A short review for a short game

Pumpkin Night

Pumpkin Night is a mini game designed for the 2009 Halloween Game Competition. It is exactly 2 minutes long, and in those 2 minutes your objective is simple - collect as many pumpkins as you can.

Story:

You play as you, in a graveyard, collecting mad pumpkins. Not much in it, but that's not the idea. It does exactly what it needs to do(which is nothing) so for that it gets

5/5

Gameplay:

This game is all about gameplay. So the gameplay's got to be good, right?

Sadly, no.

I was ready for basic gameplay. But this was just going too far.

The pumpkins you are collecting are alive and thus move. Well that's good and all, but they don't attack. Why am I collecting these pumpkins if they're not even hurting anyone? Honestly though, this makes the whole game a bit shallow and boring.

Also, there is no way to tell how well you're doing. Without some sort of benchmark, I quickly lost motivation to play.

There are no glitches to my knowledge(except it's kinda odd when a pumpkin spawns on you, but it has no gameplay effect).

All of this adds up to a rather average gameplay score of

2.5/5

Graphics:

The graphics are very nice and apparently custom. The pumpkins stand out for their lack of shading but are still well designed.

My only complaint here is the "story" text is pixelated and in some places unreadable.

This area gets a

3.5/5

Audio:

There is only 1 song in the game. It is a nice song and it fits the theme well, but I can't help but feel that a 2 minute song that matched up exactly with the end of the game would have been better.

The title screen has no music, which was disapointing.

Nothing much to say here except

2.5/5

Overall:

This game is really short and probably doesn't deserve to win the ($50?) prize. But all in all it is a well presented package that offers a few minutes of fun on a rainy day. Good on crossroad00 for getting a game, of whatever length, out to play.

2.5/5

Thanks for the review! By the way, the graphics were custom made. ^^;
Well I don't like putting N/As and it does what it needs to do. (Which is nothing). It has no effect on the overall score.
