intro undergoing some changes

i decided that the difficulty of the intro is unacceptable, I have never had a problem with it during tests but i shouldn't expect everyone to play in the exact same way I do and I do not intend to make a "challenging" game anyway so I'll be looking into ways to make the battles here more reasonable

a very slight nerf to enemy basic attk power, a way to insta heal at the start of the first monster area, and a few automatic starting items are things i will probably implement

the difficulty comes from not searching the starting town for all the free loot and/or trying to engage in multiple encounters without healing up like you can do in most other rpgs that are more grind oriented. (the fights here should be thought of more as just a bunch of wannabe boss battles) I'm gonna work to make the game more forgiving if players do not do these things, especially at the start

i also went to the store and got these cheeto things called "puffcorn" which were basically cheeto lumps that were supposed to be like popcorn. I really liked them because they tasted EXACTLY like "Jax" brand, a far superior cheese curls snack that you can only find around new england

Allinlia v1.0 demo!

I have just finished and submitted the first real demo of this game. It has about 1 or 2 or so hours of gameplay depnding on how much time you spend interacting with everything (which I hope is alot)

The best news is that I managed to trim over 10mb off the download from the one I put up with just the cutscene (mostly by replacing the huge mp3 tracks with slimmer and better alternatives.) oh, and because some people were a bit confused about this: I included the rtp so you do not need vx to play this game.

The game is meant to light and funny, I think some of the funniest dialogue comes up when you do unusual things (pick the 'show choice' seldom picked, checking things that held an item a second time, and just interact with anything you think will make Roxalani open his yap.) Of course, I am just saying this because I am a selfish game creator and god forbid anyone dare skip the even a single tiny insignificant part of my glorious magnum opus, but you might enjoy these tiny tidbits of text.

sorry this demo is so short but I really wanted to get somthing actually playable released soon for you guys since I was feeling guilty over my 50mb opening cutscene and then letting this sit on the shelf for like half a year. The next demo release will have at least 50% of the finished game. (!!!)

Have fun with this I guess, I think its a pretty ok little demo.

oh, and if you don't see it up there that means it is still pending approval, it will be up eventually.

real demo coming soon-ish

probably within this week or next I will be where I want to be to get somthing ACTUALLY PLAYABLE out there

my idea of having the opening cutscene as a download to get the player pumped or whatever was a pretty dumb idea in retrospect (i didn't realize till I tried to download a game with similar filesize just how long I was making people wait for a movie) so I'm trying to get a real demo out soon.

Try to hold off downloading if you haven't already till then.

making progress

motivation is a slippery little devil isn't it?

After several months I don't even give this game the time of day and then I suddenly and really for no reason et the urge to keep working on it and I completely shame myself by making mroe progress in like 2 days then I have been for...oh who knows how long.

The reason for this blog is to announce that at this time I am actually doing some actual work and also to ask a question:

would you rather have a playable demo out (relatively) quickly or would you rather I release a demo that has a decent percentage of the finished game in it. (obviously this will take alot longer.)

I guess I'm asking if you guys would rather have somthing out quickly or if you want a fairly lengthy demo.

and I have some good news: when this demo is released the file size will almost certainly be lower then what you see here if the intro movie. The reason is I was able to find very good midi substitutes to all of the stupidly large mp3 tracks. I probably shaved 15mb off this thing just by doing that since there were like 5 songs that were 3 to 6 MB each and I got better songs that are less than 1 each to replace them.

I think the best part of this game is the dialogue, I am re-reading some of what I've written and it makes me very eager to get this thing out there in a playable form.

New Character :3

***UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE!***

New Character: Gate Guardian Butterfly!

