..:: GENERICA ::..
..:: THE NEXT GENERATION ::..

..:: OVERVIEW ::..

Welcome to Generica: The Next Generation! Generica: The Next Generation follows the story of the new generation of heroes as they hunt down the heathen vessel meant to resurrect the fallen Slayer King.

33 years after the demise of the Slayer King and the events of Generica, a Cardinal in the southern continent of Southica is convinced a plan is afoot to resurrect the evil theron. He has secretly trained a new group of heroes to seek out and destroy the heathen vessel meant to revive the Lord of Destruction.

In a world still sickened by the wars and bloodshed and tyranny of the defeated Slayer King, our heroes must pursue the vessel and its mysterious guardian through valleys, across wastelands and over mountains and stop the resurrection at all costs. Fierce elementals, perilous caves, and dangerous assassins stand in their way as humanity and the New Religion strive to survive in a dying world.

..:: NOTES ::..

This project was intended to be a small project created in a short timeframe. However, that isn't how it played out in the end. After nearly 4 years of sitting in Development Hell, I finally pushed through and completed the game. All told, there was probably about only about 3 months worth of work put into this game. It was just interspersed with months and years long hiatuses. This game is a short RPG like the original Generica.

All Good Things

Generica: The Next Generation v1.0 is released! Finally!

The download includes the option to play the original Generica, and the option to use either the G:TNG classes or the original Generica classes (to start either game). Also features a New Game+ that allows you to play through to the next game using the same classes/levels/equipment/items.

This game was patched using DynRPG and HyperPatcher 2 (for the font). There is a FF6.fon in the Font folder you should install if you haven't already. This is the first time that I used DynRPG, and I used it to install PepsiOtaku's Faster ATB patch.

If you encounter any bugs or balance issues, let me know here! I will do my best to fix them.

I hope you enjoy the game!

So I recently play tested this game and discovered something disappointing: its not very fun. The classes I developed are pretty balanced and all that, and the maps are nice, but I think the way I present the story leaves a lot to be desired. Maybe even the story itself is flawed. It kind of brings down the whole experience.

The end result of this is that I am even less enthused to finish this game than before. :/
Story was never something I played the first one for anyway, I say keep at 'er! :)
You're just making excuses, you haven't opened this up in the editor in months have you? ::emoticon::

The premise sounds less generic then it could be, if that's its main flaw.
Aye, say it isn't so! Okay, fine, I'll speak in a crappy variation of Old English:

"I beseech you, fair maiden, to bestow upon us the fine gift of this sequel of which thou hast promised us quite often. For it is upon us to complete this adventure and to seek glory in the battles against the wicked uprising of the Slayer King."

Anyway, I agree with the 8/11 04:57 PM post (for some reason can't see the names of the posters), the story wasn't the main reason for playing the first game anymore than it was in playing similar games on the NES of old. That said, I really liked the simplicity of the tale of the first one and thought it was handled appropriately well.

Perhaps if you are uncertain of which direction to go with this sequel, you could provide a demo and seek our thoughts?

I suppose I could! I mean, right up until the forest town everything is playable and pretty polished.

I will consider this...
I want put this shit on my hands.
I want to say "I ain't holding my breath", but who am I kidding? Of course I still care.
Do you have a prediction as to when this will be finished?
welp.

not yet...

(Probably not ever, since the game is so short anyways it's not worth it)
I require this game's completion. Right here, and right now. >=O
Yes, if ever an rm game deserved a sequel, it's generica.
I think games like this one are not playable by story but those litlle extras like hidden everywhere extras with sexy animations when we found it, and dungeons with tons of chests and retro music (i think this game need realy retro music) and great fell of power increasing by equpment with tons of weapons and skills and leveling, and team increasing.It's mean i love this in the way like i love Ahriman Prophecy it's mean not important is story important are power increasing feel and important are battles and levels i prefer with traps and many things like mini games. Story is LESS important. Sometimes i think super playable rpg do not need a story but fun from playing.

Why dont use power mode 2003 and use music in more nes sound ? in xm. it. format. there are IN INTERNET, chiptunes based on dragon quest and other nes games. I have many chiptunes. With power mode just rename chiptunes on .mid like blabla.xm on blabla.xm.mid blabal.it on blabla.it.mid and you hear it in game (not in RM2003). I love chiptunes sounds and it takes few kilobytes only. Much more retro than midi. Midi sucks. Want some nes style sound in battle ? Look on freesoundproject for 8bit/chiptune sounds.

And of course i am nes/snes games fan to but more arcade games so i do like arcade elements in rpg like this cause for me no cool gameplay no games. Story is always less important in games than gameplay.
