best suit your play style, and to best thwart each boss battle's unique mechanics.
  • CHARACTER DRIVEN - When you join Ara Fell's unwitting heroine on her quest to save her homeland, you'll discover a world filled with vibrant characters who laugh, cry, crack jokes, lose their tempers, and even their will to go on as the size and scope of the curse that plagues Ara Fell becomes apparent. Friends and villains alike are not who they seem as the stakes grow ever higher...

Just Kidding! Ara Fell epilogue is available now on Steam. Also DPad support!

We were going to release it after some testing at the end of the month, but testing went smoothly and we decided to just go for it. Enjoy!

EPILOGUE

By popular request, I've added an epilogue to the end of Ara Fell as a free update. This brief addition will hopefully make for a much more satisfying ending, and give closure to those who felt the original ending was lacking in that area.

There are two ways you can access it.

1) You can defeat the final boss, view the original ending, and then stick around for the epilogue. A save game right before the fight with story mode enabled is provided below. If you're coming back just to view the epilogue, I recommend viewing the original ending again along with it!

END GAME SAVE WITH STORY MODE ENABLED

Just drop this into your Ara Fell Folder and rename it to Save0X.lsd, where X is a number. This is the default path, but yours may vary. C:\Program Files\Steam (x86)\SteamApps\Common\Ara Fell

2) or you can jump right into the epilogue by pressing the ESC or gamepad B key several times (about 5 or 6) on the title menu. This will bring up an option asking if you'd like to view the epilogue.

NOTE: If you're deciding to give this another playthrough, be advised that the transition from the end of the game to starting a new game hasn't been fully tested yet... the code is without error and should work, but the engine is finnicky sometimes, and I'm worried it might skip over parts of it...

D-PAD SUPPORT / VOLUME CONTROL

D-pad support should now be enabled for most gamepads. You may need to make sure the gamepad is powered on prior to starting the game in order for it to work.

For volume control, you can adjust this by selecting "Settings" on the title screen, by using the "UTILITY: Options" item in your inventory or by pressing the F5 key on your keyboard. This will bring up the usual video options, with a new button on the right to adjust volume.

BUG FIXES / BALANCE CHANGES / COLORBLIND MODE

A variety of small tweaks and fixes have been applied to the game; too many to list here, but nothing major. Thanks to everyone who took the time to point out some of these issues!

We've also included a colorblind mode in this update, which addresses a few issues colorblind people may run into, including updated an keyboard guide which can be accessed via the UTILITIES: Information item, as well as altering the color puzzle in the Ruins of Arei.

FALSE POSITIVES FOR ANTIVIRUS SOFTWARE

It seems RPG_RT.exe may bring up false positives for some overzealous anti-virus software. We've tested this thoroughly and are confident that there are no issues, but as always, we can't be 100% sure... Please let us know if you get any anti-virus hits and we'll continue looking into this. Thanks!

Lastly, please leave a review if you're so inclined! I've said this many times before, but it's worth repeating... we worked really hard on this game, but it's often difficult to get taken seriously on a big market like Steam. Every review makes us seem more legitimate, and even brief reviews are helpful! And besides that, we love reading them.

Okay, thanks everyone! As always, let us know if you run into any issues. Have fun!

Hmm. Maybe I should.

It's more or less the same game, only with new content and features, a redone battle system, rewritten story and a new ending, plus a lot of custom graphics. It's fundamentally the same game, just a much better version of it.

My intention is to update the version that's in here and remove the outdated one.

It's going to be commercial?

<grabs copy of much adored and soon to be gone original version>

It will be. And I promise you'll have no need for the old one once I'm finished.

We shall see, and you know even if the new version is amazing, the buggy sweet game that I have adored for a decade will always have a place on my HD.

Well, this profile is for a free, incomplete, and ten year old version of the game that has a few reviews for the old version. If the new version is going to be commercial I'd suggest leaving this one be and just making a new profile, but it's up to you.

Speaking of reviews, if you're looking for someone to review the new version of Ara Fell when you're done, let me know. I've been looking for something to do for my hundredth review...

I have to admit that I never played the original version. I went ahead and grabbed it :D Best of luck with the new version!
It's good to see you picking this up again, I played the original version, and learned a lot about mapping from you. I'd gladly throw my money at you when this is completed.

Well, you're the submissions manager, so I absolutely respect your opinion on this. If you ever ask me to make a new page in an official capacity, I won't argue with you. But I think revisiting and completing an old project still qualifies it as that same project. I'm not too concerned with the reviews being outdated, as they don't really get into the faults I'm attempting to fix.

Nah, I'm not going to tell you how to use the site or your own game profile. If the old reviews and removing the old version aren't issues for you then that's all fine by me. I'll be looking forward to the finished project in any case.
Looks like I can delete the old version on my own, so I think that should be okay.

And thanks! I'll look forward to your review. Unfortunately, I've probably got probably a few months of this left. I'm down to the last dungeon, reworking the intro, adding the final cutscene (which is going to be a bitch...) a few side dungeons and a few more sidequests, and that should be about it for new content. Everything else is ready.
I actually like her original hair. The remake ponytail doesn't suit her. I like the story, but I dislike the new charsets.

Also, RMN rules state that you must have a free demo onsite, if you're going commercial.
There will be a demo. And I'll leave the current version up until the new release is ready.

As for the pony tail not suiting her... well, fair enough, but that woman in the AFXP screenshots isn't Lita. She's Alaia.
Wow, Ara Fell! Hadn't thought of that game in a while.

I could write a lot about how much I loved this game, but I think this gets my point across: I ran into a game-breaking bug close to the end and I replayed all of it, just so I could see the last parts.

Looking forward to seeing how it ends!

Wait, I thought that her name was “Lily” (...or have I been wrong this whole time???)

Now I’m even more confused…

Originally, the game was going to be like Secret of Mana with an action battle system with 3 characters, 2 of which were AI controlled. Lily (who was later renamed to Alaia when I changed the story) was going to be the magic user of the party, and she was originally a student at the magic academy with a school uniform.

Can't believe a damn cat can be so frustrating :(
I've looked all over, killed bats and snakes but can't leave town
till I find that dern kitty.....

Can I get a little help?? :0
@Linkis

There are three levers in that dungeon with the snakes and bats. Pull all three of them and the place where Lita's cat is hiding will be opened. One of the levers is hidden, and you'll need some bombs and the lantern to find it.

Below is a step-by-step solution.

The first lever (or maybe switches or buttons in this version, I don't remember) is easy to find. It's in the area after you're done swimming. The second is across the bridge that leads south. You'll have to jump up the cliffs to reach it.

For the third, as I said, you'll need bombs and the lantern. Cross the bridge going east to get to a little area with a couple of bats and a rope ladder. Go up the ladder and into the little cave above (I believe you'll need to crawl to enter the cave). The lantern is in that room.

After, crawl again through the entrance to get back to the main area. You'll notice a little crack. Go up to it and press enter to use a bomb. Inside is a puzzle involving 3 buttons or levers. Push the middle and the right button/lever. This will open the way to the last lever you need to pull.

All that for a cat????
Well, I've had mine for 15yrs and I'm still wrapped around her little paw :)

Thanks for the info...
On a side note, I suppose it was mentioned a couple of times a long time ago, but I'll just mention it here.

There is a way to legally defeat the final boss of this game without hacking (final boss isn't meant to be defeated). I'll just stop at that :p

On another side note, there will be no more fights like that in the "Complete" version.

Now that would have been different compared to the original. I wonder how many people, if released, would have appreciated the change or not?

Ehhh…I still like the name Lily better. :P
