This review covers the introductory demo of the game Linus, a game of formidable worth and truly a force to be reckoned with in the RPG Maker Community...

STORY
Now lets start with the plot, although I failed to grasp the true content of what was happening in absolute detail I did get the picture. The demo introduces you to a ton of characters which you grow attached to in the process of playing the game. The only problem I struggle with is trying to remember all their names and key things they said as the plot continues. Even so, you grasp the logistics of what is happening and enjoy every moment as it is captured beautifully into a thrilling story that leaves the player in awe. I'm not going to reveal to much about the plot but at the start of the game the main story is based on the perspective of Eugene, a soldier attempting to flee from war knowing his kingdom is damned. You do switch between perspectives but the central focus of the story is from Eugene's point of view and his struggle to flee from war with his friends. What is presented is sadness of war, the calamity of it all and the struggle of maintaining allegiance to a falling kingdom. I give the story 4.5/5 but it really does deserve the full score considering it was written perfectly. The only qualm I have is that to gamer's who prefer a game without too many characters to take note of as that can be overwhelming and put them off, those of us who want a thrilling story none the least but don't want to keep thinking about the detail preferring simplicity over complexity.

GAME-PLAY AND LEVEL DESIGN
The game-play is what you would expect from a typical RPG game of its style. It uses the term "Pursuits" instead of quests though as specific goals need to be accomplished in the game. I can only remember one optional Pursuit in the demo though. As you make your way through the forests you encounter various monsters. The battles aren't too challenging but the bosses are medium level. One qualm I have with the game-play is that considering battling enemies is the main element of the game you can't really grind, at least not in the intro. Thus you are stuck to the limitations of what the developer provided you with and that is expected in early stages. It seems that the game is not easy, not too difficult but I would say challenging.
As for the level design, the structure is perfect and well organised. There weren't any puzzles just the journey. You have to speak to various people to proceed to the next stage when on safe grounds in the camps you embark. The forests however have monsters that chase you before the game transitions into a battle. It was an enjoyable experience.

MUSIC
The music and the atmosphere of this game is perfect and sets you in the mood. The developer chose the right tracks to get an emotional response from the player. That said, the tracks aren't all original as some are musical scores even taken from some movies you may have watched such as the popular Harry Potter. It's a good idea as not many RPG Maker games do this. Because of the lack of originality I give this score sadly 4/5 instead of a perfect score. Even still, if the music was completely original it would have been a perfect score as the tracks were indeed perfect for the game's theme especially the original ones.

SUMMARY
To summarise, this game is a must play for anyone especially RPG Maker Developers who truly need to know how a decent game is made. Like pretty much most RPG Maker Games it lacks a lot of original resources, graphics and music especially. Never the less, the game broke the 4th wall and I found myself crying at times bewildered by its magnificence. The story has inspired me to continue my works refreshed from learning from a true master at the craft of story telling.

Wow thanks so much for the review! I do agree with a lot of your criticisms and a lot of them are being addressed for the next demo release. I'm focusing a lot on making the story flow better and making it more easily digestible. Glad you enjoyed it though!

I am looking forward to playing it! :)
I remember playing this a long long time ago, longer than a couple years even, it had some flaws back then like the ones you've mentioned now, but still blew me away. Glad it see blueperiod has gone back to this project, and nice review! :)
Thanks Boos, I have also been watching Linus closely. Never tried it up until now but have been keeping relatively updated in its development so far.

This is a solid review. I appreciate that your personal preferences don't influence your verdict too much. The score not being original lowering your score is an objective point to have. But this being a hobbyist game, I don't think it really matters. A good curation might fit Linus better.
Anyway, your review and blue's response made me even more hyped for the next release.
Thanks! Also, I see what you mean.
