Happy 1000 Downloads, DF: Venaitura!

So after three years of being hosted on this site, Dragon Fantasy: Venaitura has at long last acquired 1000~ downloads! So get your party hats on, because celebrations are in order!!!

I remember when I first started development on this game... it initially started out as a sort of cross-over between Dragon Fantasy and Hero's Realm! The main villain was going to be Mephistocles, and he'd be teaming up with Dragon Fantasy's Celes in order to take down our team of heroes.

Yeah... see how that turned out? Ha ha. I scrapped that idea, and decided to make this a new entry into the DF series. Thus I ended up with what we have here.

Yay, Dragon Fantasy is back! :D
So, is this a sequel or a spinoff? Judging by the summary, it looks like a sequel. Anyways, I enjoyed Dragon Fantasy 2 quite a bit, even thought I didn't beat it...I did play it for 6 hours and had some damn fun. Yes! I will be looking forward to this, seeing how your pretty realiable when it comes to finishing your games. I will just bookmark this right now Ephiam! ^^
It's a spinoff, actually, but it still takes place after the happenings in Dragon Fantasy II. It will also be a -lot- shorter than Dragon Fantasy II, too! Bwa ha ha ha.

I need to brand my games... :(

You do make a lot of these, though!

Wasn't Venaitura the final area/boss/something in DFII? I can't quite remember.
Yus. Venaitura was the Final Dungeon in Dragon Fantasy II. It was also the final dungeon of DF1 as well. =B

Wait, what? Why is there no RMN-hosted download link? Looks like I'm not downloading this.
I explained all of that in my post. =P

I'll keep trying, but I've had no luck so far. =/
Downloading now! There is no download on your little game section.
I gave it a fair play, and I'm stuck at the beginning. The stat up items are very much like Final Fantasy Legend, which is good in a being different sort of way. I am stuck at the golden tile. Every enemy is dead, and I have no keys or knowledge of what to do with the golden tile.

Also, is the map music from Donkey Kong Country?
I know! I can NOT get the file uploaed on to the main site for the life of me. I try, but when I do I only manage to get the browser to actually stay connected for about...say...two minutes (enough to give me a sliver of hope) before finally crashing and giving me a connection error page. It happens a LOT around here, and even did it when I wrote up the first comment to post here in response to you. I was pissed when it did not go through. So...yeah. That`s about it.

Also, just go in to the room with the golden tile and push the stone blocks that ar on the floor. Push the Top-right, middle-left, and bottom-right against the wall and you'll get a key. Just note that if you're EVER stuck in the future and there are blocks like those around, chances are that you have to push them.

The music is from Lunar for the Sega CD.

Also, how did you find the opening sequence? Ha ha ha. I thougt it was quite nice. =P
The opening sequence was differently good. It was like watching French mimes in a good way.

The battle and victory musics are really good!

Alright, time to play again.
Awesomesauce. Definitly get back to me when you try more of it. Doesn't seem like it's getting much attention in the discussion topic yet, but it should pop up eventually. =P
It will. It is fun, addictive, and simplistic. I will post a review soon.
Now that I am done with my review, I cannot post it, because there is no main download!!!! Here is the review:

INTRO

The Dragon Fantasy series is back, with the same Dragon Quest graphics, but a brand new design that sets it apart from the other games in the series, if not other RPG 2K3 games.

STORY

The dreaded Dark King is in his battleship Venaitura and you need to stop him. Other than some smattering of brief cut scenes the story is unimportant and it is the gameplay and design that will make this game stand out. Your party of four has stormed this ship (or tower) with a vow to defeat the Dark King.

DESIGN

Dragon Fantasy: Venaitura is a superbly simplistic design. It is a dungeon crawler really that has you headed up a tower, floor after floor you just clear out monsters, puzzles, beat times and avoid dangerous obsticles. The design is absurdly simple, yet amazingly great. Each floor was probably created in a matter of minutes, but due to each floor having a gimmick like a beat the clock challenge, wandering enemies and zipping wizards make each level a fun and interesting challenge. There are no towns, no inns, no real NPCs to speak to other than merchants. The game is designed to be speedy and quick, before you know it you are onto the next level, but not before defeating a boss character.

GAMEPLAY

There are no traditional levels, classes or anything of that nature. This game goes along the same lines as the Gameboy classic Final Fantasy Legend (SaGa) series that will have you purchasing upgrades to health, magic, intelligence, strength, agility, defense and even spells. Any of the four characters can have any spell, any weapon (from the very limited choices) or armor. You will be amazed at the level of customization there is with this game. After each challenge portion of a floor you will find the equivilant of a town waiting for you. The battles are styled like the other Dragon Fantasy games, where some creatures have a magical weakness and you need to use it or else you will be forced to hack and slash away five times as much as a single spell. The difference between this game and the previous Dragon Fantasy series is the fact that you can see enemies on the overhead map to avoid them.

PRESENTATION

Like the other Dragon Fantasy games, this game uses the old school graphics from the old NES Dragon Quest / Warrior games, even if it does not quite feel like the game. The music stands out as great, if not sometimes out of place on the first few floors. The battle music and victory sounds are obviously updated versions of the Dragon Warrior / Quest, but they are sure to get you into the fray like a friend that has had too much to drink at a shady bar.

EXIT

This is a simple, fun and addictive game that will keep people wanting to know what is on the next floor above the one they are on. It is a great game that stands out from everything else.

ADVICE

Variety in weapons and armors would be great. Some things could be explained better, like the push rocks. They could look more pushable and distinct from other things in the Dragon Quest series that have been branded unpushable. There could be more NPCs with hints, tips or just silly absurdity.
I posted my comments in the discussion topic. =O

Also, I think I'm going to have to go and download Firefox and try again.
What game are the monster sprites from?
I was certain that this Dragon Fantasy title was (and still is) the best "feeling" of the bunch, and that it would at least be more well-received than the first Dragon Fantasy. Seems like that's not the case! I'm...surprised, to say the least!

I just might go an upload a playthrough of this game if I have the time.
