Hellion

There is something strange going on at the old temple in the remote village of Salidar. You are the Mysterious Wanderer - a warrior chosen from destiny to face the evil within. Your fate is tied intimately with what lies at its depths. Will you bring salvation to the forlorn hopefuls of Salidar? Or will you unleash destruction, whether by design or disaster? It is in your hands....

Hellion is best described as a cross between Dragon Warrior, Diablo and D&D - you have a blank slate character with 7 classes to choose from at the beginning of the game. You adventure solo. You can hire hirelings. The monster drops are random. The graphics are NES. The battles backgrounds are black. There are traps. There are locks to be picked and NPCs to be persuaded.

..:: FEATURES ::..
- Dragon Warrior NES-style theme
- Several outside of battle skills, including lockpicking, hiding, running, pickpocketing and persuading.
- A simple Alignment tracking system
- Random monster drops and chest contents
- On-map traps and monsters
- Unique Skill trees for the 7 character classes
- Fatigue-based Running System

Here is the mappack for Hellion with the XTREME LFX content! Download the rar file and unzip the contents of the rar file and copy it into the Hellion folder, overwriting what's there. Let me know if it doesn't work.

GreatRedSpirit for the darkness code and image.
kentona for putting it all together and making another rocking arrow tile puzzle (booyah)
hyadain for his awesome DQ3 remix

To access the Rad Sunglasses map go to the pool in the lower right section of Salidar and inspect the waterfall. There is an inscription that you need to decipher and the way to Rad Sunglasses castle will be unlocked.

I think I'll download this just because I can hire Cristo as an healer.
I shamelessly stole names from other popular media for nearly ALL of the NPCs and hirelings.

The guy above me said this, by the way.

"Time for another review without mercy.

It is well known that good jobs or loves Kenton classes and likes to find variety, Hellion gives us a character class that we can choose from several different, each with its own skill tree of skills. In like to add once we choose our main party almost immediately together with many other characters who ayudarana cover the weaknesses of our hero.

History .- The story is minimal and in my poor eyesight, not many dialogues with NPCs the princopal not even speak (laughs nomas in the evil ending) no joke the other endings and quests are next to none.

Graphics .- Copy paste the dragon quests, in fact the vast majority of enemies are also there.

.- Music Midis, again copy paste alguons dragon quest, given the style of play, it does not look bad but by no means are good.

Difficulty .- Easy, just an occasional bout Carrillo give enough to kill 1 or 2 of our characters.

Gameplay .- Here is where the game has good pros and cons good. We have a dungeon crawler game and as such we will be moving 95% of the time, exploring the maze which is initially interesantem and it's interesting because we have several skills that are necessary for the mission, as it is, detect and disarm trmapas, open locks, Bashar everything that we can not open for good, decipher runes, get treasures of defeated enemies, persuade, pickpocketed and some other that this forgetting.

From the beginning we will test all of these skills and this helps make the game fun, HOWEVER, in the long run this makes monotone and given the limited history and plot of the game as it makes the end and screwed this one (in my opinion).

All in all Hellion is a game that could have been better if it had invested more music, more variety of enemies and of course more (much more) plot in history.

I have no other option to give 2 out of 5 stars (sorry Kentona)"
Don't feel like you have to apologize! I think you made some valid points and justified them well. While I my disagree on your interpretation of the story/history (I rather liked it and when I was writing it it ended up much darker than any of my other games), that doesn't mean you have to feel bad for your stance.

Thanks for the review!
I think I found a bug :x. I just randomly gained 100,000 gold. The last thing I did was speak to Arcana and sell a tunic.
yep! That sounds like a bug! Enjoy the 100 grand, I guess!
This seems like a promising game, but before I consider getting into it, can anyone give me an estimated numbers of hours that this game will require?
5-8hours, I'd hazard but it's been a while.
Finished! It took me almost a month to decide which retro game to play the whole way through. This was the one. Thanks for the great introduction to RMN kentona.

Any time! I am glad you liked it.
Is there any way to actually open the "You cannot detect any seams" door in the Rad Sunglasses pack to get to the chest? I flipped both floor switches in the area and it didnt open, got the sunglasses and backtracked through and it still wouldnt open.

You need a high Detection skill (iirc) to be able to detect hidden doors. Maybe come back after you've boosted it a bit?

Thanks, i did exactly what you said and was able to open it. One more question: How do you beat Ghosts? Do you have to have someone with non-physical attacks in your party?

Yes, I believe I made Ghosts immune to regular physical attacks. You need to use a magic spell, magically-enhanced weapon or a magic scroll to defeat them.
When does cross class training become available? Is it by what floor you made it to or character level?

oh man it's been so long. I don't even have this game on my machine anymore.

I downloaded it, and looked, and you can unlock Cross-Class training at level 15.
