Random Dungeon was originally created by hamusuta over several years. Support ended in 2010, so we're listing that as the finished date.
Note: Due to how RPG Maker games read image files and how unzipping a file can break it if it has Japanese text in the name, we've changed the images' names to English equivalents. However, possibly due to plugin dependencies, this won't work with some images and the system will throw up errors without the specific Japanese-named images in its folders. These three will be included separately in this game profile to ensure that players are able to download them and rename them with the proper text if necessary.

Story:
Random Dungeon begins without a prelude, an opening, or even anything to get the player introduced.
This was a choice by the original creator, so we avoided changing it.
Now, onto the story...
Within the past twenty years, the Maou, ruler and commander of all monsters, was slain by the outworlder Hagane, and with its death, the world began to change.
People had lived with the ongoing struggle against the monsters for many years, so the end of the war sent ripples across the world.
The monsters that once rampaged out of the dungeons have since stayed within their dens. Humanity now looks inward for new wars.
Nowadays, mercenaries are more common than dungeon-crawling adventurers, but there are still some who would rather hunt for treasure than fight the wars of others.

A result of that is that the once-prosperous villages built around dungeons have lost their main sources of industry.
Random Dungeon is set in one of those dungeon villages, which is called by the name of... Dungeon Village. Well, at least it isn't Broccoli Village..?
Over the years, Dungeon Village has decayed as most of the inhabitants left the frontier for larger cities and better opportunities, but the late chief's heir and her partner have formed a plan to revitalize their hometown...

...although, Random Dungeon isn't quite so serious most of the time. Much of the dialogue is humorous interactions between the characters. Here are some brief introductions to some you'll meet early in the game.

Characters:
You will see that the game begins with three women already in your party.
They are Ananta, Benett, and Shizuna. The former two are the current co-chiefs of Dungeon Village, and the latter is an exceptionally talented but inexperienced sage who
insists on being called a "Priest."
While there isn't any explicit content (or strong focus on romance whatsoever), relationships between women-whether as romantic partners, friends, or family- often serve to drive the plot.

Ananta:
Class: Fighter
A massive woman with pointy ears. She can't use magic at all. She was adopted by the former village chief, who died a few years ago at the age of 150.
Her complex about her inability to cast spells is one of the very few things that can bring down her positive attitude.
She loves collecting items and is working on a gigantic book of every item and piece of equipment she sees.
She calls Benett "Benecchi" and the two have lived together ever since the latter's father passed away.

Benett:
Class: Trickster
The last of an ancient tribe that could trace its lineage back through many famous figures.
Perhaps the true "hero" of the story. Many people they meet consider her to be the leader of Ananta's party.
The most grounded and realistic of the party, although she can get into the swing of the others' silliness at times.
She believes that she needs to maintain an air of elegance, and as a result is hesitant to show her soft side to anyone in public.
She has a bit of a dark outlook due to the tragedy she experienced growing up, but has held on and grown strong with Ananta supporting her.

Shizuna:
Class: Priest
An extremely powerful yet rather airheaded spellcaster. It should suffice to say that she's the lynchpin of the party despite her youth.
She was the tag-along-kid to Ananta and Benett's childhood antics until her family moved to the city of Endymion.
Her family was the first to leave town after the Maou was slain, and it's her return to Dungeon Village that sets off the
plot of Ananta and Benett trying to gather resources from the dungeon to rebuild the village.
She loves cute and girly things, especially short women.

Alisa:
A drifter who wandered into Dungeon Village one day and left just as soon after.

Shizuna's Older Sister:
Humorously, she isn't ever given an actual name. Runs the village store to fuel her scientific research. She's much older than her younger sister.

Rachel:
A one-time adventurer who came to Dungeon Village on a call to agriculture after Shizuna's neighbors decided to leave the village and sell their field.
She loves farming and horticulture, but is far more athletic than one would expect a farmer to be...

Kanadzuchi Fairy (Kana):
A fairy smith who moves into a house on Shizuna's invitation. She's the source of the synthesis feature in this game.
She's also permanently horny for any and all adult women she meets.

Features:

- 80 to 100 hours of gameplay.

- Save point system - you can't save anywhere, but save points are generally just where you need them.

- Random map placement in stretches of dungeon - while any given map will be similar each time you enter, their location in the dungeon will be random.

- Random treasure chests everywhere!

- On-map encounters - not only can you avoid most fights, you should! It isn't that they're difficult, but that you'll soon run out of MP if you fight everything in sight.

- Monster encounters will change according to player level, so grinding can be kept to a minimum. Even if it may seem necessary to some players, there are ways to speed it up.

- A classic front-view battle system - but with Overdrives (Limit Breaks) that are often conferred by a party member's equipment.

- Forgiving loss system - if you get wiped out, you're just kicked out of the dungeon without losing anything whatsoever! Push yourself as far as you can go!

- Over 90 boss fights.

- More than 900 pieces of equipment to mix and match.

- An item guidebook that's automatically populated whenever you find a new item. It displays weapon attributes and armor resistances and status immunities as well.

- Item synthesis.

