Bloodstained Hands v5.9.8!

This update has been ready for a while now, but I just never got around to releasing it. Regardless, here it is! Bloodstained Hands v5.9.8!

What's new?
- Added a new encounter mode, and ability to switch between modes
- Added two new Overdrive skills
- Intimidate now affects enemies with queued actions
- Updated some of the more challenging puzzles
- Modified the secret final boss

Here's a full breakdown of the update list, with the reasons behind each update. Spoilers ahead.

So, first and foremost, the encounter mode. A lot of the feedback I've gotten relates to the random encounters, which is a pretty dated system that doesn't hold up as well in the present day, but does have some nostalgic charm. It seems as though avoidable touch encounters are a preferred method for turn based battle systems, and I agree. So, to that end, I've implemented touch encounters similar to a style seen in Villnoire. However, since I personally like the random encounter system, and I'm sure there are lots of other players that do too, I've kept both styles, and added an option in the System menu to toggle which encounter type you currently have active. Now you get to choose! Bait has also been modified to work with either encounter type, and certain dungeons that don't support touch encounters will still have random encounters.

Next, the two new Overdrives. Major spoilers here. So once you get the two ultimate staves, you get access to the skills Fiend and Celestial. While these skills are certainly powerful and useful, they lose their significance once they've been triggered once. They're basically just a stat buff. What happens when you get another Overdrive ready, but you've already used those skills? You're left with the default character signature Overdrives. Well, not anymore. Now, if a character has either Fiend or Celestial already active, their next Overdrive will unlock Abyssus or Aether, respectively. This is a massive Dark or Light spell that targets all enemies and hits three times, all at no MP cost! Definitely powerful, but takes some preparation to truly pull off!

On to the next update, Intimidate. This skill was pretty useless unless your wait mode was set to Full, since it wouldn't affect enemies with queued actions. Now, it does. It will always drain enemy wait gauges if they're not completely full, but now it will also have a chance to cancel a queued enemy action as well. This could be pretty overpowered, but certain enemies will have a better chance at resisting this skill, although no enemy is completely immune.

And finally, the secret final boss! I've made some adjustments to this boss that make it more than just a simple damage sponge. It still has the same hooks it had before, but it also has a new conversion skill that swaps immunities and resistances to Light and Dark magic - for the player. In other words, while this skill is active, healing magic will damage you, but if you're hit with a Light or Dark spell from the boss, you'll be healed. You can cancel this status at any time, but... well, there is an incentive to keep it active on at least one of your party members. I won't say more than that.

Anyway, that's it for this update! I won't be adding any more content to this game, it's officially done now. I will update it if anyone finds a bug or glitch that needs to be fixed, but this is the final update for Bloodstained Hands. I've had this ready for a while now, but I didn't want to release it until I was sure that I was done with the game and that everything worked smoothly. Thank you to everyone who played this game and gave feedback, you've really helped me to become a better developer!

Hi, I think I know what you're talking about, but the spelling and lack of punctuation makes it a bit difficult to interpret. If you're talking about during the mission "The Academy," keep trying. If you fail the last portion (with the red butterfly) more than 5 times, an alternate path will appear. You just need to get past the first two sets of butterflies.

If you're talking about the very last dungeon, the same rule applies. If you fail enough times, an alternate path will appear. Just keep trying until you either succeed or the game gives you another option.

If i die before red ball is gonna reset my fail counter. Is the guide will be complete soon.
In new game plus what will be carried over.

great game by the way os im from canda i not speak french
Your counter will not reset, every time you get hit in the third set of butterflies the counter will increase by 1. I can't remember exactly how many times you need to get hit for the alternate path to open up, but it's somewhere between 5 and 10. I think it's 5 times. I don't think I made it too many.

As for new game plus, all your equipment carries over except for mission items and legendary weapons and armours. Anything you can buy from a shop will carry over, as well as gold and certain mission rewards. Skill levels and party members also carry over, and you can freely swap party members any time after training.

damn it imposibble can you pas me a save before final boss cause my save i been remove from my pc after i reset my pc
Uh... No, I won't do that. Maybe take a break and try again later, it's definitely possible and the alternate route will appear if you fail enough times. Just keep trying. My advice, approach it from the left side. It's quite a bit easier from there.

the final boss is impossible
I'm tempted to simply not reply, to be honest, as I don't want to come across as rude, but I will simply because this site does have rules and guidelines, one of which relates to double posting. If your messages are only a few hours apart without significantly different content, please consider using the EDIT button to adjust the first post. Additionally, you don't need to quote your own post, and the extra spaces in your post is quite unnecessary. Please try to condense your posts if possible, avoid double posting, and pay close attention to spelling to ensure adequate comprehension for the reader.

