Meet Dana. She's your average, all-American monster hunter living after an arcane apocalypse. Hired to find missing scavengers who'd entered a haunted house, the huntress fox finds her work cut out for her...

Her world had ended nearly about fifty years ago, still caught in early 2000s stasis. Monsters and magic thought to be fantasy became a waking nightmare for those who survived. Dana, a ranger of the overgrown ruins, fights to protect and avenge such survivors. When a group of friends fail return from a house best left avoided, the investigating vixen discovers the secrets behind their slaughter... and of their eldritch assailant.

This is that story, and these are her problems.

"Keeper of the Fog" is a somewhat non-linear RPG, created for RMN's Commonplace Book event. The prompt was taken from a notebook of HP Lovecraft's, which he had written down various ideas for stories. The entry I was given was: "219. Fog or smoke—assumes shaped under incantations." Guide Dana through the hell house, looking for clues and equipment to confront its ghostly master.

Nice so far BUUUT I noticed a little issue: if you do not skip the starting cutscene the game keeps asking me to skip the scene after I started playing... and I believed I was still in the prologue so I didn't chose to skip but this meant I was not able to save my game or access my equipment (for the rest I could play normally).
I died.
Two times.
Then after dying and restarting the game I decided to skip it and... I could play being able to save and manage the inventory. :D

Damn. I had a feeling that script was going to be a problem. I'll scrub it from the game because honestly, I don't know how to remove it. I wanted to use it because of the dialogue before the final boss, due to the difficulty.

I'd ask for you to hold off until I get the Version 2 files uploaded, which I'm working on right now?

Ooookey, wait let me tell you another issue! The SKIP problem returns after getting the Incantation ability (you know where and after reading what, right?) and if you do that (otherwise no menu, nothing) it crashes. Scrub it, so far I am having fun and I had no problems, combat is challenging but cool, I mean there is strategy involved besides resource management...

I'll wait, yeah no worries! ;)

Alrighty. Version 2 is uploaded. Simply removed the scripts.

I remember where the exact spot is. I thought I'd fixed that, but it seems not; the script uses labels in eventing to tell where you can and can't skip. I am glad that combat actually feels challenging this time, too -- that was one of the big things I wanted for this game.

Yay! I was able to finish it! Funny how I killed the final boss on my first try while other two opponents killed me at least 3 times each (probably because I tried to spare resources)! And the hardest part was... guessing the password! LOL I was sure I found it but I was totally wrong, ahah I even believed the game was broken but nope... I simply guessed the wrong word!
Nice, pity it is short because graphics and music are great, and I'd like to see further adventures. Pretty good anyway!
