Pretty. But slow...

Game Title: Midnight Realm
Game Creator: Anaryu
Reviewer: AznChipmunk
Engine: GameMaker
Genre: Puzzle

Playthrough:
I'm not going to write a playthrough review of this game, but rather talk about the individual points instead.
Basically... The game looks but, but it doesn't play that good, to be blunt and honest.
One issue I have with the game is that it doesn't show in the save slots any sort of information, it always just lists "Slot 1" or whatever. It would be nice to see some sort of progress, because at first, it didn't even feel like I saved anything there.
Anyways:
Overview:
Plot: It's about some... antisocial kid, who doesn't believe in the Halloween spirit. It reminds me like those old children's stories or movies, where someone doesn't believe in a "holiday" and is eventually, brought to like it. (Like Scrooge.) Anyways, I didn't get too far into the plot, only past the intro. From what I saw, it's... decent. It doesn't seem to be anything mindblowing, but just a charming Halloween game.
2.5/5.

Gameplay: It's kind of boring. At first I thought it would be a fairly fast-paced puzzle game, but it was really slow. Maybe I wasn't playing right, but, I dunno, it just wasn't that fun. Also, are you supposed to be able to deselect boxes? If I kept clicking, the boxes kept getting brighter and brighter. The battle didn't feel fast-paced enough. Was I supposed to be able to just select as many boxes as I want? I felt that this area was majorly lacking. Since it was slow, it didn't hold my attention very long, and I didn't feel like playing too far into the game.
2/5.

Graphics: The game is quite pretty! It has a lot of nice handdrawn graphics, and the puzzle screen has some pretty slick graphics. The characters look pretty well drawn, and the game is graphically consistent.
4.5/5.

Music & Sound: Hmm... Not too much to say here. The music is alright, but nothing memorable--it just seems like some music that the creator liked, and decided to throw it. Not music that exactly fits Halloween or the game. However, there are RPGMaker RTP sound effects which feel rather out of place.
3/5.

Creativity & Originality: Puzzle games always interest me, because I guess, they use a bit more brain power, and can take more thinking to design. The puzzle presented here has a good idea, but it just needs to be polished and added onto.
3/5.

Pros:
-Good graphics!

Cons:
-Slow, kind of boring
Final Score:
3 WELPS out of 5 WELPS

You have not mastered yet the ways of welp...

Final Comments/Notes: Hmm... I've seen Anaryu put out better, perhaps he had some sort of time rush. Good luck with future projects!