That said, I'm glad you made it past the flame puzzles, clearly you were able to work that out. As for the final boss, he's very much possible, assuming you're prepared. I'm considering releasing a video of the final boss battle just to give some tips and strategies for beating him, but I haven't decided yet. Keep trying, maybe adjust the battle settings and see if that helps (because I swear, most of the complaints I get about combat can be fixed with that one thing. I can't stress it enough).
How do I enter Sapphane? It appears to be surrounded by mountains with no discernible passes or caves that enter that region.
You'll be able to enter the city when you gain access to a certain vehicle. It's fairly late in the game. Not sure what point you're at, but if you're past the mission "War Meeting," then read ahead.

After the mission "War Meeting," you'll gain access to the airship, which allows you to fly anywhere. You can then land the airship in the field in front of Sapphane and enter the city then.

Hope this helps. I've almost got the story mission guide written up to that point, but I've got everything written and available up to the mission directly before that point. It can be accessed through the tab in the directory on the game page.

EDIT: Aaand, as of now the Story Mission Guide has been updated with everything up to the completion of the mission "War Meeting." Just a bit more now and the guide will be complete!
Just want to announce that the Story Mission Guide is now fully complete! It can be accessed from the directory at the top of the game page. This guide will fully detail how to complete every main mission in the game, as well as detailing where and when to find hidden content, treasures, side-missions, and certain game lore! I've highlighted each of the aforementioned subjects with different colours, so if you've already completed a section and want to know if you missed anything, you can quickly browse through to find exactly what you're looking for. The guide is basically a text walkthrough, so if you're still struggling with something I'll do what I can to help, but see if the guide can help you first, as I may not get back to you right away, especially if it's for something very simple that the guide answers just as effectively.

I am working on a side-mission guide, so keep an eye out for that as well! No idea when I'll fully get around to completing that one, I've got some games on my list that need completing as well, but it is definitely on the way!

Cheers, and happy playing!

EDIT: And as of now, the Side Mission Guide is also complete and can be accessed through the directory! This guide will tell you where to find each side mission, how to complete it, and what rewards you can receive. Most are pretty straight-forward, except for the missions "Exports" and "Death Games." Solutions for both of those missions are included in the Guide.
I just downloaded the game and am looking forward to getting into it. However, the screen size when the game launches is tiny.. I can't find any settings or ways to make the game fullscreen or even just a little bit larger. Can you help?
You can make it full screen by pressing alt and enter at the same time. Also, if you press F1 a menu will open up that gives you more options, one of which is to automatically launch the game in full screen every time.
I noticed some minor bugs on my last playthrough, as well as one major one (although the major one isn't a bug so much as an oversight). The big one is that the boss of Glacio's Throat is way harder than it's supposed to be. It used to be very manageable, but looking at it now I somehow copied the stats of a raid boss into that one without realising it. Kind of explains the feedback I've been getting about a difficulty spike in that area, it was never supposed to be that difficult. Anyway, I'll be releasing an update soon with the fixes.

And while I know I said that I wouldn't be releasing any more game-changing updates, I will include a number of quality-of-life improvements along with the bug fix, just because I never want to waste an update on one little fix. Keep an eye out for it sometime this weekend. This will be update 5.9.1.

EDIT: Due to some rather intensive testing required for these improvements, as well as Misao voting currently taking place, I'll be delaying the release of this update. I just realized this game has a nomination for the "Everlasting Journey" award (thank you for the nomination!) and I don't want to sway the voting with a big update during the voting process, so I'll be releasing the update after the Misao's.

Also just a quick note about some of the latest screenshots I just uploaded. There is a custom forge screen that I heavily modified for the next update. It's not available with the current download, but will be available by the end of the month. Same with the modifications to the system options. Kind of a teaser for what's to come in the next update!
How do I change party members again? Also, level 30 is not sufficient to take on a dragon reliably - they have an insanely high crit rate of ~30%, an evasion rate of ~60% and a single crit could one-shot you if you don't have buffs; and the limit break can wipe out the whole party at once, leaving only those with an elemental resistance alive.

