A Final Fantasy fan-game with a twist...

A seemingly normal life. An average existence. That's all Kumo Atsureki has ever strived for, as the sole guardian of his younger brother at 19. Working as a hired gun with a young man named Levi Raionomoi, his long-time best friend, they work towards a future where they can do what they like rather than working for the highest bidder.

That's about to all come crashing down when their childhood friend Miri Joumaeshin, co-leader of the rebel movement LANDSLIDE, asks them to aid in bombing a Okam Reactor as a favour, something they can't say no to.

Oh, and a casual trip to Tokyo for a...cosplay convention, of course.

Things are about to get very, very messy, as the fragile 'normal' existence becomes a thing of the past and they become the only hope to save the world.

That is, of course, if they can save themselves...

Cosplay Crisis is a complete full-length RPG (stemming upwards of 10 hours in length depending how you play). If issues DO crop up, please check this list of unfixable bugs before submitting a bug report.

-Anything with materia.
-You cannot save on the world map. This is intentional - there is a save point in the terminal on the airship bridge.
-The 'Blasting Zone' animation appears over the Battle Status. I fiddled with it far too much as it is, so I left it.
-Common event skills don't update the battle status straight away (1000 Needles and Shock). I tried to fix this, too, but couldn't fathom a way to fully refresh the battle status through the common event call...so it has been left.
-If you use a Kumo/Levi limit break while critical, the characters won't reappear immediately. I'm not sure why this is, and haven't got a clue how to fix it.

3.2 Changelog

Hi All,

Long time coming since the Anniversary release, but I burnt myself out on it, and ended up rushing out 3.0 due to an arbitrary deadline.

As per gamepage reports, 3.0 suffered from a handful of move route softlocks, which I discovered arose due to the new sprint system added with the 3.0 release. These should all be fixed with 3.2.

Due to these softlocks I doubt anyone got far enough to realise, but as it turns out the game was completely unfinishable in its released state as the Hive/Banora Ruin Facility wasn't functional. It was this section that was worked on last before releasing, and I apologise to any who did reach this point and realised they couldn't progress.

Obviously, this entire section has been revised and is completable in its entirety.

Other changes to the game include:

Replaced some battlebacks and animations (as well as fixed some of them)
Slight EXP and Materia rebalancing (this is not retroactive so if you have current saves, they will not be affected.)
Fixed Bahamut's countdown into Megaflare
Various passability issues, which of course. This is never going to be perfect. But there should be no instances of passability softlocking the game, IDEALLY. If there are any remaining please report them to me ASAP so I can update the game version.
The 'Sustain' Materia can now be obtained and bought from some Materia shops.
(Adjustments were also made to its MP costs but since it wasn't obtainable nobody is gonna know what I did anyway)
More Kupo Nuts have been added to the game, so the Kupo Nut quest should definitely be completable (as I think there are more nuts than rewards). I guess we'll see? (This is the means to obtain the only Ribbon in the game).
The Green Propagator in the Ragnarok now uses a group Slow instead of a group Sleep, hopefully preventing an unfair gameover.
Aio/Seifer's battle graphic during the second encounter with him has been changed to reflect the altered Hive's story events.
Alicia's battle graphic has been changed because she's part of the final boss roster and deserved a little more respect, especially as 3.0 puts her motives a little more front and center.
The Manor in Aetas has been revamped (the new Foyer is in screenshots). If you're saved in the save point inside the Manor, the game will automatically fix your position (it will not do this if you're entering the area for the first time). The manor as a whole should feel more like the FF7 mansion.
Enemy drops have been slightly adjusted, adding new items and increased drops.
Shiva's boss fight has been tweaked to justify her summon spell strength.
The MP for summoning Shiva has been upped from 45 to 65 MP
Characters now level cap at 35, which is more than enough to curbstomp everything in the game. Completion level for myself was around 24-26.
Some general fixes to message box position, though not all of them, so choice boxes will still occasionally clip out of the screen.
Adjusted the state rate of 'Stop' against bosses, as Seal Evil could make a majority of them a cakewalk.

Other general fixes, adjustments, etc, as one would expect.

Major note: YOUR SAVES SHOULD BE COMPATIBLE, , so while you will need to redownload the game, you can just drop your save files in and continue from there.

