Dug up from the grave.

So I made a really dumb decision and brought this back into production. It's just me making little notes for now and working on some gameplay prototypes in my down time, I'll kick it into gear once I finish my current project. I'm also undecided about going commercial with it or even if it's going to be turn based for that matter. I've been gradually moving away from the RPG genre for the last few years now, don't particularly enjoy making or playing them anymore.

But yeah this is definitely way down the pipeline so don't expect any updates in the near future D:

Thanks NewBlack! I'll have to re-upload with a font installer added in now.
The font itself is Commdore 64 http://www.dafont.com/commodore-64-pixelized.font
Weird, I installed the font and it still doesn't show up in game.

Am I doing something wrong?
I really don't know whats happening here :(

I'll take down the demo and change the font to normal for now.

StarSkipping, I am now playing games guessing how each of the midis are remixed.

Nice work on remixing them though!!! :D :D Loved the street You're Not Alone one.

Oh and this Maybe I'm a Lion one!! Love MIAL mixes.

This game's great so far. Hey, just putting this out there, but if you need art or any pixel help, just send me a PM. I love how this game is panning out so far, and would love to help out if you'd like.

EDIT: Event loop after the Henry boss. >:'C

EDIT2: Review Type Thingamagig:

Nice demo! Presentation was nice, custom graphics are a huge plus. I was kinda looking forward to kicking Lucia's butt though. Glad he's evil. It seems we have similar ideas (such as ruined cities, demons and whatnot- one of my different story, and no time travel).

Characters:
So far Sparrow doesn't really seem like a villain. In the demo, it more or less feels like you'll be playing her for most of the game besides her ridiculously high level. She doesn't really come across as having opposing views to that of anyone else, because it seems like she's fighting to get rid of the demons.
I dunno. It's nice to play as the villain (Vacant Sky did it quite well) but here it feels a little off-putting. I didn't even get to play as Decibel.
Colin seems pretty generic, didn't get much of his personality besides him being a lot more conservative while Sparrow is a go-gettter type. He fit the situations well.
I kinda like the fanboy character a bit better than him though. He seemed to have real issues and problems.
Colin did start to develop near the end, but then END OF DEMO! Heh, is this how people who play my demo feel? Good grief D8.
Gameplay:
It was ok, but it felt ill-balanced at times. For example, the battle against four enemies, the ability to interrupt my ATB bar was a huge kick in the pants. Please remove that :'<. Having to reselect my skills is annoying.
The varied skills and on map abilities were tasty, for lack of a better word. Zero-shifting, C4, and the jumping minigame, all very very cool. Added lots of flavour! The fact there were graphics to match were fantastic, too. More indication of where to go would be handy- the maps are pretty large so you rarely know where you're going besides vague indications such as 'north'.
Graphics:
It's pretty sweet to see original pixel art, and it stands out pretty well too. Though the flow can be worked on (walk sequences are a pain amirite? I can see you've come miles from your first screenshots and it's amazing how quickly you've improved *clap clap*. Plus, each character had emotions and expressions, which was really great too. Your battle animations flow pretty well, though Colin looks like he's rubbing his gun off (sorry, had to be said). Some of the graphics don't match the enviroment too well but I understand the difficulty of working with XP graphics in modern settings. The demon graphics are particularly great- I especially liked that grabby claw! It was a sweet touch!. I'm not too fond of the cloudy overlay on the top and bottom, but it does look nice in some situations. I would suggest, if it's not too much of an issue, to maybe reduce map size a little. The laundry and bedrooms in the building with the claw-thing felt far too large.
You need to do a little work on the menu- it's barely readable right now. The clean, slick look you have going for your message windows- that'd fit the menu nicely! Why don't you try using that? :)
Music:
It was great to hear mainly original tracks! It's too bad I'm so familiar with Final Fantasy themes, or you would've gotten away with the street themes, because they were quite sweetly remixed (still midi though, I assume?). I don't think I was even supposed to recognize the Maybe I'm a Lion in the second one- but I have listened to that track in so many forms and remixes it would be a crime for me not to recognize it.
Besides that, the soundtrack was incredibly fitting! Modern, desolate, and enhanced the mood of the sequences. Though You're Not Alone kinda distracted me.

