Today it's bun run time!

Good day!
Oh yes, this review does not have a rating for a simple reason: while the game release is fairly recent, I see that it's not marked as "completed". So I guess it's not completed, also because I cannot proceed further after arriving at a certain level. But it's ok, there is still something we can enjoy here! And I can always edit my review at another time!

This is a RPG Maker MV strategy game by ZeroDigitz, author of the Fear Society series, One of You and Vanish, three adventures I played, and that were all pretty dark and unsettling, unlike Bunny Rush that's a really lighthearted game.

Speaking about this game, let's start with the various options we have: Tutorial explain the basics of this simple game, Soundtracks lets us check the various original musics of the game and Race tracks shows us the various races available (I won't descrive what Options does since it's clear, I guess!).

Selecting New Game actually lets us choose between four options: Start a new career (obviously) to partecipate to the 2022 tournament, load a previously saved game, watch a "movie" that's the story of Ace, a trainer with a white bunny that takes part in the 2020 tournament or make an All Star Race, that is basically making a bet choosing between the two teams: the team of Samantha, the host of Bunny Race League, and the other is the Bunny Race Fangirl that is the one that explain the rules.

The "Movie" option is a looooong cutscene about Ace, a young bunny trainer!

But let's move to the career mode that's the real game: we start selecting our alter ego(s), a trainer and his/her rabbit (both nameless), and this is just a cosmetic choice (and for some reason the save file will only display the first trainer, no matter which one you chose). Then you have to choose the difficulty, that basically determines how is your rabbit - fast and frail is the easiest, indestructible but slow is the hardest. There is the average option, and that's the one I chose in the beginning, and I found the game quite easy. Choosing the hard option instead made the game really very difficult, anyway when playing at medium difficulty the bunny was never injuried... luckily!

So, how the races works? Unlike the title screen with the white tired bunny shows you, the game is all about speed. You have minimal control of the bunny, you just have one button that is the "Bunny Boost" and that's the equivalent of the Nitro Boost in the Fast and the Furious. It has a cooldown (indicated by a bar with the two flags on the lower part of the screen) so using at the right moment is crucial to win. Well, it's the only way to win a race!

The game is all here, really. I expected a bit more, like options to upgrade the rabbit with new abilities (or at least being able to give a name), more challenges and tracks. I played the series of races, then I won the 2022 tournament but that's the end since you have no more races and the 2023 tournament is announced but actually never starts. Pity, because the game was really simple but fun.

I do not think there is much to say about the visuals: they're rather classic but mapping is well done (even if weather and obstacle do not seem to affect the race), the cutscenes are also good and there are some original assets even if in some case there is some dissonance of style between the various sprites. Music are original and good. Again, everything would be better if there was more!

Yes! I used the Bunny Boost and now he's going to win the race!!!

Final Verdict
As a demo, Bunny Rush is pretty good, as a game, it's too short and simple! I liked it, it's cute and fun, even at the hardest difficulty I think it's nearly impossible to win. Medium is easy instead, and that's why I expected more difficult races after winning the 2022 tournament. I also found a bug in the two obstacle courses, where the Bunny Boost bar did not seemed to work as intended (the bar kept being at 100% while the boost effect was displayed, but it effective anyway) and looked like there was no cooldown! Uhm ok.

I wish this idea was developed further and amplied with new challenges and also some more options (and why not, maybe even a storyline). It would make this a really cool and memorable game!
