They said I'd die. They said I'd die and go to heaven.
But no - that was not enough for me. I didn't want to die. I wanted to live.
In my fear of death, I lost sight of myself and everything I held dear. I made the wrong choice and everyone but me paid the price. But now, with all the things I have learned...I would make things right again. I would correct my mistake and return everything to the way it was before. Dear God...I no longer expect to enter heaven's pearly gates. But please, let me ask for one last favor, one final prayer, if You will.

Ten days, God. Let my body hold out for just ten more days, so I can redeem myself...

Visions & Voices is an exploration-based RPG set in the Montfort village. One man, the Wanderer, has decided to brave the village and figure out what is going on - why the people are vanishing, and why those who don't are going insane.

This version is an overhaul of the original release three months prior. While the first version of Visions & Voices was created in three weeks' time, the game has been revisited for an extreme overhaul of the aspect system, progression, story layout and difficulty/balance. New content has been added as well - just in case the superbosses aren't enough, there are several new 'uberbosses' hidden in new dungeons.

Enter the village, if you dare - but who are you do stop the apotheosis of a madman?

Features
-Five to ten hours of exploration-based gameplay
-Recruitable allies to find unique skills for
-Fast active-time battles with a unique personality aspect system for stats
-A dark setting with a story told out in a nontraditional manner
-Difficulty settings and the ability to customize the Wanderer - and even play solo
-Many unique weapons and other pieces of equipment to find, steal and kill for
-Talk to your allies with new conversations every day
-Five distinct endings and intelligent interaction that recognizes your accomplishments

P.S. Full credits are found within the in-game help menu, but a quick shout-out to Mac (tiles/characters), milano_cat (monsters), Danny Schneidemesser (final boss track) and Enu/Mr. Bubble (battle system and translation) is due.

i mean come on do you know how hard it is to fight another battle when all your teamates have little life left, and the food barely does anything. dude great game and story but its just not long enough, and i have to keep going back to the hotel to sleep i knew something bad was happining but i was trying to level up for + i saved before i went to sleep u knwo what that means....yeah i have to start over. make it so that food do better, there is someway you can travel back in time a few days, and that the enemys are from super easy to unbeatable, OMG where te hell is a walkthrough that can be use to beat the game.... i say all you gotta do is ATTACK and thats it. ive played alot of games, and i see how you are tryign to make it on the player with a timeline, but there is no clear way of me knowing that im fighting super hard monster with three people vs 6, i found one miniboss which of course i lost by 100 :(. look find a way to go back in time to give the player a better chance of winning, or a walkthrough cause i din't understand how am i suppose to gain all this stuff in 10 days, without getting own.

simply here what i mean, enemys can be easy or hard at random and can be like 6vs3. the food really doesn't help, 10=2 hours max cause of the teamates being knock out after one or two fights making you SLEEP AND SAVE! then the next day you could lose. and oh yeah clear direction....yes i got all the prohets stuff but once you get them its all over time is ticking and you are losing. p.s. i HAVE to restart now cause i saved one day before i lose and well...what can i do?

Ah yes! And I can not--for the life of me--discover where these "Tombs" or whatever are; the key description tells me that I can use it to unlock a tomb of some sort, but I've yet to come across one! And I think I've searched the place over-and-over around near every corner each and every day thus far (up until the day described above!)

Ephiam, try the southwest area of the village. There's a path that leads to the crypt.
Thanks, I'll give it a look tomorrow.

And god damn, I forgot about the edit button. These things take a little getting used to for me, because I went for so long without the option. >:|
Great game. I played it on the second hardest difficulty. Beating the game wasn't so bad, but some late game dungeons became to hard and I skipped them. If I replay it I will probably choose an easier difficulty to make exploration easier. Normally I chose a harder difficulty after beating a game, not an easier.

Anyway, I made a mage build and maxed both Tenacity and Charisma. It worked out nicely, especially since the main character seems to have very few physically oriented skills. Does that change if I go with say Bravery and Perception instead?

Telia's actions seemed to wiff sometimes. She could use an item and the item would do nothing while still being used up. The same happened to every other action except guarding, which I rarely used except when I selected it by mistake. This problem fixed itself at the final battle, which is a good thing since I forgot to change my party.

Arcane Gift is bugged. If you use it from the menu it won't cost any SF. This means the main character can fully restore everyone's SF after the battle for free.

Anyway, exploring was fun, atmosphere is great and battles are unusually well designed. The latter was mostly due to the game making almost every skill useful.

Well, except for the wiffing/Arcane Gift bug, those were our intentions! Note that one of the "uberportals" ( hard late-game dungeons) has an item that superpowers the final boss - just an idea if you decide it's too easy on your lower-difficulty replay. =D

Thanks for the bug reports. Also, Wanderer's Necrotic skills are mostly magical, while his Radiant skills are mostly physical. Thus, Bravery/Perception builds are better-suited for Wanderer's Radiant polarity.

