"Well now, how did these little morsels make it so far
under their own power? I think I'll keep my eye on them."

Ill Will is a dungeon crawler with carefully crafted, minimalist story elements and simplified overall design. The combat uses a turn-based structure with a heavy emphasis on elemental affinities, and a streamlined AI routine for enemies that helps curb outright stupid behavoir.

It is very firmly divided between gameplay and plot, with decently-sized sessions of both, rather than a more rapid alternation.

Update ( 7/31/2012) - Completion

I'm marking this as being the 31st instead of the 1st, since I've been uploading since "yesterday".

Ill Will is complete. You can finish the story, choose either a normal New Game Plus (basically starting over) or a Strong New Game Plus (keep Traces, learned skills, and level, and re-allocate stats). Either way, you'll have access to additional story scenes, additions to existing scenes, and a very special something.

I might have a prize for the first person to beat the optional NG+ content. Of course, I might not.

can't make a bad game if you don't finish any games

I wouldn't be opposed to it.

I've been... indisposed. Part DS2 (CRAAAAAAZZZE), part making something new and wholly mine.

You might see in a period of 1d4 years.

Great! Some people are, so I just wanted to make sure. I'll probably be able to whip something up today.

Sounds interesting!

Edit: And done! It's rather light on story tropes because my memory's a bit hazy, and I also wanted to find something related to the mythological names used, but couldn't find anything that fit. The main summary could also use some work; I didn't really describe the characters much. Regardless, it's good enough for the moment. Do alert me if I've made any mistakes!
So, uh, sorry for the double post, but any word on the New Game+ bug?

I have been playing this for the past two hours or so.

It is very good, impressive in a way that is almost viscerally upsetting; i.e. I don't know why I haven't spent the last 1d4 years makings something this complete and polished. Life, I guess. *le sigh*

I would say that the gameplay is better than the graphics, and the graphics are better than the writing. Not that the writing is all that bad. Just that all of the main characters come off as very stupid for their failure to realize that they are obviously, obviously, obviously dead and in either hell or purgatory. Then again, it reminds me of the anime Gantz, and on the complete opposite end of the intellectual/cultural spectrum, Sartre ("Hell is other people"). These are good things.

"Foul Caller" was one of the best implemented (mini)bosses I have ever seen in an RM Game. I really, really like that what made him dangerous was not overwhelming statistical power (his individual attacks were actually fairly weak) but sinister strategic synergy (Poison + Sleep + Regen + Life Drain). It reminds me of what I have been trying to do since Mage Duel the first.

Anyway I will continue playing this--apparently there is a LOT of it left--when I can, in my spare time. It's frustrating, because I want to write a review right away, but I need to experience a LOT more of the game for that review to be remotely grounded in objective fact. I would probably be enjoying the game even more if I wasn't collecting review notes in my head the entire time, but such is life.

I have never played a Persona/SMT game, but if this is what they are like, I think I would enjoy them a lot.
I got one shotted twice during the very first battle. The monster cast strength field, attacked the very same turn and scored a critical which was enough to kill the main character in one go. This happened twice in a row. The third time I survived the first round and the game told me to guard if I know a strong attack is incoming. How is that supposed to work if the monster charges up their attack and unleashes it the very same turn?

Well, guarding until the monster runs out of SP does seem to work though. The game also got better after the very first battle was done.

WELCOME TO ILL WILL

I just experienced the same thing. Are you telling me that the author of the game intends for us to watch a ~5 minute dialogue scene to repeat the first battle until, by chance, we survive? That's utterly ridiculous.

Edit: I'm done. Twoshotted again. Max HP 55. 37 damage each turn by the initial zombie, what a joke!

Edit2: This has to be a bug. I edited the zombie to suck and clipped out the initial conversation. After i beat the first zombie I gain levels to go from level 1 straight to level 7. It seems that the game throws me into a new game+ right away.

Patch the game with this... This fixes the first combat (and a few more I think)
Loving the game but I seem to be getting a script error at the Gatekeeper at the end of the Ice realm. When the gatekeeper uses his skill Predator it causes a crash. The error message displays: script error scriptcustomskilleffectzbyline436 nomethod error has occured. This is the only error I've had so far in my playthrough and it has been a joy and a challenge playing this game so far. Thanks for all the efforts in creating such an enjoyable game.
The patch should fix that too.
Okay I just beat the two story line bosses of Eden and then the game places me just outside the boss room. When I go back in I see all the characters in the same positions as the cutscene before the boss fight and I can't do anything. And I have the patch installed

hi great game just end it and willing to play it gain but while playing on new game + after will leaves home game freezes just at the beagining thanks and hopping error is fix :)
Umm... is there any way to 'not' distribute stats? I want to just keep gaining points... hehee...
I like this project but theme is not good. So you can't edit pic. Because it is complete.
This may have already been addressed but Im having a problem with Flamberge. I already battled him a got his trace, but after the battle when I try to get back to the doors I have to battle him again. HELP
You don't have to battle him again; the necessary flags are still tripped. Go east and north to the door that was locked before to continue.
@argh thanks for the help, boy do I feel dumb. But now I am in the battle with Wills brother Raymond and I keep getting an error message:
Script 'Cusstom skill effects Z by Yanfily line 436: NOMethodError occured.
undefined method `*'

How can I fix this

There's no fix to it at the moment. The only way is to hope he doesn't use Predator on someone who's poisoned, causing the game to crash. Best way to reduce the chance of that happening is to make sure none of your characters are poisoned at all times.

I see, every time I tried to get my characters use predator the game would crash, so I guess for now the best solution is to keep the poison status off them. Thanks
Finally beat the game ^__^
All and all I say it pretty good I would rate it 3.8 of 5.
If you where charging for this game I would pay $6 for it on download.
Now that's has said anyone fixed this new game plus issue?
I checked all the pages on the forum but I dont see an answer, anyway it freezes at the beginning where the dogs barking and Loki just shows up.
I apologize for being a pain in the a$$ about the bugs but I really want to finish this.
