Originally released December 19, 2005.
The boy Rolf wakes up to an ordinary day in his tiny forest village of Ur. During a routine excursion to the forest with his friend Melissa, the village is attacked by a former resident, a man named Theo. After wiping out the entire town, Theo decides to allow Rolf to live. Rolf spends the next years of his life training to defeat that man and avenge his family and friends.

There are five playable characters, a change party 'reserve' system allows you to choose who is in your party at a given time. While it uses the DBS, there are strategic twists to make it a bit more interesting. There are no random encounters, either. While it is, for the most part a standard RPG, there are sci-fi elements in the storyline as well. It provides somewhere between 14-16 hours of gameplay. Features a lot of customized graphics (notoriously bad faceset designs) and an almost entirely custom musical score.

Quiz Master Minigame

In addition to the bug I mentioned in the last blog post, I have been informed (a long time ago actually) that the quiz master minigame doesn't work as it was intended to. Apparently I'd accidentally coded it so that one wrong answer caused you to fail out of the test (but only after the third question), instead of the intended two questions.

Firstly, the minigame's purpose was a silly premise in the first place. I included it as a sort of check to make sure that the player was actually reading the story, and not skipping through the text. I realized long ago that I shouldn't be forcing the player to read through all the dialogue, least of all not so they can answer a few random questions about a few words that someone probably doesn't even remember at that point.

With that being said, all of the answer except the very last question can still be accessed from within the castle. However, because of the bug I mentioned at the beginning, this still leaves the game unplayable if you missed the answer to the last question. My bad.

That brings me to the second point. I had intended to remove this minigame in a later release, but since I concluded the game was virtually in it's final form so I could focus all my work on the sequel, that never happened. I also intended to post the answers to the quiz somewhere, but at the time, I couldn't think of a proper place that I could post them, where anyone who's playing the game could easily find them. Enter this site.

So, without further adieu, I present the answers to the quiz master minigame.

The first 5 questions are multiple choice.
1) Option #2 Gremal
2) Option #1 Raygley
3) Option #4 Ur
4) Option #3 Aaron
5) Option #3 Royal Knights Brigade

The last 5 questions made use of the enter hero name event. Because it was really quirky in rm2k, there were a few rules mentioned in game to make it work properly. Failure to comply to these rules would result in an incorrect answer, even if the answer given was right.
- Capitalize names of places and people. Do not capitalize the names of items.
- if the answer is an odd number of letters long (3, 5, 7 etc) you need to put a blank space at the end of the input. Doing this makes the full word show up on the top.
- do not add spaces to the end of even lettered words.

The answers to the questions are given below. They appear in their EXACT spelling. a _ will be placed after every odd lettered word, to remind you to put an extra space at the end.

question 6 - Eddie_
question 7 - Dera
question 8 - herb
question 9 - Edwin_
question 10 - Rankov

That's the answers. Maybe someday I'll update the actual game to remove this thing, and the terribad facesets, and whatever else I decide needs fixing. Maybe.

Later guy(s?).

I posted a new blog concerning your question. It's not the first time this has been mentioned, so I figured a blog is a better way to answer it.
thanks
how do you exit that prestess place i went in to get the girl but now i cant get out it were the monks are and the high presstess is*p.s mighta spellt some words wrong*
The teleport is the exact center of the bottom of the map. you need to walk into it from the top. The center of the map is exactly one square to the right of the high priestess. So walk up to face her, then take a step to the right, then go straight down.
Well, I did say I would test it, so you can use my comments as a guide when you do fix it up. I stopped before taking the test, because it's kind of late, but I'll copy and paste everything I have so far. It was mostly just grammar bugs, but there were alot.

Mana conquest bugs.

Not all of these are bugs, some are merely opinions of my own, but they will be included here, because I personally believe they can be changed to make the game more realistic. This is the way I test all my games, and since I believe this game has alot of potential to be improved, I'll give this game the degree of testing it should of received a long time ago!

1. In the intro, there is a typo. cheif should be chief
2. Also in the intro, never start a sentance with the word And. I think quite a bit of the dialog should be rewritten personally, but since it's a completed game, I'll just give you the errors I find.
3. When you try to rest right as the game starts, the game fades out acting like you did sleep, but then your character says he can't go to sleep now. It's a contradiction.
4. Still in the very first map of the game, one of the books says: spelink for dumeys. I'm not certain if spelink was meant to be spelunk, but I know for certain dumeys is spelt wrong. It's meant to be dummies.
5. You go downstairs, and despite someone yelling upstairs to wake him up, there is nobody downstairs. I don't know how it is there, but generally people usually stick around to make sure your up, and then leave.
6. Fish is not a breakfast food, you'd be better off giving him an apple or something.
7. I'm on the second map, talking to Melissa, never start a sentence with but either. Not trying to be big on grammar, but so many mistakes will turn people off. It also tends to look better.
8. Be sure to use don't correctly. Don't = do not. It's misused once so far while still talking to melissa in the 2nd map.
9. When speaking to melissa's mother, the last part didn't have a period at the end.
10. Why would melissa give you a herb for not going through her things? Your headed out to slay a monster, she should be sharing her herbs regardless.
11. On some maps, theres dirt terrain marking your way to the next map, and on others it seems it doesn't matter (when moving through maps in the village going left/right, and vise versa.
12. You're is misused in a sentence, and I assume wards is meant to be words.
13. Theo says: you have the nerve to ask what, I assume what is meant to be that.
14. How did theo know that rolf was the son of his enemy? I don't recall anybody revealing that information to him. Smelling his taint doesn't really seem to be a good answer to that.
15. I'm in the second town, and there is an npc who can walk on the houses opening. It's two tiles high, and she can walk on both. This is on the map to the left of the doctors office.
16. when rolf is talking to the doctor (the scene at night), my father once told me is not a complete sentence.
17. even though he didnt get sleep, shouldn't he of been healed after those scenes? Well, the inn is cheap, so I don't mind either way.

