Ara Fell is Live!

All right people, it's been one hell of a ride. As of now, Ara Fell is live on Steam, Itchio and Humble Bundle. As people who have been following this game know, I've really done my best to make Ara Fell what it should have been to begin with.

I really want to thank everyone that helped make this possible, from Caladium and Charblar doing art and game design, to all our testers, and even just to people who have left a nice comment. All of it helps. This project wasn't easy to get through and everyone's support for this decade-old project has done so much for my moral. Seriously, thank you guys.

I don't know what a successful launch of Ara Fell will look like, but let's face it... this is an uphill battle. RPG Maker games have a bad reputation for a reason, and we're using a lot of old graphics on top of that. We're going to need all the help we can get to be a success. So, if you want to contribute to that more than buying the game, there are a few things you can do.

1) Buy it on Steam! We're hoping to make the "popular new releases" section on Steam. That'll get us a little more exposure. So while Steam takes a bigger cut than itchio or Humble, steam sales will help us the most right now. Naturally, if you prefer itchio or Humble, don't hesitate to purchase it there. But if it's all the same to you, Steam is the best place for us.

2) Tell your friends about this game! Have a couple of bucks laying around? Buy it for your friends! Every little bit helps, and while I'm not sure Ara Fell is really the kind of game that's going to go viral, the way games do go viral is by telling others.

3) Take the time to review the game, both on RMN and on Steam! So, certainly don't be dishonest in your reviews, but every positive review on Steam is going to help us out. If we can reach a the number and ratio of reviews needed to get "overwhelmingly positive" on Steam, that would really help. And don't discount how much RMN reviews will help too.

4) Write to other websites to cover and review Ara Fell. Convincing bigger sites to notice our little game won't be easy, but if they hear from people telling them it's worth paying attention to, they'll at least take a look. Just getting our foot in the door is all we need.

Well, I'm out of ideas. We've got everything riding on this, so here goes nothing.

And seriously. Thanks again, everyone.

Fortunately, the way I coded Ara Fell's jumping, the main code requires like 3 small changes and then I just need to hunt down where "special" jumps are and redo them.

edit: Oh, and I'm really glad you're enjoying it!
Sounds like a good change, since it does break the flow a bit once I have to leave my controller to jump/crawl. I guess it won't be a quick fix though (you'll probably need to edit thousands of parallel events, unless you'll just need to change a common event or two). Not hard, but just time-consuming (I remember when I had to change thousands of chests in my first game).

Enjoying the game a lot, by the way! I hope sales are going strong for you.

It doesn't, but we're actually working toward that right now.

Originally, I wanted the player to be able to jump at any time, which is why jump is mapped to 1 and crawl is mapped to 3 (something you have to do with rm2k3, unfortunately). Ultimately, being able to jump whenever you like is useless, despite the (admittedly false) sense of freedom it gives you. This is just a relic of the game's first iteration that I was attached to, and I now realize there wasn't a good reason to be.

We've decided to change this so that you can only jump at specific points, and we're remapping crawl to shift. It'll have gamepad support once we do, which should happen later today.
I see okay. Has the game full gamepad support?
Not on the Humble store, but the Itch.io one is DRM free.
Any chance for a DRM-free version on Humble Store?
@WIP - You were the first person I thought of when I decided I'd like to revisit R3P.

@Addit - Thanks so much! Alas, you and Strangeluv and the 2 other people that liked S6 will have to find some way to cope.

@Luchino - I'm glad anything I've done means anything to anyone, honestly. The fact that it means something to a lot of people is amazing.
This game was a huge influence on my level design/aesthetics when I played the old demo. I'm glad its finally completed, and I dream of making a certain (old) game of mine commercial as well. ^^ You've been a good influence to a great many of us, BL, and let's hope the Steam version silences those who hate on RM games.
It’s so hard to believe after all of these years after I first initially played it back on Gaming World, after all that’s happened with the whole Ara Fell XP / First Light fiasco and all those countless nights afterwards wondering “what could have been” FINALLY Ara Fell is f**king completed and you can now experience the whole thing from start to end now. No more cliff-hangers or loose ends still hanging in the wind - this is the real deal!

You guys all deserve a round of applause for finally making this happen and come to fruition. Here’s hoping for some success and some more success to follow.

We had a pretty solid opening day! I think R3P will likely happen at this rate.

Wait, no Starlancer Six?

Addit is sad. :(

Success! I bought it on Steam, will be playing this weekend.

Congratulations, guys, and made props for sticking with this one for so long (never give up, yo!). If it does help, then I will buy it on Steam. I'm sure that the game will be a success, since most people who hate RM games aren't that familiar with the MACK/REFMAP graphics. What's more important than that, however, is the fact that you're good at using the graphics.

Can't wait to try this out! Cheers!
