Sneks and Demons is a simple arcade game initially made in two hours in RPG Maker MV. Since then I have expanded it with multiple levels, some of which will devilishly test your spacial awareness.

Sneks - follow you around the map with very weak AI

Demons - patrol from corner to corner much more quickly

Bats - aim themselves at the player and fly in a straight line passing through their location every now and then

Graphics: Vexed (licensed)

Audio: Defrini (Free Music Archive)

Engine: RPG Maker MV

Developer: Ellie for HBGames

Plugins: SomeRandomDude, Galv, Jackell Dragon, Yami, dbchest

You will need a HBGames account (free and simple) to save your high scores, which is the purpose of this game. Otherwise you may submit as Anonymous!

Thanks for 1,000 views!

Cheers for helping this hit 1,000 views - that's 600 more than on its native HBGames. I now have updated the game page to include live high scores and other innovations. You can also play in your browser right here from RPGMaker.net!

My new game, Frogge, is out now - I am just waiting on approval at RPGMaker.net. You can play it here: https://www.arpgmaker.com/resources/sneks-and-demons.356/

Once more this is a live high scores game and that will be implemented on the game page here too when that's up and running.

Once again, thanks for playing!

Who's Amy and why did they steal Ellie's game?

The name Ellie even appears on high scores, and funny thing is, it's not the highest score.
Who is this Ellie person? What are their secret?

Now there's an Amy there too!
You really need to correct the issue with this game when it only gives 98 coins to collect, and then not let you proceed to the next stage because of that. Has happened in the first stage with me for like 5 times (10 in edited) at least, and also once (twice in edited) in third stage. These are the harder stages too from how far I progressed, so it gets frustrating having to redo them. Can't say beyond stage 9 (I reached it only once, but my score didn't register because you can only push blocks and not pull, maybe do something about that too.) Other than that, it's been fun.
Edit: Okay, I made it all the way to Batslide and cleared it. Except I got a game over. Also, I think my coins got deducted for using the reset puzzle in stage 9, which I wasn't expecting.
Edit II: Okay, never mind about the game over, didn't realize that was stage 11 and it had a special rule. I thought it's the credits, and just clicked exit. And there's stage 12 too now that I checked it out too from the start menu. I do think there should be an exit button in stage 9 too, as it's possible to get trapped without making it to the reset for first-timers particularly. I was checking if that one box on the right has any coins under it and then I got trapped.
Edit III: Okay, I took a break for like 3 hours and managed to make it to stage 11 now, which seems quite hard to clear. Could only catch half the coins.
Edit IV: ... Practicing it separately, it's actually easier than I thought. Though the last stage is less tricky to get.

Bloody hell - thank you very much for your dedication and your more than valued feedback!

You've got far further through the game than I have ever managed, and yes, stages 1 and 3 are definitely the most difficult. 3 actually has a trick to it but I won't spoil that. 1 I have posted a walkthrough for above somewhere (might be in Blog).

Stage 9 I have added an escape for.

Stage 11 - it has at least one ideal-run which I use every time. Although it takes a bit of time it's my go-to starting level now as it's guaranteed to work once you find the line. Until then it is the most frustrating!

Missing coins: I am doing some testing and cannot work out what is going wrong there. For now I have reduced the threshold by 1 for those levels but I am not sure if that is the cause or if the event is not triggering.

I have been working on a stage 13 but for the life of me I can't work out if it is actually completable. I have removed it from the round robin but I have added it to the menu for folk to play around with.

Thank you very much for all your time - I do not think that score will be beaten for a long, long time!

No problem! It was fun.

Oh, I saw it! I am not sure if the other trick I use often is intended to be used but basically,

I stop moving if I run into anything until they change their course. That way, they just pass through and don't do anything. It's hardest with the snakes but doable and I'm not sure if it can be done with the red dragon in stage 3, as I got caught both times I tried it. (Now I just do that part before it comes out.) It's doable with the cyan one later though. I noticed it first in stage 3, and thought maybe it was because the corners are difficult to collect coins from as the bats come towards you a lot. But turns out it was applicable everywhere else too. Is it intended?

By the way, for the exit button, I meant in Snekoban, not Little Boxes! Though I did wonder if it's possible to get stuck there too if you push the boxes around in corners too much without collecting coins first, so that's probably needed too. Was extra-conscious moving around there in case that happens.

I love Stage 11 now, haha. It's almost impossible to mess it up once you get the solution. Stage 12 can still be a bit risky in comparison even if you know how to solve it but it's easy enough.

Missing coins now let us go to the next stage, thanks for that! Though it'd be even better if there's not a missing coin, haha.

About that, I tried the new level separately a while ago, but it opened Living Rooom II again. I managed to clear stage 12 from the start later too, but instead of leading to that level, it led to Stage 1 again. (And I made a mistake and had to use the reset switch once even though I thought I'd not make it this time... so that's 25 points lost, alas. Much less than the first time but yeah. I did make sure to get more than 25 coins on reaching stage 1 again, but yeah, haha.)

Thank you for making the game! - Oh, that would be great esp. now that it's even higher! Haha.

Edit: Okay, so Ice Cavern can also have a missing coin.
Edit II: Got the high score without losing coins from the reset. Ran into the Ice Cavern missing coin once again.
Edit III: Missing coin issue is in Oh God Run too apparently.
I suspect the player is managing to obtain a coin before the parallel process resets the counter - will experiment with this tomorrow although it is hard to spawn the fault to test.
Apologies, hopefully that works again now.
