Synopsis:
Raciela is an RPGMaker 2003 game that's not about saving the world, but instead centers around the crew of a pirate ship named the "Lady Raciela" and the people they encounter. The premise of the story was created a few years ago, and the game itself started as a way to test custom sprites. Seeing as though this is a side-project, the game should be between 8-10 hours once (read: if) finished.

Features:
  • Custom sprites.
    Modified DBS.
    SBS (Ship Battle System) .
    Guest System.
    Treasure Hunting System.

Chapter 2 Has Arrived!

You thought I was gone? Come on, be honest! Well, for a while I was; around August of last year a wild car appeared out of nowhere and smashed the hell out of my car (see below):

Yeah, it was every ounce of bad as it looks (*tears up*). I've never been in an accident that serious before, but thankfully there were no fatalities. However, my back was MESSED up, which made sitting anywhere for extended periods of time -- let alone in front of a computer -- difficult. After months of rehab, I recovered just in time to finish my schooling. That ended a month ago, and since then, I've been using my free time to finish Chapter 2 (which is uploading as I type). Now that it's finished, I'm probably going to take a break from Raciela and try working on Story of Innocence. We all know how ephemeral the urge to work on RPG Maker is, and I want to take full advantage of it.

The release has two saves: one for those who never played the Chapter 2 demo and deleted their end-of-Chapter 1 save file, and the other for those who played the Chapter 2 demo but deleted their save file for that. If you have save files from either, they should be compatible with this release. Also, there was suppose to be a segment featuring a ship battle, but I decided to move that to Chapter 3 as I did not feel like re-learning the "code" of that feature. I hope you enjoy Chapter 2; post any bugs/errors you encounter and I'll patch them as quickly as possible!

P.S. The download also includes Chapter 1.

I'm playing this right now, having fun. Great atmosphere and the scenario writing seems entertaining. There are problems with combat skill design and balance, but I didn't beta test this so it's to be expected, heh. Really excellent visual polish. Eat it up, VX users.

Hiyo, I thought I would post this linky here too:

http://xiph.org/dshow/

This is a pretty simple codec package that you could install on Windows, it will allow RPG Maker to play OGG files without crashing with a billion error boxes. :P

It's just an OGG codec; it isn't a whole codec pack.

Okay, thanks.

Those damn oggs! Not implemented. Could you at least use mp3. :0

Well, I used OGGs to reduce the file size.

I enter this area and my character doesn't appear? I didn't quite explore the 1st town so I don't know if I was supposed to do something first or if this was out of sequence or whatever but I got a black screen upon entering and it went away when I opened the menu and closed out but my characters were gone.

So far I like the details here so far, the tiles and maps are done well! I saw the whole intro, wasn't bored. It switches up the scenarios, starts off with something interesting happening, and has good effort put into it. I'll play more of it later and see how it turns out.

That's weird, Ocean; the event the prevents that from happening is called during the intro, so there's no way you could've missed it. Can you check variable 342 and let me know if it was set to "3"? Anyway, I'm glad the intro didn't bore you; that was something I was worried about.

Thanks, Kat! That's definitely better than installing a bunch of codecs. I'll update my blog with your link.

Ultima I'm going to write a review for this. Like, I needed a game like this badly. I don't think you understand how much I wanted to see a game like this yet. I want to tell you what I like about this game but not in just like a post, I'll do a review. There are some small gameplay gripes here and there but like I said,

Thank You.

Ha, ha, thanks, I'm glad you liked it. I'm looking forward to seeing how I should improve the gameplay.

Seems like you just volunteered to beta-test chapter two :) But, yeah, I knew the combat would be iffy, but I'm happy you enjoyed the atmosphere and writing.

That is weird, I did play the full intro. I will check though and get back to you on that! And then play more of the game too.
This game looks amazing. You get bonus props from me especially for using pirates as the main characters. Pirates are the best.

Anyways, I would love to see this released in its complete form some day. 'Til then, I'll be subscribed to this one.

Edit: And I'll also download the first chapter, since I didn't notice that you had that ready for download until a minute after I posted this. :P
I found a glitch: when you play through the flashback, if you go to the main menu (not the camp menu), Corsair is still on the screen and I'm walking around as him, and I can't leave the menu.

Also, after the flashback, the next day when the ship is docked, if you go back to Corsair's room with Wes, the scene will replay itself.

Other than that, I just finished chapter one and this game was simply amazing. The story is incredibly interesting and mature, and the characterization was superb. I can't wait till the next chapter.

Ah, it seems I overlooked something; for someone reason I never thought the player would try to access the menu at that time, or go back to Corsair's room after the fact. Anyway, thanks for coming across those errors, and I hope they didn't detract from the overall experience. Once all the lingering bugs are dealt with, I'll upload an updated version. And I'm glad you enjoyed the story so far.
I'm really enjoying this game so far, it's fun to play and has lots of personality :D Although for some reason, Quintessa's faceset bothered me, I don't even know why D: I edited it a little bit, here it is in case you want it. :)

Despite that I really like this game, specifically the dialogue. It really portrays the characters well, I don't know how you pulled off a pirate dialect so well, I mean it's not even corny. Good job!

Thanks a lot, the eye-patch looks infinitely better! And thanks for the compliments on the dialogue. I tried to avoid clichéd pirate-speak for the most part.

Grats on the release! I'll have to give this a play soon; it looks really beautiful.
I'll be following this game.
Wonderful job so far ^o^
Did a small LP, didn't get too far this was actually a second recording as I had the mic off the first time heh.

I plan to play more / make longer parts then get to that review. It actually wasn't loading a map near the end, which was odd as that didn't happen to me before. Anyways good luck with Chapter 2.

Sweet, another lp! Thanks, ghost! Your style of lping is like the complete opposite of Nicob's, regardless, i look forward to more. As for the map error, this is the first time its been brought up. I don't know... It coukd have been fixed in the updated version.

God damn that was a good first chapter, you'd best continue this brother. I haven't been this interested in a game since Visions and Voices.
If you use a skill upgrade when the character who has that skill isn't in the party, and if that character joins during a cutscene and immediately enters battle, the skill upgrade dialog pops up with the text, and after the text is gone the dialog box remains, sorta blocking the battle screen. Also the main menu scroll/unscroll is slooow (imo).

Just some small details though. As always, the game rocked. You're amazing with storytelling (both substance and style), cutscenes, and mapping. Looking forward to more of this or SoI.
hi hi. hoping you are well and still making things
