Vindication is a traditional RPG created in RPG Maker 2003 over the course of more than five years. It uses a real-time battle system similar to Final Fantasy games from the SNES and PSX eras. The game is about 15-30 hours long and features several side-quests and multiple difficulty settings, with eight major playable characters.

Vindication is a constant barrage of off-the-wall comedy; a game where eccentric characters encounter absurd situations non-stop. The humor assaults the player at full-speed as the characters are assaulted by 80s style robots from the future, struck by meteors, and forced to take pity on villains who try their best to be evil but fail miserably.

But in its more serious moments, Vindication is primarily the story of one man, James Clyde. His quest for revenge against those who have wronged him rules his life, but begins to conflict with his desire to protect his daughter, while a force capable of destroying the world is left unchecked, even encouraged. It is an epic tragedy hidden within a whirlwind of wacky hijinks and terrible puns.

While unarguably a story-driven game, Vindication also strives to create a meaningful challenge for the player. Each character has a unique set of abilities which must be utilized to their fullest to overcome a variety of obstacles. Constant party changes and splits keep you on your toes and require you to come up with new battle strategies constantly, while still rewarding you for developing your team members and building your strength. On the harder difficulty setting, the game plays almost like a survival horror game, with very limited resources and no way to replenish them, forcing you to manage your items wisely in order to survive the dungeons and defeat the bosses, which are stronger and faster than usual.

The off-the-wall comedy is so sprinkled into every nook and cranny, and I didn't even read the description at first. I thought it was a joke game. Why are the "monsters" SIGNIFICANTLY larger than the heroes? I think it'd make more sense to actually map out battle backgrounds and screencap them if you're going for a tiny style. Anyhoo, I didn't know what to really expect from your screenshots. There are some bugs here and there that I won't go into, but other than that, I enjoyed it. "evil evil evil" was annoying as HELL, though. I majorly facepalmed. And the balancing of battles (freaking hard mode) I know it was hard mode. But the battles still could've used some tweaking. That's it from me, any more and I might as well review something.
Where are all these completed games coming from??

Anyway, this looks fairly interesting. I'll probably try this out when I have the time.
My first major game was called Vindication, way back in the day. If I was releasing it today, it would be about five-six years, too... Hmm.

It looked... different than this one did, though.

I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

Please send me a private message or an email if you find any bugs, no matter how minor. I would like to fix them before more people download it. And if you have a suggestion for what kind of screenshots to submit to give people a better impression of the game, please let me know.

I know the battles are quite hard compared to most commercial RPGs. But most commercial RPGs are very, very easy. Take Chrono Trigger, for instance. It is hard for me to imagine anyone dying in that game, except to one or two bosses, unless they literally had no idea how to play an RPG at all. If a game has no challenge, it is not much of a game. I strove to make a game where the battles could actually kill people - a novel idea in a day and age when most RPGs seem to think that the only think you should need to beat a game is time, not skill or thought.

That said, it's not really *that* hard, especially on normal mode where you can always get more items if you run out. And there's little or no "grinding" required on either difficulty. You may even find it helpful to run from battles sometimes.
If you wish creator of Vindication, I found some replacement music in wav. format for the midi versions

like

Knight of Fire from Xenogears, I replaced the midi version with the original version.

and some others. Just let me know if you want them.
Btw I like the game, quite off the wall, but its a breath of fresh air.

I am sure I could find MP3s for almost all the music, but I don't really want to make the game into a 150 MB download, because that is way too much for most people to bother with. Would people like it if I made a second version of the download that has high quality music?
the music is fine as is, just thought I throw in my two cents.
i tried to play vindication, but my comp must think it's a picture, because it opened in picture viewer and said "no preview available". it's really odd to me, anyone have any help with it?

The version of Vindication that I have up for download is just a zip file that contains a setup program. I tested it to make sure it works, and it seems okay to me. Maybe your download didn't finish properly and became corrupted, or maybe something is wrong with the way your computer handles zip files. Please email or message me if you need help.

Updated! Many bugs fixed, and some maps improved, among other smaller changes.
Just begin the game and find it too difficult, maybe the most difficult RPG i've played. I thought i already had plenty RPG experience, but still had a hard time, especially invading Justin's castle.

James's part is time-consumming, but not difficult, since he can put foes into asleep and then recover HP and MP when they can't cause threat. Cole's part is a bit difficult, but Cole and Tak are barely strong enough to cope with it. Calla's part is a nightmare...she is so weak, all she can do is attacking or "weapon break", which can only be used once in each battle. Not to mention those other Ex-pialid junks. All they can do is attacking or using item. Monsters here have too high HP, the battles takes really really long, very annoying. Those Ex-pialid junks have too low HP, thus they dies easily. If monsters focus attacing on the same one, none of those junks can survive, then another precious Miracle touch is consumed. That is, it heavily depends on luck. Any strategy here? Sorry, but No, since they don't have any skills. I ran out of "Crapple Potion" and "Miracle touch" several times and had to load previous savefile and try my "luck" another time. This is very time-consuming. It would be much more reasonable to allow players to save any time in the game, so they can load the game when they had a bad luck in previous battle.

RPG Maker makes battles run really slow. I wish I could actually just speed up everyone's turns by 50%. I realize you probably just want me to reduce enemy HP, but I feel that would make the game too easy. Sorry.

I'll definitely take your comments into consideration though. I admit James's section of Pialid Castle could stand to be less time-consuming. Or at least less boring. I'll try to find a solution to make Calla's section less nightmarish too. Maybe just buffing the poor Ex-Pialid saps a little. Thanks for the input!

Remember when I actually used to make games? Me neither.

Urrrggghhhh, the enemy encounter rate is ridiculously high. It's just like in FF2, you fight some enemies, then after five steps another battle comes. <_____>

I found it really annyoing to wander in Adamant Prison when 'bout 6 steps triggered a battle .__.

She got better. ^_^

It's okay, not everyone can appreciate brilliance.

Game updated! Some changes were made to early parts of the game to make it less tedious, including a slightly scarcer encounter rate, and a shop inside the first dungeon if you're not playing on hard mode.

Also, the font patch has been added to the main installer - it should no longer be necessary to download, but I'm leaving it up in case anyone has problems.