Yeah. No ratings because it's a demo and I'm not that cruel. I don't think I missed anything- I might've though, it's 3am. Oh. Yeah, needs more items or a way to get items. That'd be sweet :)
Awesome game!

Keep up the good work :)

and btw, I didn`t had any issue with font style.
Damm! Thought I fixed that bit, just walk over the tile that triggered the event and you'll be fine :$

It'll be great for you to help out Kyrsty. But on the one condition that you can get me to help you as well when you need it, otherwise I'll feel guilty.

Edit: Thanks Lyn :D

You can help me by continuing to make this game :) Playing games that have things that interest me or are fun make me want to do cool stuff like that. I get motivation from playing games.

(I am motivation vampire! I draw ze motivation from your gams! mwahaha)

It's unfortunate that this project happens to have the same name as the incomparable Alan Moore's terrifying, terrifying foray into fan fiction/pornography.

Yeah tell me about it! I only learnt about the graphic novel the other week, I'll feel bad for a random passerby downloading thinking it's remake a of Lost Girls and all they get is anime inspired nonsense*. I'm keeping the name though =-=

*Not really inspired by anime... I hate the damm gerne!
You should do a version inspired by the Alan Moore version and hide it away in some horribly complex easter egg.
Could do... But this would be cooler as a april fools joke next year.

StarSkipping "Hey Guys, I'm finally finished!"
RMN "Sounds sweet, lets have a play"
Star :)

Star "So what do you think?"
RMN "All I see is scanned panals from some graphic novel"
RMN "OH MY GAWD... IS THAT...
StarSkipping has now been banned

Yeah, I'll proberly go with your idea NewBlack.
After playing the demo...crap grammar be damned, this looks like it could be fun! Way more effort is put into it than all these VX games I keep seeing around here, I love how the demonic barrier is basically just a brick wall with the face, and Henry...oh man, Henry is what really sold it for me. I so hope there's gonna be more monsters like that.

-Tabris
The barrier was originally planned to have a blood circulationary system streched across it's exterior. E.g Pulsating veins and capillaries, with the C4 being placed upon the Aorta... But I got lazy and plonked a face on it instead, too much effort for one scene.

Monsters meanwhile are only limited to my imagination, if you see a 50ft mutated looking penis wreaking havoc, then you'll know I ran out of ideas.

What the hell are you supposed to do to get past/inside the (first) demon barrier? I completely stalled out at that part and couldn't get any further.
Go to the blue building to the left of colin. Stand on top the Blue animation symbol pointing upwards. Press enter and you should teleport on the the ledge above you.

I left the map and those symbols disappeared. Also I tried that before and nothing happened. There were several blue symbols, I tried to use all of them to no avail.

When I left the map and came back, they were all gone. : (

No offense, StarSkipping, but...the graphics are nice and all but this game is really a frustrating POS in a lot of ways. It's kind of mystifying when so much effort was put into graphics and customization that so little effort was put into presentation (this thing is riddled with typos) or even just having the game WORK (any idea how I should proceed?).
Oh man. To be honest I don't a clue whats happend. I'll take a dive in the maker and see what could of caused the problem and reupload it if I fix it. Thanks for letting me know!

Edit: Yes I agree the presentation is awful, at the time I was in a rush to get a demo out as soon as possible. Your the first person to mention a error with the symbols. Though the general concenus from everyone who gave me feedback was bad grammer and questionable design flaws. I would suggest to redownload the game and start from scratch but then again it'll be a painful process for you to play through to that point again.

Sorry, the above post was a bit harsher than I meant it to be. I meant just now to go back and edit it to soften the tone a bit, but you got to it too fast.

Turns out my last save was from before the symbols disappeared so I've been able to proceed.

I'll have more to say in my review, naturally.

EDIT: Goddamnit the programming in this game is awful. After beating the incredibly annoying Henry the Washing Machine battle on my THIRD try I tried to leave the room, only to somehow trigger the battle AGAIN by stepping in the same general area that triggered it in the first place. Not pleased.

>:(
I remember I took some time to find the teleports. I don't even understand at all why I should go around the buildings rather than just fight the gate, but it's okay.

(btw, if I had to fight that washing machine again, I would've deleted the game)