Quick edit: Forgot to mention that mapping errors will not be posted here, as while I think your mapping could use a bit of work, I'm going to leave it up to you on whether to do that. Right now it's tolerable.

Would you believe I actually had a team of three people play through this game from beginning to end before it was released? That is, of course, in addition to my own countless playthroughs of the game, including a full playthrough from start to finish once I completed it.

I'll chalk these both up to being young and uneducated at the time (17 is still young right? XD)

3. When you try to rest right as the game starts, the game fades out acting like you did sleep, but then your character says he can't go to sleep now. It's a contradiction.
I have no idea how such a simple glitch could've possibly escaped me for this long.

author=demonlord5000
4. Still in the very first map of the game, one of the books says: spelink for dumeys. I'm not certain if spelink was meant to be spelunk, but I know for certain dumeys is spelt wrong. It's meant to be dummies.
Ah, that's the joke you see. All the books in the game are supposed to be funny and/or witty in some way. This one of course is a spelling book whose title is filled with spelling mistakes. Virtually every book in the game has some kind of quirk about it similiar to this. Some are dirty, some are clean, but most of them are stupid and worthless. Also, some of them have items hidden inside.

5. You go downstairs, and despite someone yelling upstairs to wake him up, there is nobody downstairs. I don't know how it is there, but generally people usually stick around to make sure your up, and then leave.
His mother called him downstairs and then left to go to Melissa's mother's house. I think she probably said that in the text, but I don't have a copy of it at this point to confirm that. This is something that happened in my life a lot back when I was a kid, so drawing on some personal experience I guess.

author=demonlord5000
6. Fish is not a breakfast food, you'd be better off giving him an apple or something.
I've had smoked kippers for breakfast on multiple occasions. I think the better question to ask in this situation is where did the fish he ate for breakfast come from, since there isn't really any water near the town. XD

author=demonlord5000
7. I'm on the second map, talking to Melissa, never start a sentence with but either. Not trying to be big on grammar, but so many mistakes will turn people off. It also tends to look better.
Keep in mind that the characters in the village live in the middle of the woods and probably don't speak with completely proper grammar. With that being said, I'm sure part of the reason that I started sentences with contractions was trying to make the characters seem more believable by deliberately messing with their manner of speech.

author=demonlord5000
8. Be sure to use don't correctly. Don't = do not. It's misused once so far while still talking to melissa in the 2nd map.
That could be a typo, but without the text in front of me I can't be sure. More likely just a bad choice of words. Heh.

author=demonlord5000
9. When speaking to melissa's mother, the last part didn't have a period at the end.
It is unlike me to forget the period at the end of a sentence in the game dialogue. It could be that I forgot it, or it may be possible that the line of text was just very slightly too long and the period at the end was cut off. I'd need to see the text to be sure.

author=demonlord5000
10. Why would melissa give you a herb for not going through her things? Your headed out to slay a monster, she should be sharing her herbs regardless.
I think I was going for a final fantasy 7 reference there. There was a scene in the flashback to nibelheim where cloud can go into tifa's room and go through her things. I thought that was funny so I did something similar. As for why she gave him an herb there, and why she wouldn't have just given it to him anyway, I don't really have an answer for that to be honest. I suppose that's just one of those oldschool rpg throwbacks... Like why you're allowed to wander through towns stealing things out of people's cupboards or treasure boxes.

author=demonlord5000
11. On some maps, theres dirt terrain marking your way to the next map, and on others it seems it doesn't matter (when moving through maps in the village going left/right, and vise versa.
I put those paths on the ground to make the town seem less empty. Maybe some of them lined up with previously existing teleports, maybe some of them didn't. That wasn't the intention when they were put in.

author=demonlord5000
12. You're is misused in a sentence, and I assume wards is meant to be words.
13. Theo says: you have the nerve to ask what, I assume what is meant to be that.
I will assume those are probably just typos.

author=demonlord5000
14. How did theo know that rolf was the son of his enemy? I don't recall anybody revealing that information to him. Smelling his taint doesn't really seem to be a good answer to that.
The answer to this question is fully revealed far later on in the game. Suffice it to say "smelling his taint", however lol worthy, makes much more sense after that revelation.

