I'm not sure what happened, BUT at least I wasn't eaten!

"My Computer Wants To Eat Me?" is a game made by WrathOfWood using RPG Maker MV, and maybe the strangest game I've ever seen made with this engine.
No, not your typical rpgmaker game, this adventure is a first person surreal exploration of the world of dreams.
But let's start from the beginning...

Our protagonist just moved inside a new home and his/her parents brought him/her the old computer. They have to leave soon because there's a curfew (well we do not have a lot of background besides this, let's just say that there is a pandemic in the world), so our protagonist, that cannot sleep, wants to play some games of this old computer.
Problem that there are no disks except the operating system, so what can we do?

Oh but sure, that's logical, since we cannot leave home we'll search for programs... in dreamlands.
No really, that's what happens in this game: visit dreams, find floppy disks and install them on the computer. Easy!

The game is about looking for floppy disks and luckily there are some hints here and there! Maybe that gentle sir over there will help us!

Well, not *that* easy since these are more nightmares than dreams: expect to visit gloomy places like a dark forest, an abandoned subway and a land of comics gone bad where strange beings roam and hands come out from the walls!
For some reason I did not see any HUD or indication of "Sanity" that is the equivalent of energy, once depleted the protagonist will wake up, losing all the progress done inside a level (but not the items collected). From my experience three touches/damages received will means waking up... or were they four? Uhm I do not know, this isn't explained everywhere.

What's explained instead is that we can move around, strafe, run, interact or open the inventory to save (anywhere, anytime!) or use items. Running means going faster but it also depletes Stamina (no indication for this too, but just use that sparingly otherwise you'll tire yourself, being reduced to a very slow movement for a while) that can be also instantly recovered together with Sanity by eating cookies. I remember finding three of them, but no need to use those, I mean you can't really die and the saving freedom helps a lot!

Whoa a game about playing old crappy games on an old computer! That's meta!

So basically you have to go around exploring these trippy landscapes, look for hints, avoid baddies and search for the mysterious floppy disks that you can try on your computer going back (or dying, since you just need to wake up!). There will be also some surprises, and there are also collectibles named "Gemerald" but I've no idea about what happens if you find them all. Maybe they are useful to trigger the Ending 2, since I got the one that is called Ending 1? I don't know!

Anyway once recovered one or more of these disks you can install them on the computer (that is old, and can hold one at the time) and... play! It's funny that one of these games is a sort of parody of a crappy Rpgmaker battle.

Ok, now what I did not like? Beside the absence of a clear Hud and the lack of explanation of commands for the bad games you can play (but this was normal when playing old videogames, you had to check a manual or improvise!) I did not like so much the forest level (that coincidentally was the first one for me) since to complete that you have to go through narrow passages and the enemies sometimes positions them in bottlenecks where you're nearly sure to be hit. That's unfair!
Also the part in which you have to walk on the footbridges I found it easy to fall if you move fast diagonally instead of going slowly step-by-step, and the funny thing is that sometimes I wall and... suddely I was still on the ledge! Weird!

On the other hand I loved the various different tasks, that are varied include a minigame and a chase section. Scenarios and the graphics were also very imaginative and varied, and I liked them a lot. Ok, some creatures encountered look glitchy, but I guess it's done on purpose, instead I really liked the music and the style of the intro scene despite its simplicity, same for the ending sequence.

Play a minigame to get another game!

Final Verdict
This game took me 1 hour to complete, more or less, and overall it was an entertaining experience. I am really impressed that this was made with RPG Maker MV, it's a simple but well made (experimental?) trippy adventure with some memorable moments, even if a bit short and with sine small flaws, but nothing that will deter you from completing the game in a single sitting... on the contrary I was really curious to see what was going to happen next! (even if I guess that for this reason I may have missed something, but ok I can always load an old savegame!). The levels can be completed in any order but for the rest is a linear experience. Oh yes, experience is the right term to define this game, since the story is plain weird and messed up, ok I cannot spoil it, and at the same time I am not sure about what happened, but in any case...
Good job!