This is quite an epic endgame...

Edit: the black dragon is insane, with ~2000 agility! (I'm not sure what the actual value would be, how often you take a turn vs your agility stat; it gets 6 turns for every 4 on our team). Without any buffs, it does on average a total of 9000 damage to our team during this period, which is more than we can heal. Shroud really helps, it would be impossible to win unless you were level 60+ without it. And it has something like 70000 HP...

Difficulty rating of the game overall so far: 9/10
Difficulty of black dragon boss: 35/10

Is there any way to beat the boss without grinding a ton of levels?
My best suggestion would be to adjust the battle settings in the "System" part of the menu. Setting the wait mode to "Actions" is sufficient to give each party member at least one action for every enemy action. Other than that, the boss has a weakness to Light magic, and is susceptible to the Horrify status silent, which significantly reduces it's damage output temporarily. It is also highly recommended that you go prepared with plenty of healing items, rather than relying on your mage for healing.

And party members can be changed by using the list at the entrance to the Sanctuary.

I will be releasing an update tomorrow that balances some of the combat, it looks like I put in some wrong values and didn't catch the mistake on the last update.
So... I accidentally missed a bug in v5.9.1. It's small, and not at all game breaking, but my meticulousness will not allow me to leave it as is. There's a small bug where the animation for throwing Shuriken is not displayed properly. Instead of a shuriken, it shows the player throwing a weird circle. I've fixed this and updated the download files. Feel free to update if it bothers you, if not, keep playing. The game works fine either way. I also simplified the inventory sorting, so that all weapons and armours are sorted under one category. This makes it so that all categories are visible without having to scroll through them. Just a nitpick, but it's all fixed now. Happy playing!
What a wonderful journey that was. It felt that this game was made with a lot of love and passion. It is beyond me why it is not on any platforms (steam, epic, gog, etc.), it could easily earn some money for the developer of this game. Although, you can't really measure your passion with the amount of $ but it still could help out.

If developer reads the comment section i would like to know one thing. I have finished the game and just started a New Game+ one. In the very beginning of the game in Cyana you can trigger a fight against Gareth and his minions if you equip a sword found on the shelf. I only able to defeat Gareth but his minions always kill me. So i would like to know, what happens if you able to defeat Gareth and his minions in Cyana in the beginning of the game? Do they die after the fight or just flee? If they die, what happens to Marisa in Gareth's castle? We know that Gareth kills her during the first play through but what happens if he is not around? Does she still gets killed by someone or you can actually save her this time?
Hey, thanks for the support! Glad to hear you enjoyed the game! Also super impressed you found that hidden section, unless you found it by reading the story mission guide ;)

As for what happens...
Basically, Gareth and the guards are killed, and instead of joining the Sanctuary, Rain and his family flee to Amethyne. They're never found by Kain, who is then unable to forge the Fiend Staff, and ultimately dies as a result of the tumor. Hypothetically a civil war would ensue, but the world-ending calamity would be completely averted without Mia's unwilling support. Rain and Marisa would likely never meet. It's just a very short cutscene that results in a game-over, but that's the gist of it.

As for how to beat the minions, it's tough. You'll likely need to have brought some diamond weapons from your last playthrough, as well as possibly an All Badge to resist elemental magic. Then focus on killing the mage first, using Shroud to avoid physical damage. It's very difficult, but possible if you want to see the cutscene.

Anyway, thanks for playing! Hope you enjoyed it, and I hope you give New Game Plus a try!
Shout out to user Gari for finding a very obscure bug where Sebastian can rejoin your party between the missions "Bombs Away" and "Vengeance," as well as a bug where the mission log would update every time you collected Niter Powder, even after the mission has been completed. I've fixed the game files and uploaded the new version, although I did not include a fix for if this bug has already occurred, seeing as it is incredibly obscure.

In addition, just for fun, and because I don't like wasting an update, I added a very minor feature where item icons will be displayed in the loot pool at the end of a battle from enemy item drops. The icons are displayed just before the item names.

Thanks Gari for the find! Happy playing!