author=demonlord5000
15. I'm in the second town, and there is an npc who can walk on the houses opening. It's two tiles high, and she can walk on both. This is on the map to the left of the doctors office.
This is one of those things that no matter how hard i try I can never completely fix in rm2k. The only way to completely stop this from happening is to custom script a "random" movement script for every npc. I expect you may encounter this a few times in the game.

author=demonlord5000
16. when rolf is talking to the doctor (the scene at night), my father once told me is not a complete sentence.
That is correct. I would need to see what I was talking about at the time to figure oiut what he was supposed to be saying XD

author=demonlord5000
17. even though he didnt get sleep, shouldn't he of been healed after those scenes? Well, the inn is cheap, so I don't mind either way.
Probably. I might've done that to show that he didn't actually get any rest. If I were to tweak the game further I would probably allow that event to fully heal him.

Quick edit: Forgot to mention that mapping errors will not be posted here, as while I think your mapping could use a bit of work, I'm going to leave it up to you on whether to do that. Right now it's tolerable.
If you think the mapping in the intro area (first continent) is bad now, you should've seen it before the full version release. I had reworked most maps before that. They look a lot better now than they did before the full version release... and they're not very good right now, so use your imagination.

I'm thankful for the feedback you're providing me. To be honest it's the first time anyone's played the game AND thought enough of it to bother mentioning it's problems to me.

edit:
before you mention it, I am aware that the word "definite" is spelled "definite" and not "definate". That one's tricky, but back then I spelled it wrong without knowing, and couldn't be bothered to find all instances of it in the original game.
Heh, I'll give ya the young thing, despite the fact I'm 22 and that's only 5 years younger. I'm probably one of the most dangerous testers around when I get serious. Speaking of that, let's get on with the game!

Bug testing....part 2!

1. During the castle battle, why is it you fight an underwater monster, in a room with no water?

2. There is a woman asking about rope in the dormatories. I picked up the rope at the beginning of the game, but it's not showing that I have it, and I assume it was meant to be given to her.

3. While most people now recognize you as part of the army, the guard captain still says don't keep the general waiting.

4. I talked to the guy who initiates the dodge the monster minigame, and practicing is spelt wrong.

5. I see the bedroom for the princess, but why is there no kings bedroom in the castle? You could always put a guard in front of it saying that I can't enter.

6. I picked up Melissa, but it is weird my guy is still wearing his armor, when he is no longer in the army. The map is also weird how it doesn't scroll down with your character. Seems to only be after you pick her up though.

5. Now the game doesn't give me any direction at all. It's useful knowing where you need to go lol.

6. On to the quest for the bracelet...stingy priestess wouldn't lend me a monk :(.

7. I forgot to mention this earlier, but you really should put some sort of sign outside item/weapon/armor shops, so you don't have to hunt them down. In this case I had to hunt down the item shop, cause I wanted to restock after getting the stone.

It seems the bridge is out in the cave, and with that I'm taking a break. I'll figure out what to do later.

Your posting these seems to have sparked some kind of popularity explosion on the game. I just got a PM concerning the very last thing you said.

author=demonlord5000
1. During the castle battle, why is it you fight an underwater monster, in a room with no water?
I think my intention was that the room filled with water. Obviously I never showed that before the battle (derp)

author=demonlord5000
2. There is a woman asking about rope in the dormatories. I picked up the rope at the beginning of the game, but it's not showing that I have it, and I assume it was meant to be given to her.
I think I made it so that you could only give that lady the rope after you become a knight (and get the armor thing). There was also another side quest in the castle about a missing ring (I think) that is similar. This was to prevent you from "wasting" the bonus experience given if completed it while you were still kid rolf (and a different Hero ID). It appears as though you can only give the rope to her when you're young rolf. It checks your inventory to find the rope you're supposed to have, and then give it to her. I checked the event where you take the rope and I see that it should give you the rope. It could be possible that another event somewhere else takes the rope from your inventory, but I'm not sure where that would be. It could also be possible that you took the rope in one playthrough, died, or reloaded an earlier save and forgot to take the rope afterward.

author=demonlord5000
3. While most people now recognize you as part of the army, the guard captain still says don't keep the general waiting.
I looked at that event and it appears as though he should say something different after you become armored rolf. At this point I should ask if you purchased the townhouse or if you decided to live in the barracks. This way I can pinpoint which event(s) didn't trigger that switch as they should have.

author=demonlord5000
4. I talked to the guy who initiates the dodge the monster minigame, and practicing is spelt wrong.
D'oh.

author=demonlord5000
5. I see the bedroom for the princess, but why is there no kings bedroom in the castle? You could always put a guard in front of it saying that I can't enter.
I'm not going to justify this, but maybe the king sleeps in a hidden underground bunker beneath the throne that only his most trusted advisers know about. You don't know. (obvious sarcasm)

author=demonlord5000
6. I picked up Melissa, but it is weird my guy is still wearing his armor, when he is no longer in the army. The map is also weird how it doesn't scroll down with your character. Seems to only be after you pick her up though.
I had thought I fixed this, but the glitch seems to crop up randomly. I think it has something to do with the computer the game is run on, but I'm not sure. I used the pan screen command in the event where you get her in the party, but for some reason the screen won't return back to the hero so long as you stay on that map (at least on some computers). If I tell it to return to where it was, it will scroll way down to the doorway where you entered, and will not be fixed on the hero, and if I leave it, it won't scroll with the hero. In retrospect (and perhaps with more knowledge of the kinks in the engine) I know now that a teleport event to the same place you're standing should fix it completely.