This guy is a butterfly that seems to show up in just about every dungeon in the game. He guards a door and won't let you through unless Roxalani wins a completely off the wall and nonsensical challenge. (and its just Roxalani) And you can't just beat him up for no adequetly explained reason! GGB has more than a few screws loose so that makes him like just like alot of characters in this game. He shows up more than 16 times so like it or not you'll be seeing alot of him. (I do try to make these challenges entertaining so hopefully you will enjoy them alot more than Roxalani will)

I'm not kidding when I say these things are crazy. One of them involves having to persuade a vending machine into giving you a candy bar that is dangling ever so slightly off the edge of the hook. (instead of, ya know, pushing it over) yeah, and this isn't even among the most "out there" ones I have cooked up

No clue where the idea for this guy came from, but it is one of those things that suddenly descend from heaven carried on a silver tray by two cheribs. I thought of all the challenges and I absolutely love them. After finding the most ridiculous and needlessly over the top theme song I could for GGB my excitement over working on this game is higher than ever

(anyone who recognizes the track I used will know immeadiately what to expect from the moment they hear it)

oh and before anyone says that this will prevent anyone from taking the game seriously: That's kinda the point yo. (I mean the game's hero is 7 years old)

wish me luck, hopefully I can clear up my schedule for working on this game sooner rather than later

and get a REAL demo available for download

Allinlian Mythology (This plays an integral role in the sotry)

The Allinlians worship a human child-god called Cael, who they believe created the continent and the people who live there by tracing the outline of it with his finger and then mking it rise up out of the ocean. He is primarily seen as a deity associated with light, kindness, and mercy. Though as we all know, kids are unstable creatures so they are still careful. In complete contrast is his older brother, Yoshio (only a matter of time before I named a character after myself.) who is associated with darkenss, unempathetic destruction, and fearsome power. Yoshio wishes to destroy Allinlia and everyone on it just to spite his brother. This is sort of like where there are two small children, the younger one builds a tower of blocks or somthing similar, and the older one walks by and kicks it down, the same principle is applying here. The Allinlians don't believe that either of these deities created the entire universe which suggests that they passively believe that there are more gods, but they only name and acknowledge these two.

A couple hundred years ago, it is said that Yoshio incited a large group of thieves, and criminals who routinely hid out in Allinlia's vast grasslands to band togather and attempt to take down the two established kingdoms. Many of these people made a dark pact with the god where he gave them powerful magical abilities. These people were known as the Teppistimagia. (thug magicians) A powerful army was raised under the iron fist of the tough as nails, cold, and cruel General Gar. This army made quick work of plowing through the forces of both kingdoms and it seemed as though all hope was lost for the Allinlians, fortunately for them, Cael had seen Yoshio's mischief coming so he took on a mortal form and planted himself in the mortal world. He was born to a young, well-to-do human married couple who he had given repeated instruction using dreams to give birth to him halfway up Allinlia's tallest mountain. When Cael was old enough (the exact age depends on who you ask but it is usually around the area of 6, 7, or 8) he climbed to the top of the mountain where he filled himself with hs own divine power and prepared to take on the dark forces. Cael worked fast, he united the two kingdoms into a joint, unified empire and he led the empire's army against General Gar and the Teppistimagia. After much fighting the Allinlians were victorious and the dark army was destroyed. Cael then handed 10 objects to the former Dragon King (the human king had died in battle) which were later known as the "divine artifacts" the 10 objects Cael purposefully left in the mortal world before ascending back to the realm of the gods. Before he left, took a lock of his hair and used it to create a golden egg. It is believed that Emperor Bariton, the first emperor of unified Allinlia, was hatched from this egg. The human child being hatched from an egg (which is how dragon children are born) is heavily symbolic of the new empire and what the emperors are expected to represent. The former Dragon King served as regent for 19 years before handing the crown over to Cael's "son" on the exact day that Cael had asked him to do this. After hatching the egg and handing Bariton over to the dragon king, Cael climbed to the top of the mountain again and left the mortal world. Yoshio had started this war so he could be responsible for as much destruction to both sides and to the land itself as possible, he was a bit aggravated when Cael managed to save the day though.

