she knew that's how it would work out even before they came looking for her, pushing her aside so they could laugh and snort and bump shoulders, making her so young next to their crusted hands and scarred legs and broken teeth.

but orecia was hard too, and she knew that she just wasn't seeing it. orecia had scars of her own, and thick calluses, and

but she knew she would leave. it was in the way she smiled, something far-away in the eye, something on the edge of her tongue but always inhaled, put back for another day. it was the way she cried when she asked her about the knights, and the county.

for a while, it could be avoided. it was as easy as changing subjects, or making a funny face, or grabbing her hand in hers, much softer but growing leaner by the day. it could be avoided by burying her head in her chest, arms tight around her back. it could be avoided.

and then one day, the sun rises and it never sets.

'cross Rivers is a short, atmospheric, narrative-based RPG; follow a young woman just of age as she treks the surrounding woods of Janie's Mill, searching for memories of her estranged older sister. Fight small, fast-paced battles, connect with the waning population of an agricultural hamlet frozen in time by the bureaucracy of a far-off duchy, and explore an understated story of sororal ties and echoes of the past.

Looks interesting. Question? I see a combat screenshot. Will this be more Visual Novel (since you have it flagged as that under genre) with some combat? Or does it have an equal amount of story and battles? Love the tileset and sprites, btw!

i'm shooting for a good mix of both! there are actually only a few required quasi-boss encounters, but i'm including optional smaller battles (like the one shown) to give the player a chance to get a feel for the combat system. story is definitely the focus here though, i'm trying to make sure everything in the game is in service to that end!
I'm all about story. I do the same :-) I'll give this a sub and keep an eye on it. Plan to put out a demo? Target completion date?

thanks so much! i don't have any plans for a demo right now but as things start slotting into place a little more i might drop a quick 20-minute teaser or something similar. ETA on the finished product is still very much up in the air though, i'm pretty busy with school haha
