Time to walk through some horror

It's kind of funny, but I have to start this review by saying that I felt like I was playing a Doom WAD

Is it though? Nah...

Dememorize is a game made in Unity and it has some pretty neat ideas.
I feel like the devs are big fans of the SCP universe as the disease Neural9 spreads from eye contact, or at the very least seems so. I may be wrong and the authors might have taken inspiration from somewhere else, but the whole setup, with doctors isolating patients and giving them checkups and logfiles, seems very reminiscent of that Universe.

Interestingly enough, you don't play as a doctor or an investigator, but as one of the patients themselves. A girl named Tess who is incarcerated at Ward6 and most of the main characters are other patients as well, it is a most welcome twist and dare I say, quite catchy.

Sound: I found it okay, it wasn't anything special, but it did fit in with the theme. The one thing that bothered me about it was the walking sound, I think it is a little bit too loud and in your face and it tends to get annoying quickly.

The graphics are really good, I can see that a lot of work has been put into them, but they can be hard on the eyes because of all the powerful contrasts and some of the sprites can be quite janky. It is a relief then that the game isn't too long form this perspective.

The gameplay... Well... It is neat, but it is a walking simulator, in fact, there is no danger awaiting for you, or at the very least I haven't found any. The game would have been pretty much the same if it was made in a visual novel style. Speaking of which, many elements of the game, like the keycards walking animation etc... feels very much like doom, even the strafing bonus speed bug is there. Also, please increase the movement speed, it gets boring really fast to walk so slow.

I also liked the fact that the game is split into two actual sections, a third person section and a first person night section. I do think it adds to the immersion. Even if it wasn't necessary, the game tried to do something different and I appreciated it.

The plot... I don't want to spoil to much, but the game explores a few neat concepts about the human mind and alter ego and mental health. It is fairly linear, so don't expect any choices or different endings. Still, it is engaging enough that it kept me invested through the whole experience.

I do think this is a good game... It just needs a few bugfixes and an element of danger to be a great game, but the seed is there.