author=demonlord5000
5. Now the game doesn't give me any direction at all. It's useful knowing where you need to go lol.
Originally I had someone at the monastery tell you that something weird was in the cave to the southwest, but it made it seem like I was spoonfeeding where the player had to go. I wanted this point to seem like the world was wide open to you, however, the two caves you can't do anything in yet are blockaded at the beginning, preventing you from passing. Naturally a quick process of elimination leads you in the right direction. I see it took a minute, but you got it, so I can't be all wrong. XD

author=demonlord5000
6. On to the quest for the bracelet...stingy priestess wouldn't lend me a monk :(.
Yeah, she is kind of a douche ;)

author=demonlord5000
7. I forgot to mention this earlier, but you really should put some sort of sign outside item/weapon/armor shops, so you don't have to hunt them down. In this case I had to hunt down the item shop, cause I wanted to restock after getting the stone.
Some of the stores in some towns do have signs on them. Others did not as the chipset I used in some didn't have proper signage. I think they become more common in the later towns. To be fair, to make sure you don't miss out on hidden treasure (and "hilarious" books) you should check out every building in a new town anyway :p

author=demonlord5000
It seems the bridge is out in the cave, and with that I'm taking a break. I'll figure out what to do later.
Unless the event is broken entirely, I'm sure when you get to the map and the bridge is out, if you go back two maps previous (to the one before the box with the stone) and push the button again, the spikes around the box with the stone go up, and the bridge is in.

Now that I recall, this game won a misao award the year it was released for those easter-egg books on the bookshelves. Funny how they're dreadful and a tad annoying by today's standard eh?
Heh yeah. I tend to check npcs after every major thing, so when they should say something, and when they do say something different, is slightly off. For example, I checked with the guy right after I got my Id badge proving that I'm in the army but before I became armored rolf. Same thing happened when I needed to see the king about getting through the cave. I slept in my house with melissa, and before talking to the king, I talked to the two others, and they still acted like it was the past day. Now I just made myself curious on what happens if I didn't get the house there >.<.

I think those spikes should be up by default, and the bridge be accessible by default, because I completely overlooked that switch, and the chest is meant to be optional. Normally I don't miss things, you made that switch blend in quite well.

On that note, time to head back, I just found a certain hidden item past the bridge. On second thought, I'll wait, till I need to go back that way.

1. When you try to exit the cave, your magically transported back a few spaces into a scene, with a ??? guy in front of you. I would also like to mention that before you fight him, sometimes his name appears as vernan, instead of ???.

2. In the cave with the visual spike trick, theres a bat that just floats there and doesn't chase ya.

3. In meredian castle throne room, the 4 royal guyards across from each other don't have typos, but the two beside the king and advisor say: welcome ot the throne room. Yes, though you probably doubt it, I do in fact check every single npc, even if it's believed they will say the same thing.

4. I can't seem to access the house in meridia near the logs. There is two sideways ones next to each other, and the one i'm trying to enter is the one above the house with a woman cooking a soldier all his fav foods, and it also had a book about butter in it. Actually there were 2 houses I couldn't enter, but I guess they were intentional.

5. Vickey says the instead of they, when asking why they aren't locked up.

Sweet, an actual useful book in meridia :D. Some useful stuff in meridia. Geez, those stone monsters are brutal, I decided to check out the first cave and was forced to escape. I know I'm not going back there for awhile.

6. You can walk on a part of the inns roof in meridia.

7. With this last one, a game ending bug (taking a break). Once you get the strength bracelet and backtrack to the cave, I used it to get that one treasure chest I couldn't access before, but if you go over to the next map, the spikes are too close to where you appear, and thus get stuck there. You have to head toward an exit, to exit a map, walking in front of it does nothing, and thus I am stuck.. I'll use a previous save.

Glad I'm getting ya some popularity, and this is a good chance for ya to fix this up :).

It's ironic as a commercial game I was playing a few days ago had this same problem XD

author=demonlord5000
2. In the cave with the visual spike trick, theres a bat that just floats there and doesn't chase ya.

I just checked and for some reason the ai control event on that map only has info for one monster. That'd explain why the second one doesn't move or do anything.

I think that's awesome, as I obviously didn't check all of them. It does however raise a question about why didn't I copy+paste those events as I should have, or if I did and noticed a typo on some of them, why didn't I fix it on all of them, though.

author=demonlord5000
4. I can't seem to access the house in meridia near the logs. The map info shows me that there is no entrance to the upper house. I guess I should have added a "door locked" event or something on it.

author=demonlord5000
5. Vickey says the instead of they, when asking why they aren't locked up.