Hi.

Sorry for the trouble but I just downloaded this game and it gave me an error on startup that said "Unable to find file Graphics/Tiles."

I copied the dll file into the proper folder the readme said to copy it into, I installed all the fonts, and I even installed the RPG Maker XP RTP, but nothing changed.

Could you please help?

Yup! Seems something went amiss with the file upload.

Here

Download and paste this file into the folder and the game should run no problem.

I've fixed the download as well.

Hi, Excellent game really enjoyable. But can I ask what is new in the anniversary download? Is it just bugs fix?

Hiya,

So anniversary download is kinda jank right now (I'm working on a fixed version) but there's a fair amount of new content added. A lot of map overhauls, an entirely new dungeon segment, adjusted (imho upgraded) dialogue in a handful of sections, and revamped boss fights, alongside the major bug fixes.

Sometimes all you need to find the weirdest and most persistent of bugs is to play the game through with a fresh perspective.

Anyways, I just updated the list to clarify that technically the two move event locks are technically hardlocks as they can't be escaped without editing the game files, and I can confirm that the Mt. Fuji Cave passability issue was fixed on my end by setting the terrain tag of the cracked ice tile to 0. Many of these things just seem to be oversights from updated scripts/maps/music and are easily fixable, though I vaguely seem to remember being able to walk into the reactor void on that map back in v2.1 or v2.2 so maybe that one's just one that was never caught?

Anyways, I'll keep an eye out to see if I can spot any more than that. Keep up the good work!

EDIT - Aaaaand I found one!

9. This one's just a funny little sequence break more than anything. If you know how to get the secret character, you can actually get him as soon as you get the Ragnarok. You can even do this despite Levi being 'unavailable' at this stage, which will force Levi into your party, meaning you can have Levi in your party during the Volcanic Tunnels segment. (I don't think this affects anything other than immersion, but it's pretty funny.)
10. The hidden candy shop in Glaciera does not actually seem to work, the shopkeep says nothing and there is no shop window.
11. The dialogue for the Glaciera sidequest says there are 20 enemies to find, when there only appear to be 10.
12. The warpers on the left side of the map in Oak which has the entrance to the hideout are all broken, placing the player 2 tiles above where they should be, which is inside a wall and a softlock.

It's been a while, mostly because I burnt myself out on RMXP grinding to get this release done among other game work. A 3.1 is coming to remedy as many remaining softlocks/hardlocks I can.

As it turns out, it seems RMXP has some sort of internal issue regarding Wait for Move Route and Through that has cropped up as we've moved into the Win10 era. It might be something internally on CC's part, it might not, but pretty much the reason for the obvious softlocks is cutscenes I didn't change suddenly breaking. The Hotel is one, but the Ragnarok is another, and in some cases resolution is as simple as changing the means the character gets to an identical location (ie, move upper right/move up/ turn right vs move right/up/up/turn.) There aren't events in the way either.
I need to give the game a full run through to make sure every scene works. Hopefully, hopefully, once I'm done you'll be able to run through from start to end without a reload.

I also don't think Glaciera's candy shop is meant to be accessible, I'll have to check and delete the teleport because I certainly couldn't find it while playing. I'll make adjustments to anything overtly jarring but it won't be another big overhaul/bug fix like 3.0 was.

Would you believe when I say I have played the game through several times? Sigh.

I’ll take a look at these over the next couple of days and see if I can at least resolve most of the softlocks. Idk what is with the passability in this game, I’ve likely spent over 500 hrs messing with it.

I don’t believe terrain tags should have any kind of passability associated, that said— I’ll double check but all passability has been handled natively. I’m not surprised at music errors though I thought I’d resolved all of them.