Not all of the Teppistimagia were killed durning the war, but they are believed to have long since gone extinct.

It should be noted that this was a conflict between two human/dragon combination groups. The monsters, except for a rare few exceptions, refused to get involved in any way, and the goblins did not come into existence until after this time. (oh and before I forget, the green dragons went "extinct" long before this, so there weren't any of them involved either.)

Cael is worshipped among the dragon and human races, the monsters and goblins acknowledge him but neither race engages in any form of worship. Yoshio is, in general, not worshipped at all, since he is basically just out to kill everything.

Cael is depicted in many pieces of artwork either in the form of "Cael the mortal" (where he is either shown playing or as a general rallying troops or leading them into battle) ir "Cael the deity" (where he is shown towering over his creation. In both forms he is depicted as a little boy wearing white, he is shown as having light skin and golden blonde hair and blue eyes. Yoshio isn't depicted often but the artists who do decide to do it always depict him in the deity form, he bares a strong resemblance to Cael, sharing all his facial features, as wella as his blue eyes and light skin (they are supposed to be brothers after all) but Yoshio is shown with black hair and glasses, and whereas the background of deity Cael images is usualy blue skies and the ocean, Yoshio always seems to have an intimidating black, purple, and red aura. He either appears to be angry or have a sinister grin, depending on the artist. His clothes vary, but they are always in dark colors. They are both immortal gods, obviously, but Cael's physical age in all of these images can be anywhere from 3 to 8, Yoshio is depicted as being older, but still a little kid, never being shown as being above age 10.

Some Info on Allinlia (the country)

Allinlia is a land of monsters and magic, it is essentially a large island continet ruled over by a single empire, it it currently contains 3 main racial groups:

Humans: pretty self explanatory but there are a few things worth noting: Allinlian humans are capable of learning magic either through intensive study and practice. A rare few humans are "natural born magic users." These individuals are born with an inate ability to learn and use magic, spells seem to "just come to them." Its also worth mentioning that the first Allinlian Emperor and all of his descendents have been humans, right down to the current ruler.

Dragons: Allinlian dragons come in two varities: The most common one is the orange dragons. Orange dragons are very large in stature, though they rarely exceed 8 feet in height, they are known for being very tall, very wide, and having incredible physical strength. These dragons lost the ability to breath fire long ago. There used to be a very large orange dragon kingdom in southern Allinlia but it fused itself with the human kingdom to form the Allinlian Empire and it has remained that way ever since. The dragons show absolutely no interest in breaking away. The other variety of dragon is the green dargons, which went extinct hundreds of years before the two kingdoms fused, or were even formed. Green dragons are absolute giants. A baby green dragon is gigantic enough to easily swallow a human or orange dragon whole. Unlike orange dragons, the green variety can breath fire at will using a special gland, though very young dragons have difficulty controlling it. Neither variety is in any way able to use magic. They both have wings, but they are both incapable of lifting themselves off the ground, due to thier huge body weights.

Monsters/Goblins: Monsters are perhaps the most numerous of all the races and definately the most varied. Despite the many, many, different sub species of monster, they all share the same basic qualities: namely the capability of using magic and the very high probability of a monster being a natural born magic user. Monster varieties can be anywhere from advanced intelligence to being full blown sentient beings. Though many monsters resemble regular animals, they are all much smarter than any animal. The Goblin is the only sub species of monster that bothers to form organized settlements leading some to question whether it is proper to lump them in with monsters. However, even the goblins themselves regard themselves as being a sub species of the larger monster race. Some monster varieties are born in the same manner as regular creatures, the first monsters are believed to be regular animals and objects that became altered by areas of intense magical power common when Allinlia was first created. The majority of monsters have no sense of ownership or leadership, and have no desire for the notions of civilization that the humans and dragons seem so obssesed with. Goblins are an exception to this general rule, as are a rare few ambitious monsters.