I think the reason why you're finding more typos at this point in the game is because this part is after the original demo, so I had less people playing it, and 90% less playthroughs myself here. (because I played the demo like 940437034 times to iron out the kinks, but probably only played the full version a dozen or so times)

author=demonlord5000
Sweet, an actual useful book in meridia :D. Some useful stuff in meridia. Geez, those stone monsters are brutal, I decided to check out the first cave and was forced to escape. I know I'm not going back there for awhile.

Which cave are we talking about here?
If we're talking about the one on the northeastern end of the first continent (north east of Dera) those enemies are weak against magic attacks. VERY weak against magic attacks. By now you should have at least one black mana stone so you should have some kind of offensive magic spell. Don't be afraid to use it.

author=demonlord5000
6. You can walk on a part of the inns roof in meridia.

I seriously re-used the chipset in the second game (although I edited a few chips as needed) as the beginning takes place in Meridia. I fixed this problem in the second game after noticing it in a demo I released. I guess the problem came from the original game XD

author=demonlord5000
7. With this last one, a game ending bug (taking a break). You have to head toward an exit, to exit a map, walking in front of it does nothing, and thus I am stuck.. I'll use a previous save.

I see what happened here. You went back into the "northwest cavern" and flicked the switch a few maps in to get the box that was 2 maps in. But instead of going back to the switch and flicking it a second time to get back out, you went back immediately and got stuck as the spikes were up. This is certainly an overlooked game breaking flaw. The spikes on that map need to be moved over a space, or the teleports need to be changed to allow you to teleport off them without having to walk onto them.

author=demonlord5000
Glad I'm getting ya some popularity, and this is a good chance for ya to fix this up :).

It sure is.
Yeah, I know some commercial games like that. Of course I've played most of the good rpgs out there, so I'd know. I even know what your username is from :).

Heh, the cave with the stone worbits is the one I meant. They do a good 75 damage to rolf...and this is with him defending! They can do 160-170 damage when he isn't defending, and he only has 245 health at this point. I think it's a cave that's meant to be accessed much later, but there is an enemy in front of the stone boulders, not to mention they are incredibly powerful this early in the game.

1. In ruiga, the weapon shopkeeper contradicts himself. When you first talk to him, he says: we don't have much of what meridia has, but what we do have is better, then after I close the shop after buying his weapons he says: ok I lied, what we do have is better. In both cases he says there better, so how did he lie?

Man, those gunners can be brutal, glad I have earthquake.

2. In kurne two different maps leading to the right lead to the same area with the rumor about the disappearing house.

Why does kurne not have revival powder :(. I wanted to buy some!

4. In the robotic tower, on either the 3rd or 4th floor (forgot which one this is), there is an endless maze with a single loader on it. I think there should be a way to distinguish the door you came through, and the door to the next floor, on this particular floor.

On my way to the second tower, though I will never know why the android sent me to the tower further away first. I'm also enjoying the fact I have terrible luck, as vernan keeps dying to critical hits.

Well practically got rich off the new monsters, and bought a ton of items. I'm saved outside the second system, and now it's time for a break!

Yeah, I know some commercial games like that. Of course I've played most of the good rpgs out there, so I'd know. I even know what your username is from :).

I hope everyone should know. Back when I started using this as my name I had to explain it to everyone. That game is nothing short of an awesome cult classic nowadays though.

author=demonlord5000

Ah, forgot about that. I put that one monster there as a sort of "beat it if you can" type challenge. At the time when you're actually going through that particular cavern, those aren't very difficult.

After reading this I immediately looked at his dialogue. At first I thought I meant to make him say "don't", as in "we don't have anything better than Meridia", but an inspection of both store's wares reveals that as a lie. I'm not sure what I was going for to be honest. XD

Man, those gunners can be brutal, glad I have earthquake.

I let the cat out of the bag before you got there, saved you an "oh shit heal!" moment. XD

2. In kurne two different maps leading to the right lead to the same area with the rumor about the disappearing house.

I looked at the map files, and the two maps that both lead to the same map are connected vertically. I think I intended to have two right side maps (one for the main map to the tight, and one for the back map to the right), but mapped the town so that the two of those maps could both lead into the one map on the right. Looking at it now makes me want to redo it entirely, as it looks dumb. Someone who reviewed this game a looooong time ago told me that Kurne was the most well-built town he'd ever seen. Either he was lying, or the standards have really changed since then. XD

author=demonlord5000
Why does kurne not have revival powder :(. I wanted to buy some!

That's a good question. The other stores in other towns all have it sooo... I probably just left it out accidentally.

author=demonlord5000
3. The robotic cleaners in kurne tend to get in the way...a lot! Lower there move speed or something, they constantly get in my way, and one time kept me out of a house I wanted to enter for a good 20 seconds!

I'm glad they're doing their job then. XD
Some of them are set to move in a set pattern, some move randomly, and others follow you. I think I was gonna make it so that after you see one for the first time, talking to it will make rolf boot it out of the way. Alas, that was another intention that remained missing. XD

4. In the robotic tower, on either the 3rd or 4th floor (forgot which one this is), there is an endless maze with a single loader on it. I think there should be a way to distinguish the door you came through, and the door to the next floor, on this particular floor.

