Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!! Will I ever win?

Helloooooooo!!!!
And welcome to he review of another short game. Really short, so short that involves three characters that in reality are just two, guess who?
An Astronomer and a Witch. Our alter ego (I call him so since if he dies it's instant game over!) is Noah, the Astrologer, that has to defeat the Past Witch, that in turn is the previous incarnation of his attendant Isabelle (that's why I said that the three characters are in reality just two!) that will help him during the epic duel.
Yes, the game has no long quest, no side activities, almost no exploration (there are just two maps! And only the first one is really interesting). It's just about preparing and facing the Past Witch in deadly combat.

This is not just the plot, but the whole game: we start into Noah's base of operations where he can interact with almost everything, so the player can learn some details about him (like his powers, for example), Isabella and the setting of the game. Cool, but then it's time to enter the second map, where the final confrontation will take place!

Yes. I'll try once again and this time I will succeeed! Mark my words, the Past Witch dies TODAY! Well... mmmaybe!

Since I spoiled the story, what I won't spoil is the combat system, that's the real meat of the game. It's very interesting and fun, there are no items or ways to heal the characters, and it's all about resources management, using attacks, buffs and debuffs, exploiting the abilities of the two characters in a clever way. This is a boss combat, but it's also a multi-phase one, that will provide different problems and opportunities in different moments. Cool!

But wait, there is more! I noticed some differences each time I fought the Past Witch: sometimes Isabelle stayed loyal, other times she rebelled and became the real final boss. Sometimes she survived while Noah was killed, other times she died together with him, leading to different endings. Different actions evolve the plot duing combat in different ways. That's really interesting, but so far I collected a bunch of bad endings. Yeah, combat is really challenging, well I could technically make it easier, BUT I want to win without help, since every time I am getting wiser, I'm learning new strategies, and victory is more and more near...

Well, I suggest you to save your game here, because the menu will let you do several things, besides saving: changing various options about combat, checking the various abilities, and, very important, you can play a tutorial of combat against a simple enemy to test your ability. Well, I admit that I never did that and I tried facing the Past Witch. Several times!

What? WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT??? I mean, look at her health bar! I lost while she has 1 damn hitpoint left! Seriously? This is truly the Dark Souls of Rpgmaker!

... but so far, no luck! Sigh.
Ok, let's end the review here, but not the game, I'm seriously going to try my luck once more. Just one more time.

Final Verdict
There isn't much to say about the visual style or the music of the game: it's pretty much Rtps paradise (I do not know if there are some custom/original parts, maybe the main menu background and the Past Witch's sprites? Well I do not care, it is good), nothing new or original, still all is competently made. I like a lot the setting and the many details that give hints about a larger world, a world I'd like to see in another and hopefully longer game. Yeah, there isn't much to criticize, this is a simple scenario with a great and interesting original combat system. It's cool, very cool for me, probably not a game for everyone due to the difficulty (and lowering it to see the good ending isn't something a TRUE rpgmaker player would do. No, it's glory or death!), and still I do not know if I am failing to learn the final technique since I did not play the tutorial at all. But yeah, I proudly left the Past Witch with a single hit point before dying.
It's something isn't it? I mean, this is THE bossfight!

My suggestion is trying this game at least once, maybe you will find it addictive as I did, maybe not. I'm sure that the rating is somewhere between 4/5 or 3/5, depending on the player's tastes, so this time I will set for 3,5/5.
Try it and post your victory screenshot, I dare you!

Thank you for taking the time to review! I love your review title. ;)

And congratulations on winning - always warms the heart to see persistence paying off. By the way, I like the way you took and captioned screenshots in your review, they're like a cool subplot.

You took a good look around, and I'm glad you enjoyed yourself, even if it was a bit challenging!

You didn't expect I was able to win without lowering the difficulty, don't you?
Ahaha I was so stubborn, but yeah I am pretty sure there are lots of other endings I missed (well at least two depending on some choices), isn't it?

Anyway I do not mind the difficulty, just the shortness because the world building is pretty interesting and the setting is fascinating, but yeah it's a (very) short game. But a quite surprising one, probably some will hate it (for the challenge of course), others will love it!

Cool concept. I'm really looking forward some next entries, a sequel, prequel or something else entirely.