- Quirky, lovable characters in a normally lighthearted setting that can still shift into darker drama at times.

- Lesbians.

Combat:
Battles at first seem to consist of classic Dragon Quest-style fights that are the RPG Maker default, but have one major difference:
Overdrive skills can be used by both player characters and enemies when the OD gauge is full. The OD gauge carries through between battles, so an important part of any boss fight is coming in fully charged and ready.
Each party member has their own unique Overdrive:

Ananta's Pride Bout increases her Atk, lowers her Def, and puts her into a berserk state for 3 turns after use.

Shizuna's Sacred Spirit Protection reduces the Atk of all allies by a tiny bit, but halves damage from Fire, Ice, Electric, Water, Earth, and Wind elements for 3 turns.

Benett's Deadly Over awakens all unconscious (KO'd) party members via ancient magic but causes them to be in a special confused state after 4 turns pass from their revival.

Damaging Overdrives are found on many weapons, or rarely, armor, but these go with the weapon or armor and can't be learned for the most part.

Learning Skills:
That leads into the next subject. Each party member will be able to learn important skills or spells by equipping certain weapons or armor and defeating a certain number of enemies while equipped.
You can check the progress of any such skill via the AP Viewer in the menu.

Status Resistances:
Armor equipment in this game may have one or more resistances to the classic statuses such as Poison, Sleep, Stun, and more.
Each status can be dangerous in its own way - for example, Poison not only damages but and reduces your stats in this game!
Therefore, you'll want to fix your equipment loadout before each boss so that you won't end up with a party of sleeping, confused, and poisoned lesbians waiting to be beaten up and kicked out of the dungeon.

Elemental Resistances:
There are ten major attributes to concern yourself with: Slashing, Piercing, Blunt, Long Range (LR), Fire, Ice, Electric, Water, Earth, and Wind.

Common enemies will have 1-2 attributes at their disposal unless they're supposed to be mages, but bosses, depending on their placement in the game, tend to have at least 3 and potentially many more attacking attributes.
In contrast, each enemy or boss will only have one or two attributes to which they're more vulnerable.

100 Downloads! Fun links and announcement of next TL project!

We've reached 100 downloads of Random Dungeon -English Version- and to celebrate we've got an announcement and some links to the free music used in Random Dungeon.
First, the free music assets. If you're an RPG Maker user of any version that can still use MIDIs, then this will be especially exciting. If you use MP3 files, then it will be less so, but there are still excellent pieces of music at these sites.
Now, one thing to note is that Random Dungeon's music assets were collected over 13 years ago at the minimum. Therefore, most of the pages hosting them have gone down, and even if they're still up, they're in Japanese. Finding them on the Internet Archive could be difficult without some help, so that's what this is all about.
First, Rengoku Teien, composer of many tracks featured in Random Dungeon and elsewhere, including the famous Final Requiem.

https://web.archive.org/web/20190308141706/http://www.rengoku-teien.com/mp3/pop.html

To use this site, mouse over Music Material to select MP3 or MIDI tracks. There are some tracks only available as MP3 or MIDI. You can also use the sidebar with the list of MP3 or MIDI genres to select which set you want to listen to or download. Make sure you have a pop-up blocker when using the MIDI section, though. For some reason they're set to download themselves automatically. They're just MIDI sequences, so they should be harmless, but it can be a bit surprising to see.
Auto-translating with whatever browser you're using should be enough to explore the genres if you don't know any Japanese at all.

Next, あしなが☆おにいさん (Ashinaga☆Oniisan). Most of the material in Random Dungeon's early game are RTP music or their tracks. They were active up to three years ago, but their original website went down mostly unarchived. Instead, this drive link is to the bulk of their music material, and the rest can be found at their Youtube or Soundcloud pages.

Some other notable artists with music in Random Dungeon:

Cyber Rainforce:

Maoudamashii:

Dragonic Symphony:

We hope you enjoy listening to the music or maybe even using it for your games! There are already some graphics used in Random Dungeon that have been lost to the age of the internet, so we'd hate for any music to vanish as well.

Now, for the announcement! We've been translating 王女様と薔薇の騎士 (The Princess and the Rose Knight) since last week. It's a short, sweet, easy yuri game, complete with a yuri gauge that fills up when you make sapphic dialogue decisions. It's also by the same maker as the SaGa-like Hat World: New Testament, translated by Goburinbro, prime, Sanghelios, and Tenno.
Link here for Hat World: New Testament, since people might look for it anyway. It's the topmost of the three links. https://w.atwiki.jp/newlittleworld/pages/117.html

The Princess and the Rose Knight should be releasing sometime in the next two weeks.