There is. There are little green dots on the wall on both sides of the doors. The dots are located in black vertical slots. The door that leads up the tower has the dot on the top end of it (to say this goes up) and the one that goes down a floor has the dot on the bottom end of the slot (going down). It's subtle, but it's there. XD

author=demonlord5000
On my way to the second tower, though I will never know why the android sent me to the tower further away first. I'm also enjoying the fact I have terrible luck, as vernan keeps dying to critical hits.

The systems you're going to are numbered, and he had to visit them in sequence (presumably). It just happened that the first system was the farthest away. (definitely not because I was trying to stretch out the walking distance, no sir) The agility stat in rm2k and rm2k3 are bugged pretty hardcore. My intention on some enemies was to make them attack first, only to discover that agility affects critical hit rate but a substantial amount. Fast enemies tend to strike first and critically hit you. Kinda sucks really, but nothing I could do about it at the time.

author=demonlord5000
We;;, practically got rich off the new monsters, and bought a ton of items. I'm saved outside the second system, and now it's time for a break!

I'm thrilled that you're still playing it! :)
Hmm...I could of swore I put well, and not we;; earlier...oh well, fixed it. Anyways sounds like I can make real good use of that time shift ability I have on all three of the characters that can learn it. I've gotten quite a few good ability drops in fact. I think it was the cleaners following me that constantly got in front of me and blocked my path. I did talk to em before ya even mentioned it, but alas to no avail. As for my mana stones...I surely haven't been using them on all on my high magic powered priestess who has almost double the mp of my other two characters combined.

Anyways...onward to hunting zodiac stones!....oh wait nvm I'm just hunting haywire androids...oh well. Wonder if theres any hidden water springs in the tower, so I can gather it and short curcuit them...oh well probably not. Making them stumble over with earthquake is always funny too!

1. It's a shame that the equipment bot 2000 in the second tower doesn't buy my items, it would save me a trip to town.

2. Found the frost axe, but it seems kind of pointless seeing I can just use frost swing, with my higher attack weapon.

Interesting...a measly 10 iseba for finding his coffee...nah joking, I got 5000 exp too. I didn't fall for that trap.

3. In perush, there is an area with one of those coverings over it (the same covering as all the doors have over them), to the left, and it makes me think I should be able to access another map there, but it doesn't let me.

Now for a really long walk >.<. Since you telepored me so far away, I think I'll take another break. That and I have something I need to do.

No, of course not. *wink*
I think I put enough mana stones in the game that everyone can get all the spells they can get.

You're not supposed to know about any zodiac stones!
Earthquake is fun too, sure, but keep in mind everyone could be laying the smackdown on those robots with spells if you actually teach them how.

1. It's a shame that the equipment bot 2000 in the second tower doesn't buy my items, it would save me a trip to town.

I did that for a reason. I don't recall it at present, but I think it was a feasibility thing. Why would the equipment bot purchase things from you if he has no way to get rid of them (or to resell them)?

author=demonlord5000
2. Found the frost axe, but it seems kind of pointless seeing I can just use frost swing, with my higher attack weapon.

Somehow I got the idea that having a weaker elementally effective weapon and hitting an enemy with the frost swing move would make the attack double-super-effective. This is not the case.

author=demonlord5000

Lol, being greedy nets you a crappy reward. Refusing the reward shows you were just trying to help, so you get some experience :)

I think I see the place you're talking about. I think I intended an alleyway or something there. It's probably not a secret to you at this point that I'm not very good at mapping (even worse back when this was made), and I don't really like it. It's noticeable that I laid out what needed to be mapped ahead of time, and then cut corners when it came to making it (look at the second system for example).

Now for a really long walk >.<. Since you telepored me so far away, I think I'll take another break. That and I have something I need to do.

That's a bit of a recurring theme. XD
Yeah I noticed. I've also noticed that the random monsters I encounter now are much more brutal than bosses. Confusion as well as having resistance to magic make the ants a bit annoying to kill, and the cave before that was even more brutal. Those worbits are just brutal, if they don't kill one of my guys they petrify one. I prepared for this and bought 10 of each status element cure luckily.

Anyways, my point is, the forest guardian was a total pushover compared to those. He had a bit of hp but nothing that could really damage me. Short out makes the robots a total pushover.

1. In the desert there is a tough looking guy, but the name is tought looking guy.

2. When the mysterious thief runs off, he runs off to the left leading to an obvious dead end. I guess he used a secret passage or something to escape.

One has to wonder why the mayor has the keys, shouldn't the demi humans inside the temple have them?

3. Inside the temple, they talk about me walking into the treasure vault, but in fact I landed there by falling through a floor. I'd also like to mention they walked further away from me, than toward me to engage that battle.

4. When you obtain the last box key (not door key), you should have the illusion wear off in that room, so you dont have to randomly search for your way back.

Well, now I'm using loki, and because of some bad luck I'm taking a break.

I always found confusion to be a really bad status effect. If I make it's effect chance below a certain point, it never works and is virtually useless, and if I turn it up past a certain point it becomes too effective and can really destroy you. I tend not to use status effects in boss fights. Or I didn't in this game, I should say.