But yeah, I’ll take this list and do some fixes.
Love to see the anniversary edition! I've been putting off finishing this game myself for a while now and now have an excuse to do so, but thought I'd bring a few early-game bugs to your attention here real quick, all within the first hour or so in the game:

1. A couple passability issues in Acaridae and the Omniax Reactor. You can run through some parts of the building to the right of the fountain in Acaridae, and run into the void on the map just before the one where Warren waits for you to plant the bomb (though it doesn't seem like either of these can let you get to areas you shouldn't be, the void in the Omniax reactor stops you at the pipe anyways)
2. After the Omniax reactor mission, when playing as only Kumo, if you run into an enemy and that enemy tries to attack, it can cause the game to crash. Seems to be a script issue of some kind, and it's easy to get around by either beating the enemies before they can attack or avoiding them altogether.
3. During the plane sequence when you're playing as Levi, on the map where the elevator is just before the cargo area, if you walk on the right side of the aisle an enemy will pop out to attack you. If you were dashing when you encountered the enemy, the game crashes at the end of the fight as it looks for a "levi_dash" face icon for the rewards screen, which doesn't exist. Easily worked around by manually walking through this area until you fight the enemy, or by avoiding it all together by sticking to the left side of the aisle, but it can be annoying as you have to go through the (relatively short) pre-flight cutscene again when it crashes, and there's no save point on the plane until after the point where this enemy is encountered.
EDIT - All below this point were discovered later, and I'm editing so as to not leave a bunch of double posts.
4: One more at the scene right after arriving at Carnivale. The game crashed looking for a music file, "ff87" or something like that, that did not exist when going through the middle event, but when going through the right one the scene worked just fine. Might have something to do with the fact that I have my game set to FF8 music? Not exactly sure what happened there, but since you have to backtrack after the previous boss fight to save before this scene and can only save directly after otherwise, this ended up being pretty annoying.
5: At the Ghost Circle in Carnivale, there are 2 softlocks. One is at the door to the building, where leaving the building leaves you stuck at the door. The second is at the staircase at the top right, where leaving the room leaves you stuck in the stairs. I think these are both just cases of teleporters leading to the wrong place, can't find a workaround, and unfortunately this leaves both the FF8 print shop and the materia/equipment shop there inaccessible.
EDIT 2 - As of this point I experienced an inescapable hardlock that required me to decrypt the game in order to continue. Because of this I can confirm that the 2 softlocks above were because of misplaced warpers, and the crash at the start of Carnivale is because the middle and left event use the wrong music. Sorry, dev!
6. After Carnivale, when Levi and Kumo enter the hotel room, there is a hardlock that cannot be avoided. Going into the files and deleting the "Wait for Move's Completion" from the event that causes it fixed it, so there may just be something wrong with the move route there that causes it to hang.
7. At Mt. Fuji - Cave, the cracked ice is impassible terrain, which also includes the bottom of the stairs. This is due to the cracked ice having a terrain tag of 4, which I imagine is used elsewhere to determine impassible tiles. Also, it's possible to both clip out of bounds and get softlocked while jumping up or down the mountain, probably due to how the jumping events work and the fact that some of them land you on other jumping events.
8. Hardlock similar to the one after Carnivale happens in the second cutscene in the airship's cockpit (when the full party has boarded the airship, and you're about to gain access to it.) This is due to an event being in Levi's path during one of the moves that isn't properly set to "Through" for this event.

Bugs aside, loving the game and the new touches so far, good work!

What to do here?
Nothing works, I tried searching this whole map and I'm stuck at this screen.
I'm at the very beginning of the game, on the Prelude.

this game is going to be the death of me, i swear.

calling a mulligan.

Please redownload it in about 10-15 minutes. I was in a rush to update a game-breaking bug last night and misplaced the starting position, but I've uploaded the fix now.
I just downloaded the game and when I start a new game I'm in some reddish volcano area with hotsprings and thrust into a fight with Nero (Reno/using pyramid tactic) and promptly die with the game over screen.

EDIT:I used the cellphone option in the menu and added in party members to try to defeat him yet when I kill the Pyramid the ATB gauges stop moving and everyone's just staring at eachother.

Ok well that's bizarre. You've accessed the World Map already by this point.

Could you please check Map001.rxdata is still in the Data folder?

If it is, could you please grab Map162.rxdata and send it to me (upload to your locker here or upload it to something like dropbox, mediafire, etc) and I'll have a look at the event.

This doesn't appear to be a universal bug though, so I'm not entirely sure what's occurred.

If it comes down to it, the last recommendation I have is to move your save data out of the folder, delete and re-extract/install the game, then put your saves back.

EDIT: Actually could you please send me your save file as well so I can check the switch situation?
