The white text on the light background is a big hard to read, but perhaps it's better ingame. Consider changing it though.

Just darkening the message box graphic a little bit in Photoshop would do wonders for readability and contrast with maps.
Plus, since it's hopefully a universally used single picture, that makes your life pretty easy.
I was thinking the same thing when I first saw this screen. I'd darken the messagebox, too.

(The new Notices system here at RMN is awesome, btw. We can actually have discussions now on new content!)
You're right, Azn, it's pretty readable ingame, and like Tardis said, the same pic is used for all dialogue, so I have no problem darkening it a little. Thx for the comments!
Viewing it at home it is much more readable. Weird.

Weird. I've got absolutely no problems with the message display with the actual message, but rather with the layout for the name and the portrait. The name frame takes up way too much space and makes the alignment of the whole layout pretty awkward. I'd consider bringing the face frame to same level with the name frame at least.
I see what you mean, but I use three different sized-boxes for names now. One for short names, one for medium names, and one for long names. Also, my setup for messages are like this: I use names on the first line, leave the second line blank, and use the last two for dialogue. So, if I put faces on the same level as names, I'll have to adjust the first line of text, and that could result in name cutoffs. The way I have it right now takes up less space than if I were using all four lines.
Everything looks good except the message layout is awkward. It seems like everything is fighting for space. Make the message box regular size, forget about the name box (include name in reg message box.) And you can go 2 ways with the face. Keep the border and put it inside the message box, or lose the border and keep it on top.
Yeah, I noticed that a while back when I redid the message layout, and reformatted the dialog, but thanks anyway!

You could just move the faces over to the right and on the same level as the names. Just a change or coordinates is all that would be required.

Great screenshot, though. I like how all the characters are actually sitting (small touches always make the diff), although I did just notice what looks to be a tiling error in the room with the staircase. There's a sack, potted plant, and an inkwell with paper magically stuck to the wall.
lol, they're on a table, maybe I'll darken it a little to make it more visible.
Oh, don't even bother. I'm a moron and didn't realize that was a table, hahaha.