As long as you go through the boss fights and you find them total pushovers, you're doing fine. If you skip too many fights on the way however, then you'll find them impossible, and you'll know why someone advises you not to skip fights in the beginning of the game.

Damnable typos.

author=demonlord5000
2. When the mysterious thief runs off, he runs off to the left leading to an obvious dead end. I guess he used a secret passage or something to escape.

That is implied, yes. If you haven't walked into the dead-end alley prior to that, you might also think that the obvious thief put on a fake beard and hat and hid in plain sight. That can't be true, however, as the man was there prior to the theif running off (whether you saw him before this or not)

author=demonlord5000
One has to wonder why the mayor has the keys, shouldn't the demi humans inside the temple have them?

I think the obvious answer to this statement is that I did that whole keys/boxes/doors thing to make you have to backtrack through the temple a bunch of times (padding the game length was what all the cool kids were doing at the time). However, the mayor of the town (or the warden which is a more appropriate term) had obtained those boxes through violence against the jabar. Numerous skirmishes eventually allowed them to acquire the boxes, but some of the high ranking jabars had the actual keys to them. I'm not sure if the mayor tells you what's in the other boxes from the beginning, but he shouldn't have known what was in the locked boxes, as he'd never opened them before. *Continuity Error*

3. Inside the temple, they talk about me walking into the treasure vault, but in fact I landed there by falling through a floor. I'd also like to mention they walked further away from me, than toward me to engage that battle.

There were actually two ways to get into that room. If you walk past the obvious switch on the first floor and open the door, it leads right into the treasure vault. If you hit the switch, it's then stuck and you can't get inside that way anymore. However if you did that, you can still fall through the ceiling. I checked the event and it looks like if you fall in through the roof he should walk up, and if you walk in he should walk down. If you fall through the roof, you should also see Rolf actually fall in from the roof. If you saw him fall, but the jabar inside the room walked the wrong way, that'd be some weird glitch.

author=demonlord5000

I completely agree.

Well, now I'm using loki, and because of some bad luck I'm taking a break.

When you're saying you had bad luck, does that mean you got one-shot critical murdered? Or some kind of game flaw/crash I should know about?
Nah, I lost in the one on one fight against the armored robot in the cave (I forgot it's actual name). I had 175 health left, and I figured since his strongest attack ususlly does around 150 I'd wait one more round to heal, and when he attacked, he conveniently did the exact damage as I had in hp, so he did 175 damage. With this comment, I'm picking the game back up now! As for confusion, those ants weren't much of a threat, it was mainly the monsters in the cave, before getting back to the forest.

I won't be taking any chances this round with the arm bot either! I do find it ironic my best move against him is satellite, and the satellite conveniently shoots a beam at him, when your inside a cave. Nothing ya can do about it, I just find it funny.

1. I decided to check and see how the storytelling old man was doing. He told me a new one about the legacy, but there is a bug here. Even though you did predict the player on going there, you forgot to change the comments when the player checks his bookcases. So even though its only loki, if I check the bookcases I see rolf in the textbox. Actually this is the same with all the old mans items.

Now I just had a theory, but I am unable to test it at this point. It's very very unlikely this would ever happen, but what if someone searched the treasure book in meridian while as rolf, and then waited till they were controlling loki to search that area? Even though you can't enter meridian as loki, the area outside meridian is. In that instance I think the textbox would say rolf as well, but I cant test that theory now. I like predicting every possible outcome as you can tell lol.

Hmm thinking back, he said he didn't want people to know he was an android, how did that little girl know to sell repair kits to him? Well no matter, I should start moving forward in the game again.

2. When hitching a ride, the boat movement is really choppy. It moves, stops. move, stops...etc.

3. When you talk to the elder when your using Rolf again, it takes you into a bunch of scenes while your sleeping at the inn. The catch is, you can do this before talking to cyris and taLking to the inn keeper. I don't see why he sees theos past to begin with, but oh well. Guess it's something to do with gaias blessing.

Found the elementals, but I find it strange I only get a new fire spell, unless these are all meant for vernan. I have my guys good at air/fire/earth, but vernan is my weakest one, and he got the fire spell. I didn't get a new earth or air spell for my other two characters :(. My other guess is that vernan learns all the elemtal spells, but only as he gets strong enough in levels.

Found the monk, only to find out melissa can't learn any more white magic :(. I find it funny she says come back when you find more (or) learn about the machines. He learned about the machines very early in the game.

4. When talking to a demi human in the village, he mentions a bracelet, but he says it as braceelet. Interesting is typed as INteresting.

5. I went straight past palamencia, used the top path (surprisingly this top narrow one let me through, when the bigger one to the south wouldnt), and ended up at a town, that when I tried to enter, it said I needed to head to the tower to the south, when I'm supposed to be headed to Palamencia. Granted I'm not even supposed to have access to getting to this town yet lol.

6. When loki is talking to vatu, you forgot a period in one of the sentences. Make that two periods so far.

Sweet, vatu is actually a challenge, but that's probably due to me not leveling up mary.

Ahh the irony, they wake up in a monestary....in the same bed.

