Is your kingdom running low in the money department? Take a leaf out of Queen Amanda's book and begin rounding up all the adventurers. Paying those rewards is a big drain which can be easily fixed by simply making the trade of being an adventurer a crime worth a life sentence in the royal dungeons.

Being rudely awakened by the guards in the royal city of Berylustyr, the white mage, Gary, is issued a quest by her highness, Queen Amanda, to help a mentally disturbed man in a far away village. Along the way, he finds a talkative black mage, and shortly after, a knight and warrior monk join the fray, having taken up a post to find a missing prince, from a notice board at a pub... If this guy is royalty, then why didn't the Queen announce this publicly?

A Queen who's made adventuring a crime, a missing prince, possibly a princess too. Seems a bit like the classic Disney movies, seems like Standard Disney Fare.

A Grim Tale on Steam? Looks awfully similar to Standard Disney Fare.

Hi everyone

Just to inform you that I've uploaded Standard Disney Fare to the Steam Workshop but have given it the different title "A Grim Tale", for obvious reasons.

Just thought I'd say this, so everyone knows that I was the one who did this, and there was no wrongdoing involved.

I have been playing this gaming for a couple of hours now. I seem to be stuck inside the prison. i defeated a boss in the room with the glowing tiles and proceeded until i got to a river with some kind of button on the other side. i could not find any way to cross the river or activate that button so i backtracked and went into the valley. at the end of the valley i found another button but i cant reach it either. i am clueless as to what i am supposed to do. if you have any advise i would greatly appreciate it.

thank you
Hi there

You have to interact with the wall in front of the switch, Gary will then fire an arrow at it. That one across the river will be of use later in the game. Hope this helps.

Thanks, i was trying to click on the button instead of the wall. guess i should've been clicking around the area a little more.
Hi MoonWolfV,
The game blocks on a black screen when I try to sleep in Berylustyr Inn (I keep access to every activated menu options, but cannot quit the inn). Is it a glitch? What do I wrong?
Thank you for your help,

Hi there, I think I know what's wrong. There was a command for the screen to "fade out", but I forgot to include the "fade in" command. I'll test it later on today, but I think this is what the problem was.

Thanks for bringing this up.
I hit an interesting bug in this game too. The part right after the 2 girls join the group, I went up to the ruined keep and got into the boss fight in the dungeon of the keep. I assume one isn't supposed to be able to win that fight, but I did. Got no xp or tales for it, which was disappointing. Even worse, the scene before the fight replayed afterward, and it put me right back in the battle :(
Thanks for the error report, I've fixed it and will be uploading an updated version shortly.
Found another bug! When you reach the town of Kalbany and the events in the camp north of it, the storyline suggests you go to the canyon pass back to Ratirsh (hope I spelled that right) and do a pincer attack on the fort. I found that you can completely ignore that and go to the mines south of Kalbany and the story continues anyway :)
I appreciate the posts, and thanks for playing the game thoroughly. I didn't realise I hadn't blocked access to the mines! I've put up an update which fixes the issue.
Hi MoonWolfV,
I finished your game at level 50+ in 15 hours.
Here are my notes:
- going on the balcony south of the throne room, but not turning back
- Ringing Geode (used to craft Insomnia Ring according to the Crafting List Excel file in the game folder) can be gained from monsters, but doesn't appear in the Item mernu list
- Kalbany: the 2 first houses left and right of the main path are strictly identical
- If I'm not mistaken, pressing ESC key in front of the green crystal make you consume one Camping Kit.
I liked to play your game, but I found the event rate too much high for my taste: you cannot please to everyone!
Yours,
Old Timer
Hi Old Timer

Thanks for your notes. I'm going through them now.

  • The balcony south of the throne room was an idea I had at the beginning, but I never removed the doors leading to it. I've now removed them
  • I can't see why the Ringing Geode wouldn't appear in the item list. According to the database, it's meant to be visible.
  • The houses in Kalbany - It just happened to turn out that way, I don't have too much in the imagination department when it comes to the floor plans. :)
  • The save crystals - I've found out what the problem is. If you cancel out of the menu when interacting with one, it defaults to the option as if you used a camping kit.

