RMN Christmas Card 2009

While I'm not sure there's quite enough content here to warrant a full in-depth review, I didn't want to pass up the chance to share my impressions! This game is simply adorable, through and through. It isn't contrived, or needlessly complicated, it just lets itself be a cute, fun experience, which was probably best.

The visuals are stunning for such a short game... much of the content I hardly recognized, yet it all fit together pretty perfectly. Character sprites are nicely edited--and the NPCs are adequately matched up with their forum counterparts. To be clear, this game didn't look like a silly community project (which it is), but instead appeared far better than most full-length projects I've seen. And that's saying something, I think!

The music and sound is what's to be expected, but that doesn't mean it's a bad selection. The Christmas songs actually set the mood fairly well, and manage to set a quaint little ambience. The one little segment with the forum posts and hysterical, endless cackling (and AFD posts) actually caused me to burst out laughing to myself-- it was definitely a nice touch!

All together, the project was honestly just purely entertaining, and considering how jaded many of our members have become, it's quite the breath of fresh air. I dare-say that many more 'serious' games should learn from the light-hearted tone, and maybe take themselves a bit less seriously! =]