7. The first priest I talk to has a typo. He says coe instead of come.

I just noticed this, but why is the ribbon a helmet and not an accessory?

Well anyways, I'm stopping at the monastery. I need a break lol. This is the extremely dangerous tester demon signing out for now!

Yeah. I wish it was possible to situationally disable some skills based on location, but most of the battles in the game take place in caverns or buildings, so satellite would wind up being virtually useless.

I just checked, and the meridian treasure that loki could find (through the method you described) does in fact have a separate page for if you're controlling loki at the time you find it. However, I noticed by looking at it that if you manage to get back there while controlling Rolf, after you've been controlling Loki, it'll still have the dialogue as if you were controlling loki.

Actually that was an interjection from Theo's mind. Rolf hasn't actually seen it. It's like one of those things where it cuts away from the heroes to show what the bad guys are doing at that moment. In retrospect, it would make more sense if we saw that while they were sleeping. XD

My other guess is that vernan learns all the elemtal spells, but only as he gets strong enough in levels.

Vernan's use of magic is pretty terrible. Those elemental demi-humans teach him how to use the strongest spell of the element he has been set to. Technically he could learn something from all of them, but only from one of them per playthrough, as he can only get a spell from the one whose element he is set to. They only teach it to him because I was trying to find a way to make his magic a bit stronger in the game without having to re-do the magic learning system (have you looked at that monster in the game editor? XD).

author=demonlord5000
Found the monk, only to find out melissa can't learn any more white magic :(. I find it funny she says come back when you find more (or) learn about the machines. He learned about the machines very early in the game.

I think that happened because of my forgetting to change the string she says at the end of being summoned in that town. It'd be simple to fix that by just changing what's being said in that instance. I think I probably changed it in the others, but forgot in this one.

I think what I had originally set up was the inability to cross the continent that way due to it being very narrow, and having a chip you couldn't cross near the middle. I later changed it to make that chip passable (probably one of the corner edge of the landmass chips) which inadvertently allowed you to get through there.

The only ability that increases as mary gets levels is her MAG. I doubt it has much of an effect on the strength of her skills, either.

I just noticed this, but why is the ribbon a helmet and not an accessory?

Well anyways, I'm stopping at the monastery. I need a break lol. This is the extremely dangerous tester demon signing out for now!

Because you wear it on your head. XD
This has been a great testing up to this point. Using your notes afterwards, I will probably go through and repair the issues (and redo some of the really bad parts of the game). Your playing it renewed my faith that anyone played it in the first place (even though it was released almost 6 years ago).
Yeah lol. I think the main problem when it came to playing it in the past was that quiz minigame. It even stopped me back then, but that's because those odd numbered names threw me off. The thing where the priestess talks about the machine happens in quite a few towns actually, but for some reason I didn't mention it till now. That ribbon threw me off cause in most games it's an accessory, and I don't think I'll be sacrificing my defense for it, as monsters hurt enough as it is lol. Onward with the tests!

1. This bug is...the one...the only...the finding of a typo! During the trials, when your using vernan and talk to mary, none is spelled non.

2. I'm looking for a place to train before the trials (appears there isn't one), and I find out the tower is still standing, even though they said it exploded! If you go in, it just really bad glitches.

Perhaps you should put an optional cave on this place for those who want to train, and get some cash. I think I can handle the darkened one, last time I forgot to cast flame barrier, so two of my characters were instantly killed. I don't use maria, and melissa has a low hp amount throughout the whole game.

This time I didn't even make it past the dragon. That fire attack is brutal when he spams it. It did slightly over half his total hp when it killed me. I was slightly over 400 hp when I died.

Alright..,..450 damage with one breath attack is just insane. Two of those would mean 900 damage, and rolf only has 800 health. These last few battles i've been trying to raise his physical defense/speed, but he won't let me. He doesn't have anything to boost magic defense. I'll post more once I get past it.

Edit: Found another bug. If you try to take the southern pass around, it stops you and says loki is probably at the tower, but I'm already past that.

Heh, beat the dragon again. I restocked my stronger herbs so it didn't matter if he spammed. Luckily i had some money left.

Alright...I officially can't beat the darkened one. I used flame barrier, and I got unaffected for every single party member, and his flame attack one hit kills two of my characters (melissa and mary). This is why I need a training spot or something >.<.
hmm
according to the monster database, that boss shouldn't spam the dark flame attack. I didn't make it so he uses it every so many turns, but the priority on it is low. he shouldn't use it more than once every 5 rounds or so (if it does I guess we could call it bad luck). as bad as it sounds, you should be able to revive two dead people after they were killed the previous round, if you have enough revival powders, anyway. So worst case scenario is to revive melissa and mary every round, and have melissa fully heal herself and vernan on her turn, (if she can). I think based on your suggestion, a training area may be a good addition to help solve this problem though. Keep at it, you're so close, though.

edit:
if you use the MAG up spell, it will increase your resistance to magical attacks, like the one this boss uses (if you have it). It may even be more effective than the barrier spells, I'm not entirely sure if these actually have a noticeable effect on spell resistance.
