Gracie, Ireus, and Desmond, mage novices from Heartwood Academy, are summoned into the Head Spellcaster's office due to their supposed behavioral problems. They are sent to the Heartwood Basement to do some chores, learn to cooperate, and reflect on themselves, but a little accident whisks them to a mysterious realm reigned by dancing crystals. How exactly are these three troublesome teens going to work together to find their way out?

Update: While you wait for the demo, see the Cast of Characters and the Setting for more in-world info!

This game contains the following:
  • A party of three mages, plus one rat
  • Spell tomes to find, equip, and acquire different spells from
  • Experience Orbs, a system for manually boosting and customizing stats
  • Puzzles to solve, mazes to conquer, and battles to grind
  • A Help Ewe to help you

This game might be for you if:
  • You enjoy solid characterization.
  • You'd like something fresh, simple, and light.
  • You want to easily and quickly complete a game.

This game might not be for you if:
  • It is difficult for you to play with RTP and/or default features.
  • You are sensitive to flashing lights and screens.
  • You struggle with color puzzles and level grinding.
  • You are skiptext-eager.

Coming soon!
While I can't open RPG Maker on my laptop, please enjoy Demo V2.0 (added November 9, 2022).
Update Nov 14, 2022: There is a massive game-breaking bug that the encryption is causing. I have decided to remove the Demo link for the moment.

Known bugs for Demo V2.0 for anyone who downloaded it:
  • The map on the lower-right of Area 2 (the one with the birds) will sometimes lock you out of the whole map and lock you out of the game. Walk down the left side of that ramp and you'll be fine. I currently do not know what works 100% and what doesn't work 100%.
  • The asset decrypter sometimes cannot read the encrypted assets, leading to a bug that occurs rather very frequently and stops the game altogether. I currently do not know of a surefire way to at least minimize how often this bug occurs, but tinkering with the saves in the "www" folder somehow "fixes" it???

Estimated demo runtime: 1-2 hours

Update 2023-09

❧ UPDATE LOG ❧

After a long period of disappointment, I'm back to working on this game.

I'm currently placing emphasis on combating player fatigue, providing player comfort, and implementing the features I actually wanted, before I focus on the game content itself (maps and story line). Hence, the items on my to-do list are my priority, but not necessarily my actual to-do.

IMPLEMENTED UPDATES

  • Improved the in-game menu layout.
People on RMWeb forums like to see some variety, so I caved in to the peer pressure. Aside from that, I wanted to practice coding in JS to help me tinker with the programming side of the game.
  • Changed the Experience Orbs system.
The previous one already worked quite well, but it was very much a newbie's work. I found a plugin that helped me implement a more efficient UI and apply more customization.
  • Improved the battle system.
Actions play out faster. Plugins gave more versatility and widened the range of skills the party can use. Also added equips you can play around with to give the party members some boosts (and nerfs).

TO DO

  • Finalize the Experience Orbs system. ★★★★★
  • Finalize list of skills and abilities. ★★★★★
  • Finalize list and effects of equips. ★★★★
  • Add a "Help" section for the game via Options menu. ★★★★★
  • Look into the possibility of the player manually toggling Save menu access via Options menu. ★★★★★
  • Rework Area 1 to apply more immersion and variety to the tasks. ★★★★★
  • Rework Area 2 to add complexity to the maps. ★★★★★

❧ ACKNOWLEDGEMENT ❧

Thank you for 2900 views!
I cannot believe that I got this many clicks. I feel very embarrassed about my broken/missing demo. I'll try to release a presentable demo - with the intended content of the original demo (Chapters 1 & 2) - in about 6 months or so.

Thank you, my 9 subscribers!
I see you and I appreciate you. I hope I do not disappoint you. If you decide that this game no longer interests you, I will not hold it against you either. Whether it used to be true or still holds true at the present moment, thank you for believing in me.

Nice! Looking forward to the demo. Subbed, so I'll keep an eye out. You had said this is your first game, yeah? I hope you enjoy the game dev process!

Thank you! I used to be a programming student, so it's very fun for me to game dev! (Except I actually managed to break some plugins, so I'm off to an amazing start.)
I saw that a demo had been posted earlier this week, I just haven't had a chance to get around to it. I'll check it out today though!

Thank you! However, I had to pull the demo for the meantime because the asset encryption caused a major game-breaking bug that, somehow, I did not catch while playtesting Demo V2.0. :( I will be sure to upload a new version real soon.
Hoping this is still underway! Haven't seen you around much. Hope life is well and game dev is still something you're wanting to work on.

Hello, friend! This is still something I'm thinking about, for sure, but I do want to do a bit of an overhaul to 1) minimize player fatigue, 2) be more authentic to the vision I have for the story, 3) have more consistency, and 4) recover the progress I lost after a laptop breakdown. Due to real life updates and ongoings, I've been unable to give this project as much attention as I want, but I'm hopeful to give this game an update within the year.
