Vindication is a traditional RPG created in RPG Maker 2003 over the course of more than five years. It uses a real-time battle system similar to Final Fantasy games from the SNES and PSX eras. The game is about 15-30 hours long and features several side-quests and multiple difficulty settings, with eight major playable characters.

Vindication is a constant barrage of off-the-wall comedy; a game where eccentric characters encounter absurd situations non-stop. The humor assaults the player at full-speed as the characters are assaulted by 80s style robots from the future, struck by meteors, and forced to take pity on villains who try their best to be evil but fail miserably.

But in its more serious moments, Vindication is primarily the story of one man, James Clyde. His quest for revenge against those who have wronged him rules his life, but begins to conflict with his desire to protect his daughter, while a force capable of destroying the world is left unchecked, even encouraged. It is an epic tragedy hidden within a whirlwind of wacky hijinks and terrible puns.

While unarguably a story-driven game, Vindication also strives to create a meaningful challenge for the player. Each character has a unique set of abilities which must be utilized to their fullest to overcome a variety of obstacles. Constant party changes and splits keep you on your toes and require you to come up with new battle strategies constantly, while still rewarding you for developing your team members and building your strength. On the harder difficulty setting, the game plays almost like a survival horror game, with very limited resources and no way to replenish them, forcing you to manage your items wisely in order to survive the dungeons and defeat the bosses, which are stronger and faster than usual.

Remember when I actually used to make games? Me neither.

I've finished this game now, but James', Ginny's and Justin's fate was kinda left unknown. What exactly happened in that big explosion?
LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

James parried the explosion, he is completely fine.
Justin's body was torn apart and his brain had to be transplanted into the body of a 10 year old girl. He continues to rule the world as its evil emperor.
Ginny opened a boutique where she now sells fabulous shoes.

Ah okay :V At least Justin's family is not 'extinct.'
Why people mistake Danica for a man, and was he- she meant to be a playable character?

Actually yeah, in early versions Danica was to be a playable character, while Calla was supposed to only be a temporary character who never rejoined. Eventually Danica's character and backstory got tossed out like old garbage and replaced with Calla on the final team. Danica still got a cameo in the first town, because I think a 35 year old idiotic female barbarian who everyone thinks is a man despite looking like a typical anime girl is too hilarious to leave out entirely.

Yeah well, I had an itch in my ass that she was to be a playable character, 35-year old in fifth grade is quite suspicious. I'll review the game soon, since none has yet reviewed this.

Game updated. The main change this time is that the hideous Terra Deep riddle - which was so hard that people thought it was a bug - is now optional. It leads to some treasure, but you can go through the dungeon without solving it.
Ok...
I loved this game but I'm actually hatin' you because I won't end it.
I made 2 save file and they fitted for a lot. After the 1st guardian I stopped overwritin and created a THIRD save file. Got to new teki after A LOT OF TRAINING (Everyone at 60) and when I went to the save point the game crashed and telling me that "there's not enough memory" the save file has disappeared. Now I won't begin again the 4 hours training I need from the save file I've still in and I won't finish the game.
On the other hand... it's been a pleasure beatin this game so far.
Sorry for this stupid major bug, but I hope you can fix it for someone else's gameplay.
Superes, you're the victim of a relatively rare bug in RPG Maker 2000 & 2003 games where once the music stops and doesn't come back, if you then try to save your game, you will get that "not enough memory" error and your save file will become corrupted.

This is not the fault of LockeZ (who made this game) and there's nothing he can do about it.

The only thing you can do is to work around this bug by doing the following:

1) Make sure you DON'T SAVE if the background music suddenly cuts out and doesn't return without first making a backup copy of your save file FIRST.

2) Constantly make multiple saves in case one of them gets corrupted anyway.

3) Shut down the game completely every hour or so, after saving, then restart from your last save. This prevents the "not enough memory" error from happening. More than likely the cause is a memory leak in the program that can lead to this error if the program is left running too long.

I actually believe I fixed the problem. It was caused by a problem with a buggy midi file - it worked fine in normal media players and even when played from the maker's music database. I fixed it by converting the midi to an MP3, so the error should not happen any more.
After all your pimping I decided to try out your game. Maybe for reviewing. After a first play these are my initial impressions (I'm probably going to try it out some more later): It shouldn't be possible to die before the first save point unless you just stand there waiting for death.

I died. Maybe I'm a moron.
its like dawns light only evil and challenging.

only complaint really is the ratio of cheese to genuine dark hehehe wtf moments but a generally positive experience.

I love games like this that don't take themselves too seriously and don't cower at the thought of offending some delicate individual.

Also you win the award for best in game tutorial EVER. Forced tutorials are always a sour experience but yours managed to make itself one of the best parts of the game.

Heh, you wanted a higher ratio of comedic to serious moments, or a lower one?

The comedy admittedly starts out a lot stronger than it ends, while the serious plot does the opposite. It's built like Disgaea in that regard - the game uses wacky antics and asinine dialogue to draw you in and get you attached to the characters, but behind the scenes, as it's doing that, it's also secretly building a real plot that's slowly coming to the forefront. By the time the conflict for the world is front and center, you care enough about James, Cole and Justin to *want* a real plot.
i would play it... except F*****G WINRAR IS TOO D**N COMPLICATED AND I CAN'T FIGURE OUT HOW TO PLAY RAR FILES!!!!!

...This game doesn't even come in a rar file. It comes in an automatic installer and puts a shortcut on your desktop.
wow, cool! thanks lokez. one comment though. jack looks a LIIITLE bit like cloud strife. be honest. did you model him after cloud? because if you did you're AWSOME.
FFVII FOREVER!!
Jack: okay, here's how you slash someone's spleen... Girl: AAHHH!!!! HELP MEEE!! AAHHH!! HE'S GONNA KILL MEEEE!!!!!! OH JEASUS HELP MMEEEE jack: what a baby! just shut up and i'll buy you an ice cream later, ok? Girl: AAAHHHH!!! HE'S KILLING MEEEEE!!!!!! HEELLLPPPP!!!! Jack: it's okay, you'll be fine! walk it off! now, class, this'll give you the upper hand if you're in a pinch... this is called the "Smackdown"... do this when the attacker is armed... THERE! all done! now wasn't that fun? Girl: ... Jack: Now that's the spirit!
well lockez I thought the beginning was the part. got less comedic like you said - make them laugh then thye make care for the plot.

A couple of things though. Really freaking hard mode seems to need some balancing. I played up to the fortress with James (before he trains and the teacher goes to mentist training).

The fight of the group of soliders/commander at fort entrance with him alone on rfh mode was impossible for me to win without resorting to freezing his hp value. I was like lv 16 or 18.

Then out of the blue James turns to lv32? (from his training- does it double levels or something?)

Also the fight with the teacher and james ... if you don't have an anti sleep equip you are pretty much screwed. It just feels like rfh mode spikes wildly in difficulty from not too much for a pro to wtf persona style mudo on you.

He gains levels from training, yeah. From that point until the end of the game, he's by far your strongest character. The game makes up for this by having a lot of sections where you can't use him. ;)

Oh yes, that particular fight is designed to make you scream in terror as soon as it starts. Sleep isn't actually very deadly, though, in a 1v1 fight against an enemy that uses only physical attacks. It's actually pretty useless, since both you and the enemy lose exactly one turn.

I'd write the review if I just had anything else to say other than comparing the game to Castlevania's difficulty and the steps until battle.