Oh, I'm excited to try this. zakuaku was a charming game so it'll be interesting to see what came before. Thank you for translating!
Thank you so much for translating this game! I saw this error message in the tutorial, which closes the game. Any idea what might be happening? I tried installing the Japanese VX RTP, but it didn't help...

edit: whoops, figured out the problem based on the project summary. never mind!! apologies

edit edit: nope, I pasted in the 3 images you provided in the project summary and it didn't fix this case. it looks like the program is asking for the アナンタ face graphic rather than the character graphic?
I got the same error as YNO. Duplicating Faces/Ananta.png and renaming the copy to アナンタ fixed it, but a few seconds later I got the same error, this time with シズナ. It looks like the tutorial dialogue is calling the original filenames instead of the translated ones.
Of course I screw up the tutorial of all things...
So, what happened was I failed to convert that specific conversation (and one other in the tutorial) to the English-named faces. You're right to copy the faces and change them to their Japanese names, but I've uploaded a new version of the .zip file with those fixed. If you want to use the new file, just copy your save data from one to the other. If you would rather not download the new .zip, then here are some names to copy and make Japanese-named files from:
Ananta ->アナンタ , Shizuna -> シズナ , Benett -> ベネット AiStunned -> ユキメ呆れ気味 AiHappy -> ユキメ喜び , AiShy -> ユキメ照れ , AiSmiling -> ユキメ笑顔 , AiNormal -> ユキメ通常
If anyone encounters any more file errors in the future, please report them to me!
I encountered 4 more file errors.
1. If you try to open the house east of the town (when it's still locked before you get the quest for it).
2. Some event when you sleep at the inn (can't say which because the game crashed).
3. When you beat that Wizard from Adelaide's side quest.
4. In the town hall if you say no to Shizuna when she asks if you need advice.
Strange as this sounds, at level 32, I was unable to rest at the Inn. I advanced to level 33 and voilà, resting at the Inn is restored and it broke into some weird cutscene with the lottery dude and the Bartender.
For what it's worth,
I do enjoy this game and the occasional rare objects that you may find.

Edit: Back at Lvl. 35 and the Inn is jinxed again.
All errors should be fixed. I've added directions to the download page to fix the files if you don't want to re-download it. Just copy and rename as instructed and it should fix it...

Hopefully. I probably spent more time squashing inn-event bugs than anything else in my final check-through of the renamed files, and I still managed to miss at least this one.
The two chests beyond the great door are untranslated. I forced it open, if that makes a difference.

Yeah, that's just the recovery powder item. Anything that you're picking up there isn't staying, since you're
reset to the last save whether you win or lose.

I didn't even know you could open those chests. I thought that forcing it open puts you straight to the
fake-out
final boss for some reason.

I'll fix those if some game-breaking bug pops up, but otherwise it won't be a priority.
I just realized that I upgraded the Wind of Eternity, a boss drop from the first area, into Eternal Fantasy without ever learning its AP skill. Is there any way to get the item/skill without
resetting my whole party's levels to 130?
Got a crash report (postgame spoilers):
I was playing the Back Dungeon fishing minigame when I triggered a "BGM not found" error. It happened at the end of a fishing combo, so I imagine it's the combo-end sound effect. This one is extremely painful since it happens in the dungeon—I lost over an hour of progress, including two boss kills.

Alright! New file uploaded! If you don't feel like downloading it, copy the music file tsuzumi and rename the copy to 鼓

I fixed the bug where that wasn't renamed in the fish minigame and the non-translated text in the chests right before the ominous black dragon fight.

Also, if you want to learn the skill from the Wind of Eternity, the dog in the item shop should sell it. I believe he appears when you upgrade the item storage pouch.

Thank you!
So he does; I didn't think to check. Thanks for the fix!
Hi, I'm kinda stuck. I can't get past the water at 21F... The girl in the house says I need to defeat the enemy at the ice level in the dungeon and that will trigger someone to appear in the community place I think? But I already defeated that boss (the girl in the blue coat) and even collected the bounty for that.. I still cannot proceed.. Is there something else I need to do as well? Am I doing anything wrong?? Plz help!

If nothing's gone wrong on my end, you need to talk to Shizuna in the community center and select the option to buy the house. Next, defeat the boss in there.
Then (you may need to leave the dungeon and come back or rest at the inn) the person should show up at the community center.

Ahh I actually completed all this.. I just had to walk upto the water's edge again and Ai created the bridge to cross to the other side..
I had another question, I kind of missed sleeping at the Inn in the starting few times I returned from the dungeon so I could not watch these cutscenes. I checked the dream place and some of the portals are not activated. Is there anyway I can get these or are they permanently lost?

So, the way that the inn events work is that they're marked off using switches. This results in a sort of checklist, and they can't be checked off without them occurring. If you stay at the inn enough times (may have to fight monsters in between stays?) you should be able to see the older inn events as long as you don't progress and unlock new ones until you're ready.

If you are still missing some older inn events, it may be because you don't have the item from the earlier dungeon to trigger them. Some items, especially those in the second layer and beyond, are painfully rare. The very rarest items don't have events associated with them, but some in the second-rarest tier such as Datewaru's Poem do.

Another possible event trigger you may have missed is using the field. There's a counter of how many times you give and receive items from Rachel, and it's quite important for progressing the game near the end of part 1.
I'm now stuck at the Vampire house. I need the code to input at the door but when I read the notebook the game throws a error and crashes out.. It says it's missing an audio file. I have linked it below, LEt me know if you cannot view the image...

So I've fixed it. If you don't feel like downloading the game again, copy the takumi audio file and rename it takumi雪振る街