I'm glad you enjoyed playing the game. =D Which characters did you recruit (big question: did you get Elena)?
I did not even see Elena. I didn't get Alphonse either even though I could have gotten him. I don't know why I didn't recruit him, but I guess I was to used to the shop standing outside the inn and didn't want to change that.

I got all other characters. Sadly, I forgot to actually use Marlowe.

I see if I can find Elena during the next playtrough. That and I'll make a physically oriented build.

Edit: More information about Telia wiffing. Any time she uses her stealing move, the next action will fail unless it's another steal or a guard. If she guard, her "wiff next action" condition will not clear. Another thing I noticed was that when she steals, the enemy will take damage, but the damage will not be displayed.

At least I can predict her wiffes now.
Visions and voices was a well constructed game. I didn't enjoy battling though because it felt more like an annoying hindrance than actual enjoyment. As progression takes place, battles get better but I feel it could put off players at the start.
Right, so I finally got around to finishing this, and I have to say, the acclaim is well-deserved. Despite the fact that the game isn't as dialogue/narrative intensive as some of the other good RPG Maker games out there, the characters are each well-defined and interesting, and the overall plot for the story is equally understandable. Moreover, I was very impressed with the balance of the gameplay (meaning that, unlike a lot of other games, no character was really better than the other, it all depended on the way that the player went through the game). So yeah, awesome game. Though, I did have a question regarding the endings. I know that out of the five possible endings, one is the Telia ending and one is the Elena endings, and another is probably the bad ending if the player doesn't get the Telgium by day ten. Might I ask what the other two endings are (though one of them may just be the solo ending.)
Thanks a bunch for playing, I am glad you enjoyed it. Positive input is always nice! The endings are as follows:

1) Telia ending: You get this by talking to Telia on Day 9 and making the 'proper' choice. Said choice should be pretty obvious.

2) Elena ending: You get this by talkin to Elena on Day 10. You must not have responded positively to Telia on Day 9.

3) Bad ending: Just don't get the Telgium, as you said.

4) Normal ending: This is gotten if you complete the game without getting either Telia or Elena. Similar to Telia or Elena ending but you do not end with either. Honestly, unless you refuse to recruit Telia you are unlikely to get this unless you intentionally set out to do so or don't like talking to the folks in the tavern.

5) Solo ending: You get a special scene with... Somebody. You must complete the game without recruiting anybody (including Telia, yes - refuse her twice during the intro). This is easy enough on the lowest difficulty setting if you are really curious. You just need to get some decent gear to beat D'kothos - Shooting Stars helps, too.

Out of curiosity, which ending(s) did you get, anyway?

Other than that, thanks again for playing. Feel free to provide any more input you have, positive or negative. It will help us with our future projects. Anymore questions you may have are, of course, also welcome.
So far I've only gotten the Telia ending, though in truth I only plan to go for the Elena ending in addition, and MAYBE the Solo ending, just because I'm interested in seeing how absurd the Wanderers' stats will be with the boosts in place (though honestly, I dun think I'm heartless enough to go for it, the thought of Ox dying is quite depressing.)
Last question: Did you intend to make Marlowe as aggravatingly enigmatic as he ended up from the beginning of the project, or did he just turn out that way?

Ah ha, let me know how that goes, especially that solo run if you do indeed go about it. And yes, poor Ox. =)

If you mean the scenes before he joins, yes. If you mean the tavern dialogue, not really. He was one of the people that suffered due to time constraints (the other being Alphonse).

The fun part about Marlowe was that we actually know more about him (and Wanderer, and the Telgium, and etc.) but simply didn't elaborate or put it in.

I gotta say, the random battles were a pain but I really enjoyed the boss battles. Once you got the Wanderer some extra moves (specifically Gifts) you could cycle between his Day/Night mode and keep your allies full up on WP/SF. I preferred buffing the crap out of Ox with Telia and Dison and just pummeling away. The bosses really let me get into a flow and managed to put just the right amount of pressure on me.

Except for d'Kothos, who managed to get like three turns in and wipe out half my party before I could act. I will sheepishly admit that I got antsy and skipped some of the end to get to him >.>

By the way...I apologize for necroposting, but I have a proposition.

Karsuman mentioned a while back (...and by that I mean a year ago...) that he wouldn't mind seeing a walkthrough of this game made by someone else. I have been thinking about making one recently -- more like a detailed reference guide than something for general guidance, though. I'd probably try to list all the chests, their contents (for locked chests), the locations of the portals, day-to-day changes, that sort of thing.

However, with the revision coming up, I doubt it will be necessary, so I'm asking here to gauge people's opinions and see if it's a good idea or not.

Probably a waste of time for such an obscure game. Put that wonderful energy to something more relevant! The indie frontier needs you.
