Join Malu, Gordon, and others on a mission to find the 77 magi hidden in the Magischolar's Guild. Sixteen adventurers have been commissioned to bring the magi, relics of the ancient sages, back to the great sage Aven. Malu's party must evade traps, monsters, and rival characters to make their way through the labyrinth.

Game features a specialization system, engage-on-touch DBS, and an emphasis on NPC and character interaction. This game is all about the dialogue, so be sure chat up those rivals! There are six different floors and of course, 77 different magi to hunt down. Game length is somewhere between 3 and 8 hours depending on how thorough you want to be.

This game takes a lot of inspiration from the SaGa series (Final Fantasy Legend). The dungeon crawl components were mostly inspired by Gauntlet and Liberty's dungeon crawl, Dungeon Crawl.

Some tips:
- Unless you're very observant and diligent, you will inevitably miss a few magi. Don't sweat it! You don't need to collect them all to beat the game.
- Don't bother grinding. Rank caps at 10 and you'll easily hit that playing through the game.
- If you're low on cash, there's no downside to selling magi you no longer need. ...and monsters hardly drop tons of cash, anyway.
- You can search pretty much everything!
- Save regularly. I know it seems dumb, but you can save wherever, so why not? Although losing most ambush-fights won't lose you the game, it'll cost you some magi.

Current status: Done. Download is being approved.

Finished!

Okay, final release submitted last night was just accepted, so now the game's done, only two years later than it should've taken. That does mean there's some nice stuff in this version. If you've played through the demo, it's worth replaying the first two levels for the most part. Here's why:
- Searching! Everything is searchable now
- Dialogue rewrite in some areas. It's a little more clear what's going on and the ending makes more sense now
- Rebalancing. You're no longer going to gain 80% of your levels in the first two areas, either.

If you'd rather not replay though, save files are mostly compatible. If you want to fix the abilities bug, flip switch 19 and everything should return to normalcy... maybe.

Otherwise, if this is your first play, enjoy yourself, and find those magi! Let me know if there are any bugs and I'll see what I can do. I intend to make a few changes in the next couple days anyway.

K, looking forward to it! : )

(I already started learning 'blank' axe skills with Gordon in the demo, as I've had him using an axe the entire game.)
Well, one of the beta testers reports the game being about six hours total, and he decided to grind a bit for cash to buy armor.

I dumped in a ton of time last night to try and get this presentable for today, so as soon as I get home from work, I can post the full version up finally. If you play using the editor, flip switch #19 entitled " -- Max: Flip This!" and it'll fix your abilities. Just don't count on learning any more axe skills.

The final itself isn't a revolutionary new game or anything, but it's a lot more polished. Stealing actually works, some dialog's been fixed up, the balance is better... And the last 60% of the game is, as expected, 60% of the story. I hope the demo didn't give the wrong impression, but I think it'd be worth it to at least try out the second half of the game before posting a review based on the demo. And thanks for the feedback!

How many more hours will the game be? And yes, I definitely want to keep my save if you can manage it.

The thing is, I *know* I can post a review now. I'm not sure I'll be able to find time to get through another 3 or 5 hours of game and review the full thing. I'm really enjoying it, but I'm also very busy.
The whole game was rebalanced for the final. Gaining a rank now takes a bit more experience so that you'd probably only be rank 5 after clearing level 2. Rank 7 sounds about right for before the rebalance. The game ends at level 2. The stairs lead to absolutely nothing, but in the full version they go down to level 3.

I'd be interested in whatever bugs you come up with, even if I've caught them in the year since the demo went up. I didn't know you were intending to do a review of the demo though... I have literally one battle to make before the final's set to go, so I'll be done either today or tomorrow. The final's also been beta tested myself and two others so hopefully it's more polished than the demo anyway. If you have stuff written up already, I'd hate for it to become irrelevant... There's only one incompatibility in the save files, but it'll only screw up the abilities you get on level up, (ie, none). If you want to wait to review it until you've played the final, I could always take the two minutes to make a save convert event and then you can continue playing. The only real changes in the first two levels are balance, some dialogue changes, and magioscientists -> magischolars.

Man, I really hope you let me get my review in before the final release. I'm catching a LOT of bugs, some of them you might not have caught before.

Oh, by the way, does Rank really cap at 10? I'm at Rank 7 by the end of the second dungeon level, and I've been doing the opposite of grinding, actually avoiding about 60-90% of random encounters by going around them.

Next question...when exactly does the demo end? After clearing absolutely everything I could find on the Edo level and dueling two of the other parties, I found a staircase in the map 'Icy Passage' that it was impossible to go down. Am I missing something, or is that the "end"?

Yeah, I checked in your eventing and in the old demo the item drop was not there.

I know how to do that still, I used to be able to do a bit of the old rm2kation back in the day if you know what I mean.

*blows chapset dust off of fingernails*

BTW, really enjoying the game so far! Sorry to be playing such an old demo so close to the final release.

BUG REPORT (AKA I WANT MY FRUCKING MAGI):

When I defeated the party of enemy adventurers guarding the southern passage on the second level (the party that contains manfred, vanessa, hektor, and miles) I was told I received Ironfist, Silver, Ambient, and Weightless.

I did not, in fact, receive any of those!

False advertising! (You remembered to code in everything except actually giving the player the frickin items. : P )

At first this really confused me because I found the event and it said right there "add/drop item: $a Ironfist x1"

Then I realized that I probably caught the bug over a year ago and the download demo hasn't been updated in forever. Ughhh. I need to get this thing out the door! By this weekend, I swear. Thanks a lot for the bug report, it's specific and helpful and I wish I got more like it.

Then I think the surprise ending will be not-so-surprising.

You had me at the "find the 77 magi" thing (loved FFL2). I'll be waiting for the complete game :)