I'll be fixing the balcony issue, and the save crystals. Hopefully I'll have the update up sometime tomorrow.

Cheers

Thanks for your quick intervention MoonWolfV!

Sorry, I forgot one minor issue: Calming Ring and Luck Ring have the same crafting recipe (Silver + Fairy Dust). You can add it to your next update!

Level 50+? That's a ton of grinding. I beat the game quite easily at level 37. You got to love the RNG on the encounters, sometimes going 3 steps and battle time, other times going 40+ steps with no battles. Overall a decent game, the crafting was well done, but it really did make the game VERY easy in the mid-game part. (Tactics is very OP).
Another solid game developed by you, MoonWolfV, kudos to you. If you're up for another update, I found some (potential) minor bugs/oversights during my playthrough:

- Is it intended that the "Rainbow Ring" (complete negation of elemental damage), in contrast to the other elemental protection accessories, is listed under "Accessory: Status" instead of "Accessory: Element"? This makes the "Rainbow Ring" kind of obsolete, since I would never unequip an "Opal Ring" (complete status protection), and most times a "Mirror" (reflects enemy spells) is just as good as a "Rainbow Ring" (unless an enemy would be healed by the reflected spell, provided that's even possible in this game).

- I can confirm that the "Ringing Geode" doesn't appear in the inventory when drawn via the "Great Loot" gacha (unlike - not to be confused with - the "Ringing Gem"). Since the "Insomnia Ring" (protects against sleep) is the only crafting item that requires the "Ringing Geode", it's not that much of an issue (ultimately, players will strive to craft "Opal Rings" anyway).

- Gary's skills "Restore-All" and "Rejuvenate-All" - as the names imply - target all party members instead of a single party member (misleading skill descriptions).

- Bob's "Toxic Sludge" skill targets all enemies instead of a single enemy (misleading skill description).

- Bob's "Fissure" skill is supposed to have no effect on flying enemies, but it can damage flying enemies like Bats, Sprites, Hawks etc. nonetheless.

- Sarah's "Shatter Strike" skill should show an DEF down symbol instead of an ATK down symbol.

- Sarah's "Mana Blade" skill doesn't lower MAT at all and MDF only by one tier (all her other debuff skills lower the respective stats by two tiers). Even by using "Mana Blade" successfully in succession, it's not even possible to lower MDF by two tiers.

- Using synthesis services (no matter where) doesn't cost 100 Gold, it suffices that the player is in possession of 100 Gold.

- Berylustyr: It doesn't cost 100 Gold to sleep at the inn, it suffices that the player is in possession of 100 Gold. The innkeeper in Rartish can't be fooled, though.

- When crafting "Gale Shoes", the game says "Gale Sandals" have been crafted.

- "Thunder Block's" item description says "ice" instead of "thunder".

- It's kind of odd that Bob, Sarah and Linda don't join the party at full health (maybe level adjustment plays a role here).

- Rartish inn 2F: After leaving the bed room (but not the floor), it's impossible to reenter the bed room without spending another night at the inn (which isn't dramatic at all, it just doesn't make sense).

- Ruined Keep: During the cutscene before the boss fight, two Bob sprites are present.

- Althanon Gorge - West (first map before entering the fortress): The fight against the Scouts can be skipped, because the trigger doesn't extend to the lower horizontal walking line.

- Kalbany: When leaving the house of the tired woman (first house in the southeastern part), the player is placed outside of the book lovers' house (house in southwestern part).

- When being sent to the world map after watching the cutscene at Kathryn's camp, the "save" command is disabled (which can be fixed by entering and leaving any location).
Hi Singularity, thanks for doing another thorough play-through. I'll fix these bugs over the next day or so.
