This is blue! Very blue!

Hello and good day!
Faded Blue is a little nice (demo) game made by Faye with RPG Maker MV.
This is an adventure game with action segments that follows the adventure of Juno, a naive but brave girl that lives in a house floating above ground with her best friend Sunny (a... sun?) and Noot, a penguin.

Life is going well, but Juno has to do some shopping since she's out of berries, and the alternative is starving. And that's not a good option, isn't it?
So she goes to town but it won't be so easy to get some berries, the problem is that after running an errand, on the way back she finds that someone has stolen Sunny's powers and used them to burn her house down! What follows is a series of events and adventures involving angry squirrels, mad kings and so on...

Oh yes... this totally makes sense!

Faded Blue is a linear and comedic story-driven adventure: you fo around, talk to people and get quests. Then you have to talk to Noot, the mighty penguin that will be Juno's mount to reach every locations, because she will have to travel a lot to help people and herself! So far nothing new or original, there are some generic people (noticeable for the "generic" portrait) that provide extra dialogues, but the only ones you really need to read to advance the story, are those with the important Npcs and quest-givers.

The game becomes more interesting when you have to face enemies (and traps and puzzles): the game uses a real-time combat system that incorporates not only the possibility to attack but also to dodge the enemy blows. It's simple, but these instances are quite fast and challenging, luckily if you die you can restart combat from the beginning (or, for traps & puzzles, you start from the last screen, where you failed). So nothing really complex or new, anyway well made, really, even if to survive you have to learn the enemy's patterns of attack and how to avoid them, finding the right time to strike back!

Visually the game is a treat: there are many custom portraits and charsets, the assets for the most part, if not 99% seems original to me (not sure about some effects or the spikes for example), and the final result is a pretty nice world, a sort of faery tale land. The cutscenes complements nicely the rest of the game, I especially find funny the one in which Juno rides the penguin, but there are lots of humorous parts here! The music and sounds instead are in part Rtps from what I've heard, an in part original, in fact most music that comes from www.soundimage.org (Eric Matyas).

AAAAAH! I didn't know that squirrels can be so scary!

Final Verdict
As usual I won't rate this game until it is complete, on the other hand my experience with the demo was pretty good, and I mean at a 4/5 level, in terms of rating.

The only problem is that I was NOT able to complete the game due to a bug: during the fight against the two knights, I was able to kill the Golden (light) Knight and then I was killed by the Silver (dark) Knight . The game restarted the fight with only the Silver (dark) Knight and I was able to defeat him, still the combat music did not stop and the fight did not end! Sadly this means that I end the game here, maybe I should reload a previous savegame and try again, anyway I wasn't able to proceed further.

Aside for this problem I found Faded Blue to be a pretty good game. It's challenging but fair, graphics are beautiful and the story is a comedic fairy tale with many crazy characters involved, really inspired! Well I'll wait this game to be completed because I'm sure it will become a classic!

P.S: all the music (except for one or two pieces) is actually from www.soundimage.org (Eric Matyas), not really from RTP. I just thought I'd add that :D

Fixed. Anyway i'm pretty sure that the music during the bossfights (like the one with the knights) and some sounds *are* rpgmaker Rtps arent' they?
The fast travel animation, as well as the battle against the knights, both use RTP music. The battle against the tree doesn't. Sound effects are for the most part RTP, except for system sounds (cursor, selection, etc.), and some others (creepy SFX used in the burning house scene and the last scene, and perhaps other miscellaneous).

Yeah, it's probably that I saw the travel animation a many times and the knight part for longer that I should that these became so fixed in my mind lol.
Oh the tree fight was pretty short (well it's the first), I just failed a couple of times, but I was able to win after I remembered to check which was the attack key!

This is an amazing, honest and transparent review, and I love it. I really appreciate the time you took to write this review for a simple demo, it means a lot.

Regrettably, the game has a bug on the second battle against the knights, as you are pointing out. For anyone reading, please, if you have a recent savestate, you may as well reload from there, as that battle occurs really close to the ending of the demo. And, I mean, just after that battle you're only two cutscenes away from finishing it.

Faded Blue has a lot of flaws, and that I'm aware of. I am determined to optimize the game experience, add depth and overall just improve the product.

Hey not a problem. I will update the review with a more complete version and including a rating once the full game is released!
